The signs are ominous for Hertha Berlin as they prepare to face Bayern Munich tomorrow, but their coach Otto Rehhagel remains optimistic that his side can pick up some much-needed points in the capital.

Berlin were beaten 7-0 in the reverse fixture last year while Bayern have put seven past both Hoffenheim and Basel over the past week.

That does not mean Berlin will necessarily be lambs to the slaughter again tomorrow, however.

"Points are up for grabs even against Bayern, and we need them,'' said their coach Otto Rehhagel, who, with 18 victories over Bayern over the course of his coaching career, has the best success rate against the Bavarians of any coach.

"We cannot afford any slip-ups or to get stage fright, though, or we have no chance.''

Berlin have won only once in 2012, losing their other eight matches, but Bayern have yet to win on their travels since the turn of the year.

Rehhagel is not paying too much attention of the statistics, though, and is instead concentrating on what he has seen from Bayern over the past few days.

"Everybody has seen what condition Bayern are currently in,'' he said at a press conference. "We are all going to have to exceed ourselves and then maybe we have a slight chance.

"We need courage, passion and enthusiasm. If we are caught like rabbits in the headlights, then we have no chance.''

The 73-year-old coach has a trio of former Bayern players in his side with Andreas Ottl, Thomas Kraft and Christian Lell all available, but Levan Kobiashvili is suspended.

Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes was absent from training today due to the flu, but he will not have needed to say much to his players other than to carry on the way they have been doing over the past seven days.

However, chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge warned not to take anything for granted.

"Berlin need every point they can get in their relegation battle and they will play that way in a sold-out Olympiastadion,'' he said on his club's website.

"It is going to be important that we take the momentum with us and get three points.

"I would be happy enough even with a 1-0. We cannot sit back and relax. If we still want to have a chance of winning the league, then we have got to win in Berlin.''

Fortunately for Heynckes, none of his players have been infected with the flu virus, enabling him to pick his strongest side, if he himself makes it to the capital.

He will be spending the night in Munich and travelling north before tomorrow's game, should he be fit enough, otherwise his assistant coach Hermann Gerland will call the shots.
