Reasons Why Students Fail Waec And Utme/jamb by Darius141: 8:37am On Feb 29, 2012
Proper scrutiny has revealed that the current failures in both WAEC and JAMB can be attributed to the following reasons:
 Inability of class teachers to teach well and cover their syllabus
 Maltreatment given to students in their various school, which makes them pay less attention to their teachers
 The type of school attended by students
 Students engaging on all sorts of life style, simply because of pleasure.(juvenile delinquency), and forgetting to read extensively

Now ask yourself as a student, where I fit in into the following reasons. The earlier you give an answer to yourself the better you shall do in the oncoming exams.
This is brought to you by WAEC BOARD in collaboration with UTME/JAMB BOARD.

For Utme, that time 3hrs 30mins doesn't favor science students doing 3 calculation subject(maths, physics and chemistry) without the use of calculator.

And also spending all their time on Facebook and NairaLand.

There are many factors, these factors can be broadly classify into
1. Economic
2. Environmental
3. Political
4. Social
All the above affects student performance one way or the other, overall individual performance still count, some student dont even know what they want and how to go about it.

I couldnt agree more. a young person who has a facebook, twitter, 2go, watsapp, nimbuzz, myspace, mozart, nairaland, BBM acct cant be expected to pay enough attention to his books to pass JAMB and WAEC. Also the knowledge that they can simply pay money and get a good result hinders them from reading. And this is killing our educational system.

But i thot this question had already been answered? Dame Patience as first lady of Nigeria is the sole reason why kids dont pass exams anymore. grin grin grin #Jst Kidding!

The board also contributes to the failure of students. They should be bringing in security camera into examination halls. And not bluntly failing people in the name of exammination malpractice performed by one or two people. Some candidate are being failed not because they partook in examination malpractice but because they were suspectep by the board.

The reason students fail these exams is simple. They do not study. The go into the exam hall hoping that expo will flow.

Lack of quality teachers. Imagine a teacher that was assisted one way or the other from primary school to the university, a teacher that lacked self confidence, even in the teacher training, he was helped to pass. Now, tell me, what is he going to teach the student?
This thing never stops, it goes on. This same student will eventually become a teacher in the future, he will be teaching them what he has been taught by the fake teacher.
The corruption will move to the leadership level, producing corrupt politicians.
What we need now is training and retraining of teachers at all levels, this way, there will be an improvement in the quality of education in the country. God bless you. God2man.

My 10 Kobo: I think 50% of the problem is caused by most of the schools (especially public schools and poor low-grade Private Schools) not completing the syllabus and most of the schools presenting carry-go candidates.

Most of the students now a days, as part of the corruption prevalent in the society are lazy and expect to find short cut.

SOLUTION
Apart from a major overhaul of our school system, I think promotions should only be by merit, so that only qualified candidates would sit for WAEC and UTME.
