Traffic flows again on Mile 2-Apapa corridor

The expressway at the notorious section hitherto overtaken by tankers and tank farm owners

Residents and commuters on the notorious Oshodi-Apapa expressway woke up to be greeted by the pleasant news of how a midnight operation by government teams cleared the hundreds of tankers and trailers parked along the corridor.

Earlier, a massive operation had been mounted by the presidential taskforce on the Mile two-Apapa corridor and the Lagos state government shortly to dislodge errant tanker and trailer drivers who turned the corridor into a nightmare for road users and residents.

The operation follows weeks of consultations with stakeholders and comes after the historic visit to the corridor last Sunday by a visibly angry governor Babatunde Fashola.

Traffic is flowing seamlessly along the long stretch of road, which is easily one of the most important in the country, being link to the nation’s two ports in Lagos.

An elated professor Sylvester Monye who heads the taskforce set up by the president broke news of the this morning’s operation to BusinessDay.

Absolutely. I am just hoping they can now maintain this new status quo rigidly so affairs don't revert to the 'bad old days'.

I hope so too, I recall there were many similar approach to clear them in the past, but they (tanker drivers association) often threaten the govt with a general strike leading to fuel scarcity that often force the govt to rescind its decision. Let's just hope this is permanent.

The operation was extended to underneath the bridge leading out of Apapa....the one after Leventis and leading to the Naval Bases (NN Beecroft and NN Quorra).

Those guys turned that place into an eye sore....now it's looking pretty clean devoid of all those dirty looking rough guys.

The govt should just fence off that place and probably create a park out of it....that is the only way to permanently keep those guys at bay.
