The Inspector general of Police Mr. Hafiz Ringim has tendered his resignation letter and it is with immediate effect. Also resigning are Six DIG's .

The new Inspector General of police is former commissioner of police Lagos state, AIG M.D Abubakar and his appointment is with immediate effect.
His resignation may not be unconnected with the escape of Mr. Kabir Sokoto the alleged mastermind of the Christmas day suicide bomb blast at the St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Madalla, Niger State from police custody. The IG was issued a query asking him to explain the escape of the suspect who as at now has not been found.
