Siloko26: Please i need ur candid advice and info on been a lecturer in nigeria. Am considering of taking up a career in teaching, as a lecturer in a federal uni. Bt there is this issue of lecturers earn peanut, so my questions are thus An assistant lecturer with a PhD earns averagely well. A graduate assistant may earn peanuts. To get all the benefits you listed, it is advisable that you vigorously pursue and earn a PhD. This way, you have a choice of lecturing anywhere in Nigeria. You will also get any benefits that you are entitled to, without any stories. I have a lecturer friend who lives in a 2 bedroom flat in Lagos, has two kids and rides a fine jeep. Lecturing is not that bad, especially if your aim is to lead a comfortable life.. T22 |

Kehindedl: I am a graduate assistant in a federal uni in Nigeria, after every deduction my take home at the end of the month is 99,340 naira. Not bad for a start I gues.Lecturing aint a bad idea at all. I got my B.Sc in 2010 and just registered for my M.Sc at UI and I plan to go all the way to PhD. However, my issues is with the school fees. It's kinda awkward to still depend on my parents for money. So i'll like to know if there are any scholarships or funds to assisst would-be lecturers like me? |

I currently work in oil and gas industry, but my talents and passion are geared towards research, lecturing and writing. I hv applied for msc. Money shld not be a motivating factor. If it was, i wld have shelved my dream. Rather, the desire to impact change should propel you. Besides who said lecturers don't make money? Itz because the bulk of our lecturers depend on salaries, handouts and texts. If you are actively involved in research, you wld make money 3 Likes |
