Student of the Ondo State School of Nursing in Akure, yesterday said they would not resume lectures until Governor Olusegun Mimiko rehabilitates their hostels.

Our correspondent who visited the hostels said, the students refused to come out from their rooms, alleging that the state government has neglected their institution. They lamented that they have been living in congested rooms for the past six years.

The school principal, Mrs. Oyekanbi Fatile refused to speak to the press on the matter, saying there was peace in the school. But the students who took newsmen around their hostels, complained about their poor state.

A 200 level student (name withheld) said due to the terrible state of the hostels, some students sometimes pass the night in their classrooms.

“The hostels are dilapidated and this forced us to contribute money to re-paint them. It is sad that we are suffering despite the huge money we pay. For instance, fresh students pay N123, 000 while old students pay N24, 000.”

Our governor cannot be spending over N2billion on mega schools for primary pupils, when our hostels are in this condition,” the student said.

They better occupy the governor's residence if they want any action on their demand, those illiterate leaders we have around cannot understand what is the good meaning of school of nursing. undecided

Funny how it is that dere rooms are nothing to write home about, yet they refused to come out of it to voice their concerns.I wud av expected dem to take to govt house in protest.D day we learn to assert our rights, dats wen we wud turn a corner in nigeria;but as long as we allow politicians to dribble us while eating our mony, policemen to oppress us& all manners of oppression heaped on us while we do our legitimate duty, den it will b biz as usual& we continue our downward slide

Why are they going right to the government. Why not camp out at the Principal abi vice chancellors office or house. Why not start there? Was money not allocated to the school by the state. Have they demanded that they see what their schools allocation was used for. Everybody jumps right to the government because that is what everyone else is doing. Why not light a fire publicly under the people that were appointed to run the school. Na the government go come make sure say your toilet dey work.
