Why Can't We Have Decent Stadiums In Nigeria? by SuyaEater(m): 4:17pm On Jun 11, 2012
Even before south africa hosted the world cup they had great stadiums.

Even the national stadium in abuja is nothing to be proud of, just look at the pitch and the seats are far away from the action!

^^ Ndola stadium in zambia...look at that design!!!

We have poor taste in design..always boring cascade.

The pitches sux!!

The only decent stadium in nigeria, that is not even world class.

Why do we settle for inferior things?

As we watch euro 2012 don't see the stadiums ukraine are displaying..a country that nigeria is richer than!

Its really a shame ooo...

to build a stadium in is an opportunity for a group of old farts to embezzle money

The Teslim Balogun stadium was commissioned in 1985 after billions and billions it was completed,

The Abuja Stadium cost $360m 61k (which is a joke)

Cardiff Millenium Stadium 72k cost £121m

Allianz Arena 66k cost €340 million

Dortmund Arena 80k cost €200 million

chineke!!

360 million for that rubbish in abuja they call stadium, does the scoreboard even work, chei naija na wa oooooo

That stadium cannot even compete with the stadiums poland/ukraine are displaying right now, the inferiority infrastructure complex that is happening to those running things in naija is just shocking.

360 million and you cannot come up with something to be proud of? chei

At 450 million...even south africa can come up with a better designed stadium...lack of taste from nigeria no wonder we are still the way we are.

Re: Why Can't We Have Decent Stadiums In Nigeria? by naylove(m): 9:07pm On Jun 12, 2012
Poor maintenance culture and pooor vision.those in charge of executing stadium projects are more concerned about how much millions they can scrape from the project without ever dreaming of properly executing the project.

No worry.... We like it dat way...
Not because we don't like magnificent designs..
Just dat more designs would result to more embezzling opportunities..

instead of building a seperate stadium for football, the use one stadium to build football pitches, basketball courts, racing tracks, lawn tennis arena, market etc.

I think everything in Nigeria should be privatised. That way it will be maintained properly. That Abuja stadium is a disgrace.

The is the the result why we don't get good things, comments like this. I have been in Uyo and was so upset that a man was praising the rubbish being put up in Akwa Ibom to deceive the local minded I.diot like this person.
In the first instance the Abuja stadium cost included the cost of 116 serviced Flats that was built for OBJ by julius Berger. Godswill used Ben bruce to steal money from the tropicana project at the cost of 35 Billion Naira, that money would have built a nice stadium like the one about and the tropicana. This a Governor that spends over 1 billion Naira per a kilometre of road built in Akwa ibom while the cost of the same road in UK or Dubai cost half that of those costs.
Until the common man in Nigeria start seeing things the way it should be seen , we will never have any good structues in Nigeria.

@Poster, are u seriously asking this question? As in, do u really need an answer? Or you are just being rhetorical? Seriously, so many questions like this will go unanswered till Jesus comes.
You are talking about decent stadia. That's even too much sef. Why can't we have good jobs, good roads, good life, good education, good healthcare, good facilities, good infrastructures, good internet connection The list goes on and on..
Our major problem, from my own point of view, is BAD LEADERSHIP!!!

Stadium......Really? We should care after other sectors are sorted
Education Sector....lives ruined = undetermined
Health Sector...lives ruined = undetermined
Electricity supply failure...lives ruined = undetermined
Unemployment = Undetermined
Road Transport..lives ruined = Undetermined
Air Transport...lives ruined = Thousands (low estimate)

You want to build world class stadia in Nigeria-the world capital of Corruption.Impossible, you can't give what you don't have. We don't have a decent society, infact Nigeria is an illusion, she is imaginary not real.
In Nigeria, people eat, drink, work, smell and sleep CORRUPTION. Can't you see what's going in abuja and with all the elected officials and contractors?
Not even the security can do anything to stop boko haram from blowing up any stadia. As usual, they're waiting for boko haram to strike before, you hear, "we're on top of the situation". If you love yourself, keep off any place you're doubtful of the security.

baba J bless you jooh. I've said this countlessly but people believed i'm being jealous. It is not possible for the state governor not to work no matter how small. This year, the state budget stood at N397b. There are months where the state gets as high as N75b from abuja. Imagine the annual civil/public servants wage budget at N1.8b and the state come dey so peaceful. Why you no go work?

Abagworo: You people are just talking trash here. Nigeria has the most number of standard stadia in Africa.
Jumping to conclusion, the poster asked why we can't have a good stadiums like the ones he posted based on the fact that they are not expensive to built. It was not in comparison to other african countries. He statedd that Abuja stadium cost 360 million and it was not anything to others that were cheaper. As i mention ed earlier in my post until we change our ways as Nigerian no ways for us. You jump in here and called every one trash. I can imagine you as a leader, you will do the same thing to you advisers
Re: Why Can't We Have Decent Stadiums In Nigeria? by ireti123: 10:16pm On Jun 12, 2012
Why not ask yourself what we're making from the 'indecent' ones we have. We've been unable to maintain & generate 'decent' revenue from the existing ones yet you want a multi-billion naira stadium just for you to brag about it, the same way you use to do with the Abuja stadium. The world is evolving everyday, a decent stadium today won't be same in 10yrs.
Sport in Nigeria is more of a charity by our governments, making little or no contribution to the nation's GDP and shouldn't be among our priority for now.
