onila: loool well we used to dance on congolese music before, but they started to have much ampler with Koffi Olomide and Awilo around 1996-1997? For coupe decale, it has been influenced by congolese music, becuz they are mostly made by DJs not singers. And before in clubs, maquis, they used to play congolese music a lot so i guess they picked a few expression and start making their own animation (the DJs). There is also the fact that a few of the DJs in Abidjan are actually of congolese descent (Marechal DJ, Erickson the Zulu, Eloh Dj, Ronaldo, Shegal Monkonzi, Papa Fololo, maybe S kelly...) so the transition wasn't difficult. |
