Twitter Ban Shows WHY Nigeria Must Remain ONE. by Rissamenti: 12:18am On Jun 05, 2021 |
In a way, this Nigerian ban of Twitter exemplifies the VERY REASON WHY NIGERIA MUST NOT BREAK UP.
I mean.....the very audacity of it is heartwarming. Tell me something. How many countries in Africa can even DARE to contemplate such a thing? Challenging such a major international corporate giant? Banning them? Very few. Maybe South Africa, Egypt, finish. AND NIGERIA. The twitter ban is a VERY BIG DEAL for Twitter. They are not happy about it one bit. Their shareholders are not smiling, and privately see it as a fiasco by the executives. See, Twitter has a reported '2 million' Nigerian users. The likelier figure is 10 to 15 million. Not just that, but Nigeria is projected to become the 3rd most populous nation on Earth after India and China by 2050. No big firm in their right mind wants to be excluded from the Nigerian market going forward. So Twitter are very unhappy about this ban. See, we could not say these things about your little 'Biafra', 'Oduduwa', 'Arewa', 'Niger Delta' etc new republics you want to replace Nigeria with. You would each become like Sierra Leone. Togo. Burkina Faso. Guinea. Ignored by the world, and bullied by the likes of France. Could your tiny countries DARE to ban Twitter? Nahhh... They'd be your absolute LORDS. But today, as Nigeria, you sneeze, and the whole world catches a cold including Twitter. What a great fall it would be, your disintegration.Today, Twitter has issued a statement saying they are ''deeply concerned'' that Nigeria has banned them. I'm pretty sure they are making overtures to the Nigerian govt to reverse the ban. If Oduduwa republic or Biafra republic bans Twitter, do you think Twitter would even notice, much less issue a statement? Who dash una? Listen up, African. The ONLY thing that makes you relevant in today's busy world is that name, NIGERIA. Africa's biggest economy. Africa's most populous nation of 210 million people. Giant of Africa. Continental powerhouse. Geopolitical behemoth. Lose that, and you become ..NOTHING. 8 Likes 1 Share |

FarahAideed: Shareholder are smiling , twitter stock rose by 3 percent after the announcement Garbage. Twitter stocks have been rising regardless of events in Nigeria, and rose 3.4% in the last 12 hours alone as well. So it's absolutely nothing to do with Nigeria. What shareholders are concerned with is the impact of the ban on long-term strategic gains, and being excluded from Nigeria, Africa's biggest internet market and ecosystem, is not regarded as a good sign. 6 Likes |

Guy you are a big fool. way smaller countries have banned all social media let alone not just Twitter before and nothing has happened to them, no sanctions no international outrage, nothing. your acting as if banning twitter is akin to expelling foreign diplomats, they are just a company Nigeria moneywise is just a drop in the bucket for twitter, 2 million users compared to the 186 million they have globally. they will earn their revenue elsewhere, not to mention that people can download VPN or proxies and continue using twitter. all this walaha just to make a total fool of yourself on the global stage 1 Like |

The Nigerian government says it has "indefinitely suspended" Twitter's operations in the country, the Ministry of Information and Culture announced in a statement on Friday. "The Federal Government has suspended, indefinitely, the operations of the microblogging and social networking service, Twitter, in Nigeria," it read. The statement, which was posted on the ministry's official Twitter handle on Friday evening, accused the American social media company of allowing its platform to be used "for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria's corporate existence." The suspension comes two days after Twitter deleted a tweet by President Muhammadu Buhari that was widely perceived as offensive. In that tweet on Tuesday, the Nigerian leader threatened to deal with people in the country's southeast, who he blames for the recurring attacks on public infrastructure in the region. "Many of those misbehaving today are too young to be aware of the destruction and loss of lives that occurred during the Nigerian Civil War. Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand," Buhari wrote in the now-deleted tweet, referring to the brutal two-year Nigeria-Biafra war, which killed an estimated one to three million people, mostly from the Igbo tribe in the eastern part of the country between 1967-1970. The tweet was deleted Wednesday after many Nigerians flagged it to Twitter. Information Minister Lai Mohammed criticized Twitter's action and accused the social media giant of "double standards." https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2021/06/04/africa/nigeria-suspends-twitter-operations-intl/index.html?__twitter_impression |
