JAMB Scams 1.5 Million Nigerians Over 2 Novels by Wilfredng: 4:46pm On Mar 24, 2012
The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board-JAMB in her position as the sole body legally responsible for conducting the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination in Nigeria ought to be a trusted name among not only the students but every household.

It is a famous Board, occupying a central position in the country’s educational sector. But sometimes, it picks up a badge of notoriety like most Nigerian public institutions. Last year JAMB promised to provide all candidates with writing materials, but not all students got it. As if there is room for improvement, we (Nigerians) forgave them. This year again, they have done the worse! Surprised? Then read on.

The JAMB introduced into their syllable two different novels, by names: The Potter‘s Wheel and The Successors. No doubt, things are hard generally in the country, especially since this first quarter of the year but that did not dampen the zeal of parents and guardians to ensure their wards participated in the exam. So they all had to get these two books and mandate their children to read them. At last, JAMB did not ask not even a question from these books today, what a scam!

Over here , we set exams for people to fail. In fact, we deliberately place booby-traps and landmines to make the candidates fail. In the Western world, they set exams for people to pass. No examination body in the United States would deliberately deceive its candidates in the manner that JAMB has just scammed a whole nation. That exam body would be sued into oblivion.

JAMB 2012 exam 300x225 Aftermath: JAMB scams 1.5 Million Nigerian students again!I have heard a few parents complain about the inability of their wards, particularly the science students, to finish their papers. Again, this is Nigeria . It will remain at the level of complaints and murmur. Nobody would dare cut through the ice of subservience and sue the Board for this brazen act of mischief.

Honestly what happened on today is a national scam and if the authorities at JAMB have any sense of responsibility, they should apologize to Nigerians or better still, cancel the exam. They should also offer a few explanations why they included these books in their syllables and failed to test the students based on them.

But come to think of it, what JAMB did is not new. It is a small verse in a lengthy chapter of injustices visited on Nigerians by a skewed system that feasts on the poor to fatten the rich. There must have been a special agreement between the authors of these books and JAMB to fatten the pockets of both parties.
