In most countries, there is an inverse relationship between stock market performance and the interest rates for bonds & treasury bills. When one rises, the other falls. When one falls, the other rises.

i WENT TO FIRST BANK TO PAY FOR NTB BUT THE BANK STAFF ADVISED ME TO GO FOR FIXED DEPOSIT AT 11% WHICH I DID. THANK GOD I DID BECAUSE NTB RATES ARE NOW DISAPPOINTING.

By the time you adjust for with holding tax and for the fact that you cannot get your interest upfront; Tbills still make more sence to me!
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Desanta(m): 3:35pm On Feb 21, 2013
AT THE CURRENT RATE OF 9.2% FOR 90 DAYS, THE ACTUAL YIELD IS 10.1%. A FIXED DEPOSIT OF 11% WITH A 10% WITHHOLDING TAX GIVES YOU A YIELD OF 9.9%. SO YOU ARE VERY CORRECT. BUT ANY FURTHER DROP WILL REVERSE THE SITUATION AND MAKE FIXED DEPOSIT MORE REWARDING.

I am interested in the bond offers, but i currently only have N10k in my account. Anyone willing to do partnership?
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Seun(m): 12:50pm On Feb 26, 2013
@castrokins: You can buy bonds with just 10k, though your money will be tied down for at least 3 years.

Good job guys! I just stumbled upon this thread; just what I've been looking for!
Just a quick question plss...... If I go for the 91-day bid, can I get to 'roll-over' my investment after the 91 days if I so desire, just as the case is for fixed deposit?
Thanks..

Good day, please I'm a total novice about investment maybe cos of my field of profession that I so much indulge into it. I would need some answers to some "funny question" I will be asking you know.
(1)You have mentioned "bond" most times, pls what's the meaning?
(2)If I don't want to go through banks to buy TBill, which other houses can I go to?
(3)What's the diff btw stock exchange, shares and TBill?
(4)Can I invest in another country's TBill,if yes,how?
(5)Someone asked that can he invest in foreign, not INDIVIDUAL FUNDS, not MUTUAL FUNDS, or you might profer them, but INDEX FUNDS online. Especially like S and P 500. What does he mean and the meaning of the words I capital(ed)?

Please take time, seriously I'm ashamed of myself for not knowing anything about investment. Kindly give me the guy's email or number that does it for you.

Thanks in anticipation.

sellydion: If stock market spiral down rate on treasury bill goes up, if stock market spiral up rate on treasury bill goes down. It has inverse relationship based on investors emotion. It will always be a good market for risk averters like me.

Just like the relationship between US Dollars and Gold.

You can give your Banker a standing order to roll-over your investment at the expiration of the 91 days, while the interest
is calculated and paid direcly into your account upfront.

Thanks so much for the responses..

So, when's the next bid date and what's the current interest rates? I'm currently getting 8.75% on fixed deposit @ Stanbic IBTC; going by the rate at which the Tbill is dropping, do you guys think it's worth switching over? smiley
