Excessive jogging can cause the body to lose lean muscle, thereby reducing the metabolic rate (lowering the body's capacity to burn calories) making it more difficult to lose body fat. Your body also gets weak and more susceptible to injuries when you lose muscle.
However, if you love running, instead of jogging for hours everyday in order to lose weight, you can do some sprinting for few minutes say 12-20 minutes (with some seconds of rest after each sprint to allow your body to recover) for about 3 days a week.
Apart from the fact that you burn more calories when you sprint than when you jog, sprinting has the capacity to increase your metabolic rate for up to two days after the workout (which means that your body continues to burn high amount of calories for days after the workout is over even when you sleep). This saves you time as it only take a few minutes and you don't have to do it everyday.
NB Make sure you consult your doctor before you start any exercise including sprinting.
