If they're tactically naive, then thats soley on the manager who chose to play 2 man midfield against Barca's 3....

But even then, that game could have easily ended 3-3. Dzeko had a couple of chances includng that free header straight Ter Stegen. Demichelis too had another free header straight at the keeper. City actually did well, and to be honest were very unlucky to lose the way they did.
City were unlucky to lose the way they did? Your conclusions cannot be more removed from reality! Even in the second half they seemingly improved, we still enjoyed alot of chances including some bizarre penalty miss. First half performance alone should have earned us 4 goals instead of 2 if not for profligate finishing from our players. Alves even struck d woodwork with a delightful chip! grin

Silva even admitted they were lucky not to lose with more embarrassing figure. I know you Chelsea fans are hurting because of the seemingly effortless way we dispatched City in their backyard, when you guyz would only claw back to your penalty area and defend away a boring 1-1 draw. grin You guyz must begin to admit that Barca and Messi are back to real business. If we catch una napping like City did yesterday, O.Y.O is your case!

TreQuartista:

Na dian 2nd half wuruwuru dey wow you. Whereas, the rubbish they served in the first half is enough to make dem lose 5 matches. They were that bad.

They are not getting any plaudit from me. They were horrendous. angry
They just can't match Barca playing the way they did. Barcelona are the very best when it comes to picking spaces and of course, creating space. Chelsea are successful against Barca because they never come to play. But this particular Chelsea are not all that successful again in a raw and determined defending. PSG exposed una like tomorrow no dey! angry

You obviously lack comprehension skills.
I already admittedthat only 2 City players would make that Barca 1st team.

You can't use the same criteria to judge Barca and City's performance. That Barcelona team even in its obvious decline, is still in top 3 teams in the world; up there with Madrid and Bayern.

Abi do you honestly think it's a disgrace to lose to Barca? Wer City expected to win or even draw?

Relatively, City did well. They created several chances, they scored, and certain passages of play we're end-to-end which is something you don't see often with Barca in the Champions league.

As to setting up to deny Barca space, that's very difficult to do so why bother?

City's formation fielding 2 strikers showed that they came to score, which they actually did, and if they had had the same kind of luck that Suarez had for your 1st goal, it could all too easily have been a 3-3 scoreline.

Tottenham Hotspur face a crucial trip to
Fiorentina in the Europa League on Thursday
as they try to reach the last 16 of the
competition.
The last-32 tie is finely balanced after the two
sides played out a 1-1 draw in the first leg at
White Hart Lane last week.
Roberto Soldado gave Spurs an early lead, but
Fiorentina managed to get themselves an
important away goal through Jose Basanta .
Despite their strong showing in the Europa
League this season, concerns have been
raised over whether the Tottenham players will
have one eye on Sunday's League Cup final
against Chelsea.
Mauricio Pochettino's side have struggled for
form in recent weeks, drawing two and losing
one of their last three matches in all
competitions.
Their most recent outing provided high drama
as they needed a 96th-minute goal from Harry
Kane to earn them a 2-2 draw at home to
local rivals West Ham United in the Premier
League.
Meanwhile, Fiorentina have been impressive
since the start of 2015, putting together a 10-
match unbeaten run both at home and in
Europe. However, they have failed to win their
previous two games.
The visitors have no fresh injury concerns
going into the match, but Pochettino could be
tempted to rest one or two of his key players
ahead of their trip to Wembley Stadium this
weekend.
Meanwhile, Fiorentina could be without
Ciprian Tatarusanu and Borja Valero . Long-
term absentees Giuseppe Rossi and Federico
Bernardeschi will definitely miss out.

I think from 2005-2009, An english team was in the Finals of the UEFA Champions league.

In fact from 2005-2012, it was only once(2010) an English team wont reach the Champions league Final..

What then is exactly happening with English clubs with their recent woes in Europe, even now they're supposed to be way richer? tongue
Italian decline is understandable but is English football also on decline?
Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Champions Of Europe 2021 by Nihilist: 9:33am On Feb 27, 2015
The EPL isn't in decline. It only looks that way due to the collapse of Manyoo.

Champions League finalists should theoretically represent the best their leagues have to offer.

Over the last twenty years, the same teams have more or less represented their leagues at the Champions League final.

A Spanish contender at the finals was almost invariably Madrid or Barca. Italians were usually Milan or Juve. Germany was almost exclusively represented by Bayern with Dortmund providing the odd cameo.

While England has been represented 9 times at the final over the last 20 years , Manyoo had been responsible for almost half of those appearances(4 times), with Liverpool and Chelsea appearing twice, and Le Arse just once.

Moreover in the same time period only one English team(Manyoo twice) has won the cup more than once, while the likes of Bayern, Madrid, and Barca have been chopping steady.

English success on the continent is inextricably linked, and owes much to Manyoo's success on the continent.

Every league has a mascot, ours just died. Hopefully Chelsea can bring the Sexy back.

That's my opinion on the 'decline' of English football

Just a transition period.. Spanish teams were trashed by English teams for almost 8 years.. The Only Notable Victory a Spanish team had over an English team was Barcelona win over Arsenal in 2006 and the dubious 1 over Chelsea in 2009.. (NB: I am not saying there are no other ones, but I am talking about the notable ones)

But from 2004-2010, English teams were superior to Spanish teams.. Infact I still remember the tie between Liverpool and Madrid, that ended 4-0, It was either 2008 or 2009.. Spanish teams and German were shítty then..

From 2002-2010, it was only Barca that was recognised as a Spanish power house in Europe.

Can we also say Spanish League was on Decline then..?

I'll say it's actually Italian league that reigned supreme during this period with English league playing second fiddle without really exacting any influence except some heroics here and there like the Liverpool of 2005. grin Spanish league represented by Barcelona then were even more dominant than Premier league represented by Chelsea now. And at least, Sevilla dominated the Europa league, winning three on the trot in 2004-2006. grin

I'm sure if Italian league was not in this there present doldrums, premier league would've lost a slot to them.
