Corps members posted to Yobe, Kaduna, Kano, Sokoto, Bornu and Bauchi states have asked the National Youth Service Corps to redeploy them from these trouble states.

The corps members, who expressed sadness as they received their call-up letters for the Batch B NYSC service year, said they were confused as they did not know what to do due to the spate of bombings and other forms of insecurity in these states.

Some of the corps members and their families, who expressed their worries on various social network sites including Facebook and Twitter, said they were extremely sad and disappointed when they received their call-up letters, deploying them to trouble states where there is currently curfew, threats of reprisals andcenseless bombings.

Some of the comments on the social network sites read, “We need to arise and stop the government from sentencing us and our loved ones to death. Is our government/NYSCthis heartless or simply inhumane? We seek our immediate redeployment, we want to live in places where wecan work with peace of mind.’’

Our correspondents learnt thatauthorities of the NYSC had also been under pressure from parents and prospective corps members posted to northern states, who had been seeking alternative posting.

Our Correspondent learnt in Abuja on Sunday that the NYSCwas already collaborating with the affected states on how to ensure security for the corps members posted to their states.

But speaking through the Borno State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Inuwa Bwala, in a telephone interview with our correspondent in Abuja on Sunday, the Governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, made a casefor corps members to be posted to the state.

He argued that the security situation in the state was beingexaggerated by detractors to further isolate the state from the rest of the country.

He said, “While it is true that we have security challenges, it is a fact that these challenges are not exclusive to Borno State.

“We don’t have on record any attack on visitors neither do we have any record of attacks on the NYSC camp or corps members posted to and currently serving in Borno State.”

Honestly it is beyond wickedness. These NYSC officials are exhibiting total incompetence with regards to their duties. Are the Corps members going to re enforce the Army or what ?

Such insensitive government! There is a security situation here an people are advocating that people should allow their wards to go and be slaughtered in these trouble prone states? How many of our ministers allow their children to serve, let alone going the BH infested states? And if our President in a public broadcast said that he was not able to visit certain places in this country because of the security reasons, why would the corpers be used as sacrificial lambs? My advice - if you believe that your life will be at risk if you go up North to serve, please send a rejection letter to NYSC, stating your reasons.

And where are the civil rights organisations? What are they doing about this? I wont want to come back to NL forum in the near future to "commiserate with the families of people who lost their loved ones to BH". God forbid! After money and years spent? Life has no duplicate o! We can avert that if the proper thing is done now.

If however, there is any out there who insists on going to these places, please make sure you get a copy of the book that our president is enjoining us to get to tackle security issues.

see :
President Goodluck Jonathan will on Tuesday launch the presentation of a book written by former Inspector General of Police, Mike Okiro, on security.

The book, 'Overcoming security challenges', serves as a guide on security awareness for Nigerians caught in the present prevailing security challenges.

Other dignitaries expected at the book launch include the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Bamaga Tukur; the Ooni of Ife, Okunade Sijuwade; Senate President David Mark; and the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu.

According to Okiro, the book is a manual of crime prevention and a compendium of expedient clues that could guild government authorities on security challenges facing the nation.http://dailytimes.com.ng/article/gej-launch-book-security-challenges

NYSC certificate is not a criteria for success in life! I advise corps members posted to war zones to decline the call up and go for exemption certificate rather, the are all the same! Meanwhile if you must go you guys have to be prayerful. Manage and endure the three weeks exercise, do your documentation and find your way to base. Meanwhile during the documentation use a simple signature that the worst Alamajiri can replicate so as to ease the monthly clearance. Go to DHL and enquire if the have office in such state and pay hem in advance to send your certificate when the are ready!!! On the other hand I will suggest that FG should scrap this waste of one year called NYSC that makes the rich richer! The money invested in this failed project should be used to encourage Entrepreneurship. Fresh graduates should be trained in one skill or the other and be given a minimum of 500k as start up capital. The system is not structured to create Job.
