The picture of gaping chasms in a Japanese highway demonstrated the power of the March 11 earthquake.
Now the astonishing speed of reconstruction is being used to highlight the nation’s ability to get back on its feet.
Work began on March 17 and six days later the cratered section of the Great Kanto Highway in Naka was as good as new. It was ready to re-open to traffic last night.

Benin - ore road is testament of everything that is wrong with Nigeria - Fix that road well and you fix the entire Nigeria -

When the will power exist as demonstrated by Japan then anything is possible - watch them restore the damage to its former glory if not better - while Nigeria remains in cesspit

U better believe it for ur own good.
It is very very very possible. I have worked with a Company working on Lagos-Badagry.
It can be done but in Nigeria a lot of highly preventable delays occur. If a road like Benin-Ore is the road that links Abuja with the Airport where GEJ goes to and fro, it would have been rushed as the Abuja airport road is rushed by Julius Berger RIGHT NOW
Re: Japanese Tsunami, Road Repaired Six Days After----pictures! by Arosa(m): 11:04pm On Mar 24, 2011
poo head, do you need 2000 years of independence to make roads? or 400 years of modern education? do you have a head? undecided we are talking of road contruction here, not rocket science. Mumu.

I know it is possible, and it is not rare occurrence in the developed world. What I don't get is why Nigerians, even those who are abroad still make excuses for the situation in the country.

Thanks dear Kobo, the value we place on life here is so appalling.
Small time, they will say its because of hundreds of years of slavery. Was it slavery that made Anenih to loot the money allocated for Benin-Ore his own state when a Minister of Works? Was it slavery that made him to be recently made Board Chair for NPA instead of being behind bars?

Because I live in Europe does not mean I should expect Nigeria to work like Europe, I use to think why can't Nigeria copy how advance country get it right, not until I got into the system myself and then realises the great differences.  Nigeria's decision/solutions on projects whether ecological, maintenance or development is tied to politic and lack of fund, while in Europe is pure 'solution' without politicking and the fund are there anytime to access without going to the government to beg because every vehicle and motorcycle owner in europe pays an annual road tax that runs into billions of euro's, How many vehicle owners pay road tax in Nigeria?

So every contruction company whether in Nigeria, Japan, America, Europe can repair that road overnight, its not the technical knowhow that is missing but  decision making ability and fund.

What a load of inferiority complex ridden TWADDLE. Why don't you all go FUUK yourselves and go become JAPANESE and stop disturbing our peace? Worthless creeps. Tell me exactly how many countries in the world, including developed nations, that can replicate this feat attributed to Japan?

It is now a developing country like Nigeria that your stuppid iddiotic selves want to use to compare to Japanese technology?

Worthless idiots. How long has Japan been independent? Thoughtless, self hating goats. Abeg fvuk off outta here. Go form your own fvcking country if NIGERIA is not good enough for you.

Fvucking ASsSHOLES.

you need to calm down. there's nothing wrong with the nigerian people expecting more from themselves and their government. you cannot expect a people to be content or appreciative of the condition our country is in especially when the roads in front of their houses take months if not years to repair.

I would lean towards mismanagement of funds as opposed to lack of fund. Nigeria is a damn rich country led by clueless greedy bigots

cool cool cool See what I mean?? It baffles me that there are Nigerians who've actually lived in some of the developed world that would rather things continue the way they are in Nigeria. It is almost as if they are OK with making excuses for it to remain as is . . . without wondering how much better life would be, for even our own people, if things got better?

You see a devastated country rebuild what many in Nigeria consider normal, in less than 6 days and someone comes in to produce yet another excuse for a politician in our country to sit back and do nothing about the death-traps some have come to consider roads in Nigeria. Is the tar, cement, etc used in that road repair in the picture from Valhalla?

Rather than demanding our leaders change and do better . . . they pacify themselves with excuses like the one below . . . .

Brainless oaf. Development is not about the developed having ''two heads'', and the developing having ''one head''.

The Japanese simply have MORE EXPERIENCE in statecraft and as a modern society than Nigeria. They've been independent for over 2,000 years!!!!! Their history of modern education at all levels stretches back at least 3 TO 400 YEARS, while you got your first higher institution 40 years ago. WHY THE FUK WILL THEY NOT BE MORE ADVANCED THAN Nigeria?? DUMBBB  GOATS. Listen up. If YOU are not prepared to WAIT IN LINE FOR YOUR TURN ON THE WORLD STAGE, instead, coming here everyday to depress people with your nonsense SHIIT, you will have folks like me to telling you to FVUCK OFFF and go FORM YOUR OWN COUNTRY AND BECOME A JAPAN IN 6 MONTHS!!!!! IDIOTSSS!!!!

I can't remember anyone ever saying anything as dáft, no apologies. By this poster's inference, we should wait for up to 400 years before expecting or demanding access to good roads, potable water and standard schools.

I said it long time ago, Nigerians are so gullible and easy to lead, when you push em to the wall, they keep going, no wonder foreigners think we are the happiest people in the world.

@ Kobojunkie abio oooo, what really gets to me is how we celebrate and start giving Governors/Politicians awards 4 nothing (Governor of the year, of the decade, bla bla , and then when we see something bad in our country we start to compare it to something bad in another country,

Like saying shebi u get mugged in Brixton, U ger robbed in NY and all that rubbish,

Imagine we are listing GSM as an achievement in 2009/2010 ,  lipsrsealed

Is a pot hole road in Ohio the same as a pot hole road in 9ija,  report it in Ohio and it will be fixed while heads will roll in the department responsible,  angry

4 here Mr Tony Anenih is working the street as a free man (even has a National award to his name as well) with the Billions he spent on roads, that we seem to be building 4 ever ds days, working with Lanterns @ Night to build Roads, what a country, cry
Re: Japanese Tsunami, Road Repaired Six Days After----pictures! by stagger: 11:33am On Mar 25, 2011
After an accident claimed 30 lives on the Abuja-Keffi road, Tony Anenih promised that the road would be dualised. It was completed in 2 and a half years.

See East-West road taking forever to finish. It is a question of priority in our country.

The coming generation would have met it there in naija.
What about the benin-ore road that has been for a decade and countless of lives and properties have wasted there?
You seem not to know your country well.

i cant beleive you said it is lack of fund that is the problem, so more tax. no sir!!!. a few weeks to elections and all the roads in lagos and some other states are being tarred overnight. so where did the money come from? the problem is not lack of fund but too much fund that is being looted. just get into governemnt in nigeria and see the level of stealing going on  and you will realise it ,
infact nigerians are already over taxed  indirectly, we pay for our  own security, water, light ,health, education , take care of your immidiate and extended families , govt exist here only for itself  . they are not aware anyone exist

All these construction companies dia not build a road with no consideration for drainage, wear and tear and all 4 their countries,

Soon as they get to 9ija its a different story, they build to it to wear and tear in a space of a year,

We have Bitumen, We have Lime stone, but we cant get anything to work,

Using Manual Rollers to spread tar, right in the middle of an afternoon traffic,  wetin dey do us sef,

All our Roads are the most extensive, but the worst,

WHY WHY WHY,

The rehabilitation or construction of roads is tied to political patronage. Federal Roads in the South East are the worst in Nigeria because previous Govts saw them as rebels for a long time.
Buhari used a lot of money from PTF to fix many roads in the North because he is from there.
GEJ is building major roads into Abuja at great speed because he passes there everyday.
Very important Federal roads in Lagos were abandoned in other to avoid ACN taking credit for them.
The already bad roads are facing intense pressure because haulage companies and trailer owners will not allow the railway to become effective.
The toll gates were angrily abandoned because revenue generated ended up in private pockets of political opponents.

Most road construction materials are imported because the local industry has failed to develop and foreign construction firms will always patronise manufacturers in their home countries. e.g. Julius Berger will cut massive stones from the quarry in Mpape Abuja, move them on the bad roads to the wharf in Lagos or Warri, transport same to Germany and bring back as very expensive marbles from Frankfurt used in their building constructions for politicains and Govt agencies in Nigeria. They dont pay for the damage their trucks does while moving these rocks to the seaports; rather they get new contracts at huge inflated sums to rehabilitate same roads.
and on and on it goes

All I can say is God will not fail us in Nigeria. I dont know how and when but I must see a change b4 I die. Our politicians cannot hold us to ransom for ever! #Dats my belief
