ECOWAS Suspends Mali & Demands Restoration Of Democratic Rule by free2ryhme: 11:34am On Mar 28, 2012
The ECOWAS Heads of States, on Tuesday in Abidjan, suspended Mali and demanded for the immediate restoration of democratic rule in the country.
The regional economic bloc had also mandated the Heads of Government of Cote d’Ivoire, Liberia, Benin, Niger Republic and Burkina Faso to visit the country within the next 48 hours to press on the coup leaders that it would not tolerate coups in the region.
The leaders, in an extra-ordinary meeting, said it wants to send a message that it would have zero tolerance for coups in West Africa.
In a communiqué, the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Kadre Ouedraogo, however, ruled out the immediate deployment of peace keepers to restore democracy in the country.
The Chairman of ECOWAS, President Alassane Ouattara of Cote d’Ivoire, had told newsmen after the meeting that Mali had sustained democracy for more than 20 years, with a virile economy.
The News Agency of Nigeria recalls that military junta in Mali had on March 21, ousted President Ahmadu Toure less than seven weeks to the country's presidential election.

These bloody civilians are shouting democracy even when there is no rule of law in their countries. The level of looting by the politicians and the level of underdevelopment in these countries make a military coup a necesity. These politicians are even more military in the way they break the rule of law without baiting an eyelid. What is democratic in these goddamn countries when they suppress opposition with state apparatus? Abeg, they should shut their corrupt mouths and purge themselves of corruption before anything else.

Give me the MILITARY any day than ANY civilian rogue regime in ANY part of Africa.
Especially those countries like still wiping their azzzes on the bare floor or bushes after crapping all over themselves!

No water. . .no electricity!

How many countries in ECOWAS are practicing true democracy?
Watching TV yesterday,I could have sworn I saw the guy from Burkina Faso-the one that killed Thomas Sankara sitting on the ECOWAS high table and endorsing this communique.
It would be very funny if not for the fact that most of the ECOWAS leaders have their hands covered in BLOOD.
Lots of them shot their way to power and then organised and rigged sham elections.
More like pot calling a kettle black.
I bet the khakhi boys in Mali will Ignore ECOWAS,like the whole world usually does!

God Bless you my brother, with how the world is today,a coup wouldn't be necessary or maybe even possible if these wayward, corrupt, stealing fools & so- called politicians/"civilians"/"leaders" were leading the country rightly & with direction. The military in that country specifically stated in their official statement that they weren't against democracy but the weakness of their president in combating terrorism in the country which had led to the death of several innocent people & also the trademark corruption we've all come to know these stupid "leaders" for necessitated the coup & once they were able to curb the rebellion & terrorist attacks by the tuaregs & lives & properties were safe & peace was once again guaranteed, they'd restore the constitution. Bottom line of everything is THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN NO NEED FOR A COUP IF NOT FOR ALL THESE PEOPLE'S GROSS CORRUPTION LEVEL.

Exactly, democracy does not exist and we're not obliged to impose this concept in our land actually, and the worst is that the same who claim to be "democratic" came on power in very strange way ( electoral hold up, coup, murder together with westerners and many more) what a joke!

I foresee a junta in the foregoing days of this country. The rise of a few junior military officers to topple power and reinstate a new govt system.

We are too quick to make comments without carefully reading games before us.

Nigeria is worse than Mali as at today. The Boko boys has taken over the North. There is hardly a day that passes without an evil news from that corner of this country. our politicians are dancing naked without shame openly in the market square. Millions are been looted per seconds. Election rigging and manipulation has come to stay. The judiciary are been manipulated here and there. Let me stop here for now.

The questions are;
Do you think Northern barrack boys wouldn`t use all these as an excuse to seize power?
Is Nigeria truly immune to a coup?
What structures do we have to prevent a coup?

Abeg make I stop here.

Things just don't happen, they are caused. For the military to take over power in Mali shows the level of insecurity, corruption, bloodshed, poverty, etc.
This is not far fetched in other useless African countries that feel that coup is impossible. Hence the coup is bloodless or so, it is a welcomed movement for the people of Mali. Nigeria should watch it........

another african that believe in the lie that the worse civilian rule is better that the best military rule. Both military men and politicians in africa gain power thru illegal means. Or election rigging is better than coup I suppose?

What is the impact of democratic govt in west Africa, what happen to our Economy? let there b changes in the governance.
Nigeria should expect something of that nature anytime for now because we tire of this democratic govt that cannot impact changes since exemption. let d ECOWAS KEEP SHOT UP THERE MOUTH.

The issue is that many African countries think that democracy= good economic health and the solution while it's complety wrong, and not automatic! sure it can help if your domestic affairs are stable but please, Greece is a "democracy" and the term comes from their language ( DEMOS= power, CRATOS= People) but look at what happens to them

African should try to look for their own way to developp by taking in account their social realities and culture, or else this so called gvt will always be a disgrace, even in Senegal!! don't think it will be easy cause their economy are complety down even with "democracy" regime
Re: ECOWAS Suspends Mali & Demands Restoration Of Democratic Rule by ahumbe(m): 3:18pm On Mar 28, 2012
What we have in Nigeria now is not different from a military junta. For all I know, democracy is not just about words, but the actual implementation of all the democratic principles.
Nigeria is not different from Mali now, and Nigerians should not condemn the Malians for their actions.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERNCE BETWEEN A MITILARY COUP AND ELECTORAL FRAUD.rigging of elections is worst than any military coup because the end product is a civilian dictator.A dictator is a dictator weather or not you are civilian or a military man.so will all the civilian dictators that came to power through the rigging of elections quit condemning their fellow military dictators that came to power through a coup. angry

Mali should restore democratic rule. Fine and better, good and nice said by their president and chairman and co. But failing to sanitize the so called democracy and their agents. It's democracy not worst to military rule? They want to creeple every body with their demonic democracy, democracy with the highest corruption and evil vises. Look at the bulk of the house busy, fatigue, borde and idle is out at dinner or on the terrace or on the smoking room, its members will come to vote if required but will know no more of the debat, rather than the newspaper readers who will glance at it linguidly over the array of unintelligeable figure and obsecure technicalities. Let them allow the people to put their country in other. Mali should restore democratic rule. Fine and better, good and nice said by their president and chairman and co.
