My guys ever since I stumbled on TBills, from NL and especially from you guys It has been a kind of pay off for all the internet and other responsibilities one has to meet up with. However I want to say that TBills is something you wait on. What other business investment can one do that is lucrative and time bound while one awaits TBill?

Chai, I missed out, by the time I found out the bidding was today, first bank said they have stopped collecting bids.

I would have failed sha, planned to bid for 8%. but as soon as the budget is signed the 91 days will be up to 10%.

I will just do 30days fixed deposit with gtb and wait.

There will be excess money in circulation, which leads to inflation. So the CBN has to make the rates attractive for people to bring out their money and they take it out of circulation.

It has already started even though the budget has not been signed but u can see its going up already.

Please house,
when you decide not to rollover your investment, is your money paid into your account on the day of maturity or on the next day after maturity?

I salute all the great minds in this section, it's been blessing following this tread. Please forgive me for asking question outside what the tread is meant for. My question is "Why is Bond 2020 rate higher than that of 2025,2030 and others" . I think the longer the tenor the higher should the rate be but it seems different . Please help someone that wants to learn. Thanks to all @feelamong and other guru's please help a brother

I think one of the reason is the market rate when the bond is first launched. Also looking at the economy, the inflation rate at the time the bond is being flown out and possible rate change during the tenure of the bond.
How important the money is to the government at the time I think can also affect the rate. As the higher the rate the more bids you get.
This is just my thinking and might be far from the answer.
Waiting to learn from others

Do not confuse Coupon rate with Yield.

At the point of issuance, the Yield is the Coupon rate...This is essentially the prevailing rate in the country then based on the realitities on ground then, (Inflation, Interest rates, Liquidity in the money market)

However shortly after issue, the Bond is now left to the ups and downs of the economy based on the factors earlier mentioned..

Recall that this same FGN Bond 2020 (15.54%) was trading at 16% around September last year when JP Morgan left and it droped to as low as 10.20% sometime early this year....

Interest is par annum. so your interest is exactly 8.45%. The amount you earned par annum should have been N25,360. But since it was for 182 days which is half a year, the amount was divided by 2 to arrive at N12,680.

Good evening. I did T Bills on March 16 and got 7.6% pa for 182 days. Meanwhile, a smaller amount that I did this week gave me 8.5% pa for the same 182 days.

With the way rates are going up now and the likelihood of it going much higher after the budget is signed into law, is it reasonable to liquidate my initial Tbills investment now and reinvest later to earn a higher interest?

Business is about speculations and decisions. Just know that because you have taken your discounted interest already, you cannot get your full principal amount since you are not holding your instrument to maturity. However if rates are going up and you liquidate to reinvest, you might be making more dough depending on the margin of interest. Definitely rates will keep going higher from now.

All thanks to the financial gurus in this thread. Its been a while I've been following this thread- its quite informative. I'd staged with UBA Fix Deposit for almost one year but since I learnt about T-bill, its now boring to me.
Please when its the next auction?
Since FBN is more preferable with the best yield, can I buy it via them without an account there??
Can I give a start with 250k via FBN

cc; anyone who can help me out.
