You felt proud to be Yoruba because white people sang a Yoruba rendition. Inferiority complex is our biggest problem in Africa.

Well not sure if that was real. I was thrilled one Sunday in my University Parish the choir sang a Yoruba song during mass, I was so happy. Though am not Yoruba and never wish to be in my next life but for the fact that we are all Nigerians and at that point they rep Naija I was happy. Funny enough the only Nigerians in the University choir are Igbos and you need see how excited they were. It reminds how people out here view us Nigerians, they never treat us as different ethnic group but as people of Nigeria, until we look pass tribal lines our problems are far from being over. Merry Xmas!!!!!

you never wanna be a Yoruba? you will be a terrible Yoruba if u had been one. When you try to show others' weakness/fault, you are indirectly showing yours.

You are an Id.iot and you aptly define the word "Mo-ron"! This is not a case of Inferiority Complex. It's a scenario of Respect and utter Admiration. "Oyinbo" People pass us in every Aspect of Human Endeavour. E be like say you never go "Oyinbo" land before. The "Oyinbos" even brought Christianity to Nigeria, so I feel proud to see the "Oyinbos" that I exceedingly respect render a song in My native Nigerian language, despite the bad reputation that your idiotic and senseless Ibo People have brought to this Country and despite the fact that Most "Oyinbos" that I've come across are naturally racist. May be your views would have been different if they had rendered it in Ibo language. Mumu!

Bro l think the proudness is justified. Do you know many tribal languages are spoken in Africa? Nigeria alone has over 30. Why was yoruba chosen among the multitude of African languages?

You just displayed the inferiority complex that africans are known for. You even acknoledged that they're more  superior to  you and your family. I won't argue with you because based on your post it's evidence that even a goat is worth more than you. Keep worshing your masters. You slave bastardo.

hmmm.  I like to highlight Nigerians doing well.  I couldn't care less that Oyinbos are singing the songs.  But that the songs are getting world-wide appeal, regardless of who's singing them - that I like.  Also, the Nigerian music teachers and drummers that are spreading out culture should be commended.  That's my own.  smiley

Okay, I'm looking for more popular songs in Nigerian languages, and will post if I find them.  Meanwhile. . .

More Nigerian Christmas songs.

Re: Watch White Choir Sing Yoruba Carol. by Nobody: 12:12am On Dec 27, 2011
I so much love the Yoruba culture. I once met a Venezuelan at Uni who said he was a Yoruba man even though he was Latino, and I was surprised he understood some words in Yoruba, He said ''mo fe du inu'' , Meaning ''I want to eat so as to make my stomach happy''. Nigerian Yoruba would have said ''mo fe jeun'' but he took it a step further. Maybe it's just a lost Yoruba sentence preserved by their ancestors. I am very happy to be from such a great tribe.

As for the song. Very good performance. I know the Yoruba department at the University of Ife occasionally send some of their lecturers to lecture in American Universities. So they probably had to sing that song to get a good grade in their coursework/Exams.

Guy, you are a Misguided Numbskull! There's a difference between Inferiority Complex and Respect. Besides, your English is bad. You are a disgrace to the Likes of Chinua Achebe and Buchi Emecheta. Check these out, you cocky Bas-tard! Acknowledged, not "Acknoledged";  Superior and not "More Superior", that's tautological, you know; It's evident, and not "It's evidence"; Worshipping and not "worshing". Is there any word like Bastardo? If Niggers like Me could be considered as Goats, then your Father is a Starfish. A Starfish has no Brain! Id.iot! Amukunmeko oshi!

Whilst the other videos may prove to be true renditions. Can't confirm because I haven't got the patience to watch.I can't fathom how anybody can watch the first video on this thread & believe they were actually singing a song in yoruba.Even the choir master's hand is not in sync with the rendition let alone the lips of the choristers. But hey, what do I know

I guess it's because you don't really understand yoruba, I can confirm the they were actually singing the song, there was a slight delay for about a second between the audio and the video, maybe due to the recording or editing. I'm sure you've seen videos with such delays before

I don't understand. Why are you guys fighting? I think is a good thing them white is singing in Nigeria language. You know, they are always trying to put us down until they meet one or two blacks guys that are better than then.

We can never be respected until we put our house together. Our government has important role. China, brazil and indian are gaining their respect now. If our country has better economy and measurable technology, we had gain their respect otherwise they see black as failure even wen you see yourself as great!

Use your brain. It has nothing to do with white people. People would still be proud if a Senegalese/Wolof choir sings in perfect Yoruba.

Exactly.  You will often come across videos on YouTube that have that skip - where the audio isn't perfectly aligned with the visual images.

Anyway, this is nice too.  Talking Drums in harmony.  Lovely!

If you don't like the fact that the Choir in the first link are singing in Yoruba, that's your problem, but trying to dispute the fact that the lips and

demonstrations of the Choir master synced understandably with the song is needless, suffice to say you can't expect him to lead the song the

exact way a born Yoruba would, even the keys going off shows that they are not Nigerians or Yoruba. By the way,the people that are happy about

the choir singing in Yoruba can't to be said to be having inferiority complex,i.e if you really know what a complex entails and you're not just

spewing garbage. Its like saying that you feel inferior when you accept that no African country can be called "Developed". Its just a fact, and

not a sentiment. Britons,Americans, russians.etc (or whites as some may put it) singing in any Nigerian language is something positive, and its

not as common as some of y'all want to make it sound. If you're trying to spite those who are getting excited about this,It simply means you're

jealous(which is stupid if you're from Nigeria, and not Gabon),a tribalistic "Carnero" and 've got a weak insight. undecided

Some people were bathed with the curse of tribalism on the day they were christened! Otherwise, you can see that the only thing that really upsets you is the songs featured have a different language than your tribe! Nothing can be done to save most tribalists here but worse is they poison their young ones with their bile before they keel over and die a miserable death they so deserve!

Am sure you are not from the Yoruba tribe, if you where u won’t talk lik that. For the Yoruba’s in the house, This shows that our language is accepted and we are recognize by the rest of the world. i.e. if white can travel over to Africa and study our language and tradition., den all we need to do is unite.

@agent zakky
No one is conning everybody all you need to do is Google it and you will see more of the white doin more of African tins. e.g Osun Oshogbo festival, making user of the talking drum. Just ask Google and you shall see the ans.

Godspeed

there is no big deal, we sign songs from SA, Congo DR etc. but I must give it to them really. It was really nice. it comes with practise and of cause they could have listened to the song. And maybe a native speaker of the language could be at hand to teach them as well. Good we are selling our brand across, grin
