People like you made the same comment you are making back in 1965 and 1983

And they all regretted it.

Yes, I am no fan of Buhari, and personally I have been disappointed by the bad leadership we have had since 1999. But millitary rule? No thank you

Explain to me how the current Nigerian regime is different from a military regime?

You're living in the illusion of a democracy.

It is funny to see guys chanting in support of the coup here on this site.

Well me, despite my anger with apc, won't join them.

The funny thing is that most of the people chanting in support of the coup will go and then criticise Buhari who did the same thing against a corrupt goverment in 1983.

As for me.both the Guinean coupists and Buhari in 1983 and Nzeogwu in 1966 were wrong.

The best way to take down a democratic goverment is by democratic methods or by a genuine people's revolution. Not a millitary coup.

Because today's coupists is tomorrow's Mobutu, Amin, and company. And if you think that the Army would respect your freedom of expression, I am sorry for you.

Well under millitary regime

1. Newspapers were shut for any excuse

2. MNK would have been sentenced by a millitary tribunal and shot dead. Same for Igboho

3. Journalists writing against the goverment would have been detained or even killed

4. Websites like this one would have been shut down.

5. If the Army decides that every state should e.g. have ruga, you will be forced to accept it. No such thing as your state having the roght to resist. Same for grazing

6. Student protest? Army and mopol would be unleashed on them. ( literally)
7. Nothing like free association.

8. State security will spy on your ordinary organisation

9. No fair trials. Your property could be taken over for nothing

10. No justice for army abuse.

Better not call for the Army. Buhari is bad now, but army rule is worse.

At the end of the day, democracy is better than army rule.

The first and second republic in Nigeria were also disrespecting the constitution by corruption and rigging and jailing opponents. And there was security crisis in both times.

But at least you had freedom of expression and some basic rights

Rights that were taken away by the Army.

In 1962, awo went through a normal court process and was sentenced for plotting a coup. Possibility of appeal.

Meanwhile under Abacha, it was summary jail and death sentence.

I lived under Shagari and under millitary rule. And army rule was worse

Democracy when practiced properly,I don't have an issue with..
But when a man tries to perpetuate himself on a country, under the guise of democracy.
After he was supposed to have cleared out..
That,I have a problem with..
Obasanjo wanted to try that shit and it wouldn't have ended well for him..
Why are Africans so predictable?
This is a man who went to jail,to end a one man rule and when it comes to his time to hand over,he refuses..
We see this same nonsense happening all over the Continent.. angry

American elections used to be

Rigged

Subject to vote buying

Also subject to people being prevented from voting.

Especially in the 19th and 20th century.

The people of America fought back not by coup but by making things better via active engagement in the democratic proceas

In 1983, Buhari took over for the same reasons as Conde. Corrupt elections with subversion of the people's will. And a corrupt goverment. (The 1983 electionswere notable for widespread rigging and violence and vote alteration)

As we can see, it did not work. Same in many other African countries.

If coups worked, most African countries would be developed. As we can see that has not happened

Democracy in many counties like the UK and the US used to be practiced poorly too.

They are better now because people took time to actilvey participate in the democratic system to make it better inspite of the imperfections

Not by coup.( France tried coup, and ended up with anarchy)

I don't endorse the president's corruption but a military government is inexcusable and is one of the worst forms of government today. Countries will evolve naturally and get to a place where their institutions will become better and stronger. With time , the electoral process will become more transparent and more legit. But a military take over is just taking everyone backwards.... there's no shortcut to governance.

Let's just see how it plays out.

And the way francophone West Africa is rife with coup these days is suspicious.
