A lot of people without any knowledge of how International Geo-Politics operate, are commenting on this kind of issue? WHY?

The issue here goes far beyond "Human Rights or Over-Stay of President Assad".

Before you comment, l want you to think about these:

*What does the toppling of a Pro-Iranian, Pro-Palestinian, Anti-Israel, Assad Regime, TRANSLATES TO, FOR ISRAEL in particular and the West in general?
*What does it translate to, for the Palestinian People?
*What does it translates to, for Hamas who is fighting for the liberation of Palestinian people, from Israeli apartheid clutches?
*What does it translate to, for the REGIONAL BALANCE OF POWER in the Middle East where only Israel has a monopoly of Nuclear weapons, Iran who is its arch enemy is trying to build one (in the long run) and the Western countries and Israel are bent on making a "Muslim Country" NOT TO posses a challenging role to Israeli dominance and arrogance?
*What does it translate to, in terms of "global power influence and power projection" for the "Easter Bloc" like China and Russia?

These are the MAIN issues

The issue of Assad Army killing CIVILIANS is very easy to stop:
Tell all civilians NOT TO CARRY WEAPONS OR ATTACK THE ARMY.
Protest PEACEFULLY.
Simples!

If Assad now kills them, it will be obvious he has to answer for that.

It is part of any Governments duty to counter any security threat (Like Govt killing Boko Haram members, why is the U.N, U.S and EUROPE not complaining?) to the nation it governs. No nation folds its arms and watch "armed insurrection" take over.
How you now interpret such threat depends on WHICH LINE OF THE DIVIDE YOU ARE!

@Gerrard59:
There are so many issues you have raised above, which l will honestly love to respond to;

but l must admit that l am having trouble responding to discuss which are not or dont appear to BE CIVIL!
I am shying away from insulting discussions, in any form and by this your comment above:

Mr backpage ISRAEL HAS THE SINGULAR RIGHT TO EXIST AS A NATION

Xpect u r a moslem,yu will think otherwise.

I have a strong feeling ypurs might tend towards that
oju to'ma bani t'ale, ko n'taro sepin; literally translated as "Eyes that would serve one to an old age does not start producing pus, in early childhood"!

But ofcourse, l may be wrong and l am still open for correction on that.

I was just speaking who said he believes everything happening in Syria - Guess what? Because he heard it on CNN.

I have heard so many Nigerians arguing from the same angle.

People here do not really understand international politics and the West's pathological bias and purely self-interest based view of everything in this world.

Idiots here keep repeating the jagon "Killing civilians, women and children and so on"

The self serving West (that idiotic clown Obama sef) used "humanitarian intervention" and other gimmicks to destroy Gadaffi (a catastrophy to any discerning African) right in front of our korokoro eyes.

Perhaps Gerrard, valarious and their likes are basing their judgement on what they hear on CNN

Technically Libya just got their independent from Gaddafi less than 6months ago, and they will struggle for sometimes before the dust settles, how is Nigeria that got her independent since 1960? better than Libya?

The West is losing relevance by the day.

After the debacle in Iraq and Libya; invading countries by false pretences and reducing them back to the Stone Age, Russia and China are not taking the piss with these lying hypocrites.

If I were the West, I would concentrate on rebuilding their devastated economies instead of this bloodthirsty adventures and blatant oil grabs.

For you to have a "Balanced View" of Geo-Politics, you need to get ur news from "Various opposing Sources" and then form your own balanced opinion!
CNN, Russian TV, Aljazeera, China News, BBC, France24, CNN, Press TV (Iran), e.t.c.

Always bear in mind that these News outfits (especially the Pro-West ones) use News (information) as a tool of manipulation of the gullible public, more-so now that they can repeat it ALL DAY AND NIGHT (24x7) till it gets stuck in your subconscious!

@mickey jag:
If I were the West, I would concentrate on rebuilding their devastated economies instead of this bloodthirsty adventures and blatant oil grabs.
Is there a better way to improve their own economy that to manufacture weapons of destruction (while telling others not to do same), create conflicts out of mere civil protests, sell their weapons to the 'protesters' (turning them to insurgents/mercenaries), after the regime change, charge the "new rulers" for the cost of the weapons (using the host's crude oil to pay for it ten fold!) while hiding and wraping everything inside "humanitarian assistance"? grin wink

Its a win-win situation for the west! Thats what their economy thrives on and they would simply move-on to the next theater of war

Once again, well done to Russia and China for standing up to the bullying West.

The lesson was well and truly learned due to the Libya war crimes: America and the UK are not to be trusted. They are still playing the Great Game. The Russian bear has woken up, and so has the Chinese panda (also a bear). Those two countries won't be lectured by thieving oil-thirsty scum any longer.

Let is not be forgotten that Russia simply asked for the resolution to forbid foreign military intervention and the Western powers stated that was "unacceptable". Why not commit it to paper then?

It's because that is what they are planning in the background.

Russia and China should trap  the wicked trio ( Uk, USA and France) one day by allowing Nato military actions against  a country. Once the resolution is passed and Nato troops are there on the ground , at least  1 million chinese and Russian troops move in. This will be a big humiliation to these three bully countries. They would be forced  out like wet cats. After that cold bath one can bet modesty will be a sacro -saint value at the United Nations.

Russia and China vetoed resolution to take action against Syria not just because Assad is completely clean but Western resolution and intervention never bring anything good but evil. History tells us! If Assad fall, it will be a blow to Russia and Iran and weaken their powers in the region. All the government against the western countries nowadays are not doing it just because they want it that way but the plan to put an end to western intervention and agression around the globe are currently underway. The world has suffered so much from the hand of the WEST for more than 400 hundred years and they(WEST) know that one day nemesis will catch upon them. War is coming soon and it might involve Russia and China, this is not Hollywood movies but reality. Syria is just a side game plan, the final destination is to destroy Iran and change the regime thereby taking control of Iranians vast oil and gas reserves and control the Chinese energy security. Because this year is an election year in America, Obama said yesterday that attacking Iran will be too risky and there is news all over CNN and BBC of job creation in U.S.A.~~~~~the main goal is to win the re-election and release the final game plan to execute the "Project for the New American Century, Strategic, Plans and Defenses". The plan is to strenghten America superpower and energy security for the next 100years by invading nations then set them back to the stone age. Libya has now been bombed back to 40years back but the stupid Libyans don't know yet until the real suffering started. Libya oil will be used to fill the lost oil from Iran when the time comes that is why they have to take Ghadaffi out. Some people here doesn't read about world history before jumping into conclusion but what I know is that the WEST will never back down and the IRANIANS also has crossed point of rubicon so we should all brace up for possible World War III if it involves China and Russia because that is all out Nuclear War. A total amargedom and final doomsday that will reduce world population and redesign the existence of humanity. Putin is coming in March to seek re-election of Russian Presidency, his ideology is totally anti-WEST and said in one of his manisfesto that he is coming to bring back the old Soviet Union.

Justwise=Justbiased. A western apologist who wouldn't mind if the union Jack becomes Nigerian flag again. People like you marvel me. What makes you think the decision of Western nations and the US is in the best interest of the world. When the Rwandans were murdering themselves in one of the biggest genocides ever, why did they watch and look? When Biafra was fighting for seccession, why did they arm the Nigerian army and frustrate the Biafrans. Why didn't they speak against apartheid until the late 80s/early 90s? What ever happened to their venture in Somalia which is presently a failed state embarassed with poverty and famine. When you come to realise that the so called Western World powers act only in their interest maybe that's when you might be deserving of the title you bestow on yourself for being "justwise", which you aren't as of present.

The Syrian situation is a bigger scenario. Syria is gradually on the edge of Arab civil war. The regime is being supported by the Iranians as it's a Shia-muslim government in charge. The opposition is likewise being supported by Qarar, UAE, Saudi, etc which are Sunni muslim nations. The so-called powers invovled want to use Syria as a groundbase for Sunni/Shia war, a place which has been relatively peaceful under Bashar Al-Assad. The Free Syrain Army is being secretly armed by Turkey and Qatar. So tell me, do you want the government forces to give in so easily to a foreign-sponsored militia.

Russia and China made a great choice. They've simply proved to be more humane and non-hypocritical than the hypocritical Western nations.

You keep letting yourself down as you rant -on, Russia and China decision is a business one, Russia supplies weapons to Syrian govt so they are protecting their interest, if you think that Russia and China vetoed it because they give a monkey about Syrian people then you need to get your head checked.

Why do you expect the west to go around the world protecting every living soul being murdered by their own govt? When they do people like you cry your eyes out and when they don't you rant-on.

I really really hope that the west stay far away from Syria, let them kill themselves and Russia and China will feel the heat when the time comes, they will lose all their business interest when that govt is gone. . . which will happen with or without the west.

Can we at least use the same "yardstick/analogy" you used to come to "the conclusion above", for (and on) the other side of the argument?

It will read thus: You keep letting yourself down as you rant -on, Russia and China America, Nato/France and Britain's decision is a business one, Russia U.S.A and NATO supplies weapons to Syrian govt THE FREE SYRIAN REBELS so they are protecting their interest, if you think that Russia and China vetoed it USA and NATO voted in favor because they give a monkey about Syrian people then you need to get your head checked.

You see, things are very very simple if we decide to be OBJECTIVE! wink wink

BTW: Why are they (America and NATO) not putting a resolution on Saudi Arabia who have been a long time sponsor of Terrorism worldwide?
From the 9/11 bombers where about 90% of them are Saudi Citizens, (But Iraq was attacked instead), to Al Queida H/Q, to even our own local Boko Harams who have confessed of going to receive training, finance and technical support from Al Queida in Saudi Arabia during this last lesser Haaj, every terrorist act and evil seems to spring from those Saudi monarchs but then, as long as they feed America with cheap oil and reain a stooge for American interest over other Muslim Nations, ALL IS WELL! wink grin
