At last.
I've posted in several places looking for a martial arts thread.

I'm not a practitioner. I'm actually looking to learn and maybe get some tips on which martial art to begin and where one can do so in Naija.

I tried karate in 2004, but my tight schedule kept me away from the dojo, hope to pick it up again sometime soon.

I'll also love to learn caporreira .

Capoeira. Now that sounds cool. Maybe not the most effective but at least you'll look cool doing it.
One I really want to get into is Thai boxing. I heard it's second to none for sheer effectiveness in combat situations.

I'm curious to know if one can actually get enough training by buying the DVDs, books, punching bags and other apparatus, and practising on your own. If it were judo or taekwondo, I'm sure there are enough dojos around but where the heck is someone going to find a capoeirista to teach you?

I'm a member since 1999 till date, the disadvantage I have about it now is that people often complain about the way I walk and I look just too younger than my real age. but believe me, it's so wonderful. I was one of the Shell Taekwondo group at Edjeba yard in Warri in the year 2001/2002, wherever the environment I found myself, the first thing I do is to look around for any Taekwondo group available within. I introduced my younger ones as well and I tell you, we are all verry hot. we do engage in "sparing" within the house and our dad has been so encouraging. sparring is a true act of putting your skills into real combat. it's a true fight, I mean we do hit eachother during sparring just exactly the way you would hit your enemy out there. though it mostly end up in injury but we realy don't care. right now I'm in Port Harcourt

Martial art takes alot of discipline and time. Its best to start when young. But better start late than never,  I heard combat jujitsu is the deadliest art. It is used by the US special ops. But ibstead of waiting for the best and most fanciful arts, just start with the most available- karate
