For some few weeks past my yahoo mail has been sending me lots of unsolicited ad emails. This is despite editing my profile and indicating I don't want to receive any form of advert They could be as much as 15 everyday!

How do I stop these from getting into my inbox or do I abandon yahoo?

Anyway, if the mails are coming from 3rd parties, you can block their email addresses, or setup a filter to redirect such mails to the Trash folder.

LOL....sorry 4 my poor english. And yes, not just 3rd parties but advertorial mails. I receive these alerts(they mostly come in duplicates) on my phone thinking it something good, Log on only to see one useless advert I can't even patronise even if I wanted to.
Abeg to the others, don't just read but drop your suggestions if you're gooding in editing yahoo free email profiles.

I think they've kind of fixed it. This is what they sent me not long ago.

We recently experienced an issue syncing emails for some of our users when accessing email from an IMAP device like an iPhone or an Android phone. Emails that you might have moved from your inbox to folders (including the trash folder) may have been temporarily unavailable. We fixed this issue, and recovered emails that may not have been synced to the right folder.

This is what you can expect to see:

- We have automatically added a folder called "Synced Messages" to your email account today located in the left navigation of your inbox.

- Our systems identified emails that may have been subject to the syncing issue and added them to the "Synced Messages" folder.

This is what you should do:

- Open the "Synced Messages" folder and move any messages you wish to keep to the inbox or your other personal folders.

- After you move the messages you wish to keep, you can delete the remaining messages in "Synced Messages" folder as well as the folder itself. The "Synced Messages" folder will remain in your account until you delete it.

Dude, just mark them as spam messages. After you mark a few, the spam filter will start detecting them automatically. I'm shocked at the complicated suggestions given earlier on this thread.

That's exactly how I've been doing, marking them as spam. Its not the same mail coming back, it a different type each hour, just that, they come in duplictes or recently triplicates. When I started observing it some days ago, I went to my mail profile to check, just to make sure, those boxes u check to indicate the type of mail adverts u want to receive haven't been auto-checked by yahoo. Infact, I just marked some as spam a few mins ago.

Like i said earlier, you can filter them into a folder/trash based on a keyword they all contain eg "travel", "casino", etc (or by sender).

that's a whole lot of stress just install box b and be free from spam forever ............ with box b automated mail won't get to your inbox again

The spam filter selects spam messages based on common keywords they contain, but it's based on actual statistics and designed to avoid false positives, so that when your wife sends you an email about travel arrangements, or your best friend makes a joke about casinos, it won't end up in your spam folder. So keep marking the spam messages, and eventually the spam will stop coming. Also, check your old messages and mark all the spam mails as spam mails because the spam filter probably assumes that any message you opened and did not mark as spam must by alright.

Travel and casino were just examples. (Names of certain *drugs* would have been better).

Of course, i use better keywords when what i want is an instant solution and i'm not ready to wait on the spam marker.

Redirecting to a folder gives the option to glance through once more b4 marking all as spam or deleting.

Very handy when dealing with thousands of messages.

Also keeps the mailbox organized/cleaner.

I hav been battling same problem since last year. I'm convinced some rogues on NL are responsible. They keep tagging me in yahoo groups I never onew about thereby flooding my inbox wt irrelevances and scam mails. NL because many topics opened by people here are also sent in d yahoo groups. I don block tire.

Are d content of d msgs link? If so nd u still havin d probs, just go to ur account setting. Then application, u shud c some applications dat have been linkd wif ur yahoo dat u dnt even knw. Then u remove d 1s u didnt authorize.

If spam mails are delivered to your inbox instead of your spam folder, that's not ok.
If many Nairaland members are facing this problem, that makes it home page worthy.

Another tip to limit this problem is to avoid posting your email address in public locations such as mailing lists & threads.

The tip you gave is exactly what I came here to tell nairalanders. I see people post their email addresses in public locations. If you don't want to get unsolicited mails, don't post your primary email address in public locations.

The most annoying of all the spam mail I receive daily is about how to enlarge my pennnis in two days. What the heck

chaircover: The only thing to do is to rather than deleting them straight away, mark then as SPAM first. This way yahoo will start automatically putting similar Emails into the spam folder for you.

Besides everyone should have a dirty and a clean Email address. you use the dirty one to sign up for things, on here at NL, or anywhere else that your Email address will be made public and use the clean one for your personal mail. of course eventually the clean one starts to get dirty so you have to cross that bridge when you get there.

You just described what I do. A little bit uncanny.

stop putting your email address in public forum and stop using it to register to site which are not too reliable

Mine is even from scammers on here, sending me different mails with similar content, but now they all re-direct to the spam folder. I knnow they will be here looking for more email to spam... Jobless scammers
