Siasia plans big for league players

Heartland coach and Super Eagles coach in waiting, Samson Siasia has disclosed that he has big plans for the league players in the country.

Siasia told Vanguard sports that he will build the new look Super Eagles around some of the

Best players in the country.

“I have a good plan for this job. I really need to go back to how it was done in the past. I need a camp for the local players.

“The local league is very important and I need many players from there. Going by my experience with local players I’ll certainly need a camp for building of a team. They can be released for league matches every Thursday.

“Westerhof did it. We can do it again. We will not only be in camp training. We will be playing friendly matches from time to time.

“There are so many things we need to build into the local players. They are not as daring as we used to be. As players, we were inspired by large crowd at match venues. We were charged anytime we saw good crowd. These days, it cows some players.

I really don’t know why. To get over that, they need exposure. So, we have to play many friendlies.

“And I must have to camp them to effect so many tactical and technical changes. Scouting at home and abroad will be taken seriously. There are challenges and I’m ready for them,” Siasia said.”

Rangers drop 15 players

Rangers of Enugu will drop 15 players from the squad of last season to make way for new ones.

According to the media officer of the club, Foster Chime, the names of the players will be released in the next two days and that will signal the preparation for next season.

“We have short listed 15 players for the drop because we don’t need them for next season. We have been able to retain the players we need for next season and we are also on the verge of signing some quality players.

“These players that would be dropped did not meet up to the expectations of the coaching crew and they will be asked to look for other clubs.

“Most of them did not play up to five matches throughout the season and we cannot continue to retain such players.

“Rangers will certainly be stronger next season. That is a promise and the Enugu State Government is ever ready to support the team,” Chime said.

Rangers Chief applauds Technical crew and players

Enugu Rangers International Chief Executive Officer, Ozo Paul Chibuzor, has applauded the efforts of his technical crew and players in the just ended premiership season for their efforts in picking a ticket to represent the country in next year’ sub-regional club football competition, WAFU cup.

In an exclusive chat with www.npl.com.ng, Chibuzor poured encomiums on the technical crew led by Coach Alphonsus Dike for their general performance during the just ended season that saw Rangers emerging the best defensive side in the league and placing fifth in the twenty team log and playing for the third place in the Federations cup.

“Surely, our performance could have been better but I have to give kudos to the technical crew and the players for their determined effort at re-launching the fortunes of the club in the ended season. I am pretty sure that with a little more effort we will get there in the coming season. Also, I have to say that picking a ticket to play in the WAFU cup was no mean feat. I will say that getting this far should be celebrated considering the fact that the club has not gotten to this level for a long while,” stated the club boss.

He further said, “We are already in the market seeking quality strikers to help us bury the numerous chances that we create in most games that we play. Our search will not be limited to the shores of the country as our dragnet will include players from other countries in the sub-region.”

On the payment of the players and officials entitlements for the ended season, the CEO said, “As soon as we get back to Enugu from Kano, everything about sign-on fees will be sorted out and we plan ahead for the coming season.

Rangers beat Sunshine Stars 2-1 in the third place game of the Federation Cup last week.

Zamfara Coach dream of a successful season ahead

Head coach of Premier League side, Zamfara United F.C of Gusau, Coach Alhassan Mohammed, has promised the club’ numerous fans that the coming 2010/2011 season will be one that will see the team contesting for honours with the top class teams for a place in the continent.

In an exclusive telephone chat with www.npl.com.ng, the youthful coach stated that with the players he is assembling for the coming season, there is no way for his side to be among the strugglers as he expects to keep the bunch of players that helped him steer the team out of relegation waters last season.

“We are doing all we can to ensure that we emerge amongst the top four sides next season and we are not joking about our intentions. We hope to retain the bunch of players that helped us last season and looking to replace those that will be willing to go to other clubs with some quality players that we are already discoursing with. I am very optimistic that the coming season will be one for Zamfara United,” enthused the coach who is still holidaying in Benin.

The former Bendel Insurance and Julius Berger veteran further stated, “Our first game with Bukola Babes will no doubt be an interesting one but I assure you that we will start early to gather the points from that very game as every point gained in any game will to a very large extent enhance our dreams of rubbing shoulders with the more established sides in the premiership.”

Slovenian eager to return to Pillars

Slovenian coach, Ivo Sajh, has told MTNFootball.com he wishes to return to Nigerian club Kano Pillars to complete some 'unfinished business'.

Sajh led Pillars to the semi-finals of last year's CAF Champions League only to depart the team soon after under a cloud.

"Reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League was no mean achievement for this team, but I also know that we could have gone all the way and won the trophy but for some problems in the team by the time we clashed with Heartland in the semi-finals," Sajh told MTNFootball.com.

"That is why I wish to return to the club and ensure that next year, Pillars are champions of Africa."

Sajh was suspended and his tactics and team selection questioned by Pillars management by last year's semi-final against fellow Nigerian club Heartland.

He will thereafter leave for his native Slovenia while also complaining that the club had breached certain clauses in his contract.

"The problem was lack of communication between me and the officials. This will not happen again when I return," he argued.

Last season, Pillars finished as runners-up in the Nigeria Premier League and will represent the country along with champions Enyimba in next year's CAF Champions League.

Chibuzor told NPL official website that everything is set to make the team regain its past glory next season.

“We have also identified some players that will join us very soon. The team will be fortified with about six new players, because we realise that the core of the side must remain.

“That will give us a very tight team and I am already looking ahead to a good season where we will finally break the jinx of not winning any trophy for a long time.

“All I want our supporters is that they will smile at the end of next season,” Chibuzor said.

Rangers finished in the fifth position in the Nigeria Premier League last season and were also knocked out in the semi finals of the FA Cup by Kaduna United.

3SC in talks with Owu Sportswear over team’s kits NIGERIA Premier League giants, Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan has opened negotiations with a local sports wear manufacturing company, Owu Sportswear, with a view to getting the outfit to supply kits to the club.

A source close to the club told journalists on Tuesday that the deal has reached such a stage that agreement could be signed as early as next week.

In the deal, according to the source, who pleaded anonymity, Owu Sportswear is expected to supply 10 sets of kits and ceremonial wears so that it would have enough wears for its assignments.

Confirming the deal, Chief Operating Officer of Owu Sportswear, Olatunji Brown, said the parties have reached agreement in principle subject to a contract, which could hold in a few days time.

He said the company chose to partner with 3SC so that the club would be dressed properly in all its assignments, adding that the deal will bring a new dimension to club football in Nigeria.

“Being the first Nigerian club to win a continental championship we see 3SC as the ideal club to pioneer this innovation.

“With this deal 3SC will have enough jerseys to exchange with its opponents after every match, just as it would fresh kits for every game. There are also away and home kits, as well as alternate wears to differentiate it from the mass,” said Brown.
