Hello -- I am writing from New Jersey, the USA with an etymology question. As Seun has not seen fit to create an "Etymology" section, this forum seems closest.

The word is "gila". Or GILA.

Does this have any meaning in any languages local to west Africa? Or is it really close to another word, that has negative associations?

A research project may carry the name. Wish to do some upfront legwork Easy to pick another name.

Thank you.

Post this in the politics and maybe the culture section and you may get decent responses.
