There are few details, but images posted this week to a Nairaland website forum starkly illustrate a story about a giant manta being hauled aboard an oil-rig servicing ship after becoming entangled in its anchor line in the South Atlantic. The unusual catch off Nigeria's Bonny Island involves one of the largest and most docile marine species. Giant mantas, which are found in temperate regions around the planet, can measure nearly 30 feet across and weigh more than a ton.

A few years ago, we had an arguement right here on N/L about whether Nairaland could be cited as a source of monitored news by other news agencies. That arguement was hot, substantial, and even degenerated to the usual personal and tribal name calling, but today, those of us who believed that N/L is indeed a news source where latest news could be monitored feel very good about this Yahoo citation.

I'm sure yahoo didn't allude that the story is recent so i see no reason behind some comments like 'they are making is look like its a recent happening'. In contrast, the article starts with 'there are fewer details' and 'images posted this week'.
If it qualifies as "choice content for journalistic treatment", it is indeed newsworthy

Nairaland itself is not much of an original source. Most of the stuff posted here are copyrighted stuff. So talking about copyright infringememt is funny. If you go down that route, NL will be gone in 2 days. Nairaland for me is like a quick access site. Instead of going round looking for stuff about Naija, you just hit NL front page.
