Nairaland / General / Oba Of Benin Performs Traditional Rites At Emotan Shrine by analystben(m): 3:30pm On Jun 21, 2018
His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, Oba of Benin, has paid a Royal and traditional visit to the site of Emotan Shrine, opposite Oba Market in Benin City, Edo State.

The Omo N’Oba among other activities performed certain sacred traditional rites of edification and fortification.

Accompanied by the Iloi (Queens of the Royal household), a large throng of Chiefs, Enigie, Priest of different divinity and deistical leanings, market women, members of the Royal family and a mammoth crowd to the Emotan Shrine, the Omo N’Oba meticulously performed a number of sacred rites, with the active involvement of all the customary functionaries and groups.

Historically, Emotan lived and came into reckoning in the reign of Oba Ohen and his children, including Prince Ogun, who later became Oba Ewuare the Great in about 1440AD – 1473AD.

Though, a widow and childless, her heroic exploit in strategizing and assisting Prince Ogun, the rightful heir to the Royal stool to reclaim the throne from the usurper Oba, Uwaifiokun earned her the status of veneration.

Thus, when Emotan died, Oba Ewuare directed that she be buried at the spot where she used to sit and sell her wares opposite the Oba Market.

In addition, Oba Ewuare then made a proclamation to deified Emotan, and ordered that every man invested with a title had to visit to pay homage at Emotan Shrine, and also that all funeral processions must visit to pay reverence to the spirit of Emotan.

Significantly, Emotan represent true bastion of fairness, equity, justice, peace and harmony.

Therefore, the presence of the Benin Monarch, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, Oba of Benin at the Emotan Shrine, was symbolic and spiritual in many respect, the legendary Emotan having being deified and venerated closed to six hundred years ago, by Oba Ewuare II great Ancestor.

Interestingly, at the site of Emotan Shrine, which the Omo N’Oba has completely transformed into an esthetic model, Omo N’Oba Ewuare II prayed fervently to the spirit of Emotan, the great Royal Ancestors and the Almighty God to ceaselessly grant him radiant health, good fortune, progress and longevity.

Expectedly, the Omo N’Oba also prayed for robust health and prosperity of members of Royal Family and the Benin Kingdom. As well as the peace, progress and oneness of Nigeria.
Nairaland / General / BUA Group Expands... by analystben(m): 6:34am On Jun 19, 2018
THE BUA Group has concluded plans to expand its Sokoto Cement plant production capacity from 1.5 million tonnes to 4.5 million tonnes in order to meet demand in West African nations.

The Group Executive Director, BUA, Kabiru Rabiu, who stated this in an interview with Vanguard, said the company has been one of the leading players in the cement subsector, which operates Sokoto and Edo Cement Companies respectively.

He said: “BUA Group is doing a lot of exports of cement for example to Niger Republic from our Sokoto cement plant. We have just completed a brand new line of 1.5 million tonnes, the plant was operating 500,000 tonnes. We have just commissioned 1.5 million tonnes.

“We are expanding the capacity by three folds and this will be commissioned in the next few weeks, God willing, by the Vice- President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.

“As you know, Sokoto cement is the only plant in the north-western part of Nigeria, and Sokoto is a border town, so Sokoto cement is very close to Niger Republic, and we are doing significant export from that plant, and also we are doing a little bit from Edo cement plant, but I don’t have the number off hand but I know it is significant and we will continue to do more.

“Every business has challenges and if there is no challenge, there is no money to be made to be honest, so challenges actually should be there.
“We have some challenges in terms of operations but we always work to overcome those challenges. For example, energy is always a challenge for us in Nigeria and Sokoto that was operating on a MP4 like you know, which was a problem because you have to get it from a refinery but now we are having support from the Federal Government which we are getting from the refineries most of the times.
“But more importantly now, we have built a new plant that is using coal and natural gas so we now have better flexibilities, and this was a challenge for us before but now, it is no longer a challenge.

“Like I told you, there are challenges in business but what you do as a business owner is to be able to overcome those challenges so that you continue to operate efficiently.”

He also added: ”You also have to make sure that you give the host community opportunities not only for work but also for growth and for development in terms of school, medicals and we will continue to do more of that so that at least, they benefit by our presence.”

The Royal Father who received Comrade Isreal Amadi-Emina and his supporters in his palace yesterday prayed and blessed the aspirant ahead of the poll urging him to take the development of his constituency as top priority.

The monarch who described Comrade Emina as the suitable aspirant to represent the people of Oshimili North Constituency at the Delta State House of Assembly in 2019 said there is no place for uncultured youths who seeks political positions for their personal gains.

He added that the people would enjoy the dividends of democracy if they elect a credible candidate who has their interest at heart. His Royal Highness then urged the people not betray their conscience for money as they would regret it in the future.

Earlier, Comrade Emina who made his intention to contest for the House of Assembly seat under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the monarch said his decision was bore-out of his desire to render genuine representation and service to the people.

Emina advised the people to be wary of one-chance politicians who are yet to make meaningful impact in the lives of the constituents due to poor representation and quest for personal enrichment at the expense of the people who voted them into offices.

The aspirant who canvassed for support from the people promised youth emancipation, women and youth empowerment, genuine representation, unhindered access, as well as constituency consultations and development through prompt delivery of democracy dividends.

Nairaland / General / Join Govt To Eradicate Trafficking, Oba Ewuare II Charges Church Leaders by analystben(m): 6:30am On Feb 09, 2018
Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, Oba of Benin says despite the proliferation of churches in the country there seems to be no fear of God in the people, hence the increasing rate of crime and other anti-social vices in the society.

Oba Ewuare II who stated this when the Spiritual Leader and General Overseer of Spirit and Life Family Bible Church, Apostle (Mrs.) Deborah Eunice Gordon-Osagiede paid him a courtesy visit in his Palace called on church leaders to help discourage illegal migration and trafficking of the youths.

His Royal Majesty said reports indicate that some church leaders instead of discouraging human trafficking and illegal migration are encouraging it, pointing out that the Palace would continue to align with government to eradicate the menace in the society.

The Benin Monarch commended the work of the Federal Government and International Organisation on migration for their effort to expose the illicit trade and rescue Nigerians subjected to inhuman treatment in Libya.

The Oba of Benin told his guests that Oba Ewuare II Foundation has been established to meet the needs of the poor and less privileged in the society, adding that it is the desire of the Palace to make Edo State destination of choice for everyone by ensuring safety of lives and property.

Omo N’Oba said the Palace would collaborate with security agencies to ensure crime is kept as its lowest ebb in the state in order to make it conducive for investors, thereby creating employment and development.

Earlier, the Spiritual Leader and General Overseer of Spirit and Life Family Bible Church, Apostle (Mrs.) Deborah Eunice Gordon-Osagiede said she was in the Palace to acknowledge the good works of His Royal Majesty since he ascended the throne, especially the abolition of the Community Development Association (CDA), which she described as a landmark achievement.

Apostle (Mrs.) Gordon-Osagiede commended the Omo N’Oba for the peace and tranquillity in the Kingdom, and expresses hope that during the reign of Oba Ewuare II, the Kingdom would experience more peace, progress and development.

While acknowledging the goodness of God in the life of Oba Ewuare II, the clergy wished the Monarch long life and many years on the throne of his fore fathers.

Nairaland / General / IRS Chairman, Isyaku Rabiu, Obe Reject Alleged NIM Membership by analystben(m): 8:23am On Jan 25, 2018
IRS Chairman, Rabiu Isyaku Rabiu, Obe reject alleged NIM membership

The Chairman of IRS Group, Alhaji Rabiu Isyaku Rabiu and a legal-based practitioner/civil society activist, Mrs. Ayo Obe have disowned their alleged membership of the Nigeria Intervention Movement (NIM) Party - a party formed by some Nigerian political and human rights activists with an aim to partake in the 2019 general elections.

In their separate statements made available to newsmen on Wednesday, Alhaji Isyaku Rabiu and Mrs. Ayo Obe said they never attended any meeting of NIM and were never contacted before they were allegedly appointed into any position with NIM.

Isyaku Rabiu Chairman of IRS described the information that he was the Deputy National Chairman of NIM as misleading and a misrepresentation of his position regarding political activities in the country.

He further explained that the publication and sad appointment were done in error as his nonpartisan status on general political activities in the country fuses with his vision to build bridges of love, understanding, peace and security, unity and trust, service, sacrifice, patriotism and development across the country.

Part of Rabiu Isyaku’s statement reads: “While it is true that in the course of my discussions and interactions with people of like minds in Nigeria at different fora, I (like many other well-meaning Nigerians who see this as a prerequisite for a great Nigeria) subscribe to the idea of encouraging very large youth population & pressure groups that will promote peace and unity in Nigeria and also serve as a platform to fight corruption and ensure good governance by the political class, I was invited to join the group NIM on the understanding that it was going to be a pressure group that supports the above and vision. At no time did I attend any meeting of the group where it was discussed and agreed that I was to serve as the Deputy National Chairman of the movement or that the movement was going to be a political party or association that will partake in politics.

“In order to avoid any misleading information or misrepresentation of my position regarding general political activities in Nigeria, I wish to state categorically as follows: That the said appointment and publication was not known to me and a grave mistake by NIM for which they have expressly apologized to me.

“That I maintain a nonpartisan status as it suites my vision of building bridges of love and understanding, peace and security, unity and trust, service, sacrifice, patriotism and development across all sections of Nigeria and that I remain committed to the various groups and organizations, set up by me and by others and to which I am associated with. These group must have as their focal points good governance, true democracy that is anchored on credible elections, the training and entrenchment of good character and leadership traits for our youth, respect and value for the status of citizenship and the ultimate objective of the welfare & well-being of the generality of Nigerians.
“That while wishing all political parties and associations well, I maintain a nonpartisan status and will appeal an appreciation of this right that I am entitled as fundamental”, the Statement concluded.

On her part, Mrs. Ayo Obe said she didn’t subscribe to the use of her name and photograph in promoting the group noting that her contact was added to the social media platform without her consent.

According to Obe, “I have not taken part in any of its social media discussions, I have not physically attended any NIM meetings, and I have not offered myself for appointment, election or selection into any of its offices or committees. Despite this, my name and/or picture have been circulated on at least three occasions as having some position, or having been appointed to committees of the NIM.

“Now, as more and more people have continued to ask me questions about NIM which I am neither able nor inclined to answer on its behalf, it seems clear that it is only the messages associating me with NIM that have reached, and remained with, the wider public. It is therefore incumbent on me to make it clear that I am not a member of NIM.

Obe welcomed efforts to present electorates with different ways to approach politics in the country but said, “This clarification should not be taken as criticism that a group of Nigerians have taken it upon themselves to offer something new in the form of NIM. I wish the group well in its endeavours. But I am not one of its members, officers or supporters”.

No Arrest Warrant for BUA MD says Police HQ
The Nigeria Police Force Headquarters in Abuja has denied issuing a warrant of arrest for the Managing Director (MD) of BUA’s Obu Cement Company, Engr. Yusuf Binji.
The Force Public Relations Office (FPRO) Jimoh Moshood who spoke in a telephone interview on Thrusday night said there was no directive to arrest Engr. Binji describing the news as mischievous and an attempt to drag the name of the Nigeria police through the mud.
It would be recalled that the Special Adviser on Media to the Edo State Government, Crusoe Osagie, had on Thursday issued a malicious press release saying the Police has issued a warrant of arrest for the MD alleging that he (Binji) perpetuated an attack on the convoy of Governor Godwin Obaseki after his visit to Okpella. This revelation by the Police puts the Media aide's wild allegations to question.
Meanwhile, a former aide to the Government House has revealed a plan to discredit BUA Group and disrupt its operations in the State.
The source who pleaded anonymity said the State Governor, Godwin Obaseki has been under serious pressure to act fast on the lingering Mining dispute between BUA Group and Dangote Group. He said the arrest warrant was a charade to deceive the public and get sympathy for actions against BUA Group who has an ultra-modern USD$1.2billion dollars investment in the state.
According to him, “You and I know the whole government coming into the dispute is planned. And the plan is to force BUA out of business or frustrate them just like others. I wouldn’t want to mention names but we know them and we know they are champions of certain companies who just seek to remain sole cement producers in the market.
“In fact it will shock you to know that yesterday’s convoy attack was stage played just like they have faked many other things in the past that I wouldn’t want to mention. You know Obaseki is a businessman, he knows what he is doing and I can tell you, he doesn’t care if BUA has over USD$1.2billion investments in the state or not, he wants Dangote in and to do that, he must act the script perfectly.
“So I am not surprised. He is busy calling for investors yet the ones in his state, he is fighting, what then is he encouraging in this hostile business environment he is creating for Edo state? For me, I see the action of the government in taking sides as playing the master’s script and it is bad for the business and economy of the country and also flies in the face of the Ease of doing business policy of Buhari's government“.

RE: BRAZEN ACTS OF IMPUNITY: EDO STATE GOVERNOR ORDERS ARREST OF BUA STAFF
We have been made aware that today, the Edo State Governor, in the company of some security operatives, visited one of our mining sites in Obu-Okpella, Edo State to effect a gestapo-style forceful shutdown of that mine despite a subsisting court pronouncement that the Mine be allowed to operate. Upon reaching that mining site and not meeting any personnel or equipment, two BUA Cement employees were invited to the mining site to receive the Governor. We later learnt that these employees were arrested upon arrival on the orders of the Governor and taken away for no just reason.
As it stands, we do not know why they were arrested but have requested our lawyers to secure their unconditional release immediately as these employees are innocent and have no knowledge of why they were being arrested.
Now that one of our mining sites has been forcefully closed down by the Governor without regard to the court’s pronouncement on maintaining status quo at that particular site (and without any formal communication from the Edo State Government), BUA as a responsible corporate entity has instructed its lawyers to report back to the courts on this latest developments and pursue all legal channels to enforce its rights.
Whilst the Governor based the legitimacy of his actions on a purported Stop-Work order from the Ministry of Mines, BUA wishes to reiterate that there is a pronouncement of the Federal High Court sitting in Benin on December 5, 2017 that declared the Stop-work order issued by the ministry as a contravention of the Court’s directives to maintain status quo and thus deemed it illegal. The same court also threatened to arrest the Minister who is the first defendant in the case if the stop word order continues to be pursued.
We once again ask all parties to await the conclusion of judicial process as this matter is already before a court of competent jurisdiction.

A Statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Palace, Desmond Agbama reveals that the Odionwere and others suspended can no longer perform any function as leaders in their villages.

According to the statement, "The suspension which was pronounced at Ogue-Emanton was as a result of their actions of assaulting Palace emissaries who were sent by the Oba of Benin to demarcate the boundary between Egbirhe and Okhoromi. The suspended Odionwere and elders of Egbirhe also disobeyed the directive of the Palace, which forbids them from having anything to do in the Elders Council Hall “Oguedion” in the village.
