That is really fortunate. However the posts shown earlier are not hate speech and there is no racist connotation even had Jones been black.

Furthermore Jones wife is black so if those guys were racist they would have found a way of roping her into the comments.

Countless stars and public figures receive such abuse, criticism and vitriol regularly.
Not all such treatment is hate speech or racist.

Unless its in Jones contract then the club decide the squad numbers.

I doubt the story is true. It makes no sense for Jones to refuse to give up a shirt number when his position in the club is not even safe. Also makes no sense for the club to accept his refusal and potentially jeopardize the transfer.
