Energy which is simply the ability to do work is one of the central issues that affect all human activities either directly or indirectly. The concern for economic development amongst nations has drawn considerable interest to global energy resources as well as regional or countrywide energy provision and development.

On the whole, the energy situation in Nigeria gives cause for concern in view of the close links between this sector and the rest of the economy. There is therefore an urgent need to find lasting solution to the problems of this sector on which Nigeria’s growth and development prospects largely depend.

One of the effective solutions to this problem is to develop local content in the power and energy sector in the country. Energy resources abound while there is appreciable local capacity to produce power and energy components, machinery/equipment in the country. There is therefore the need to create awareness on the existence of these with a view to fully utilizing them for power and energy development.

This Conference is therefore aimed at creating the needed awareness on the availability of various energy raw materials and local content development in the country with a view to recommend ways they can be utilized for achieving sustainable power and energy provision.
