If we can maintain the part in bold, there won’t be a divided south. All southerners in PDP should work for the emergence of a SE candidate because of the popularity of the party in the region while all southerners in APC should ensure any region from the south gets the ticket. That way, we can have an all south contest and achieve our aim of a southern president in 2023.

Sadly however, the same folks who need the presidency the most are not showing any interest in the PDP ticket. They are standing by and watching as Northern elements in the party are doing everything to zone the ticket to the North. Not even one SE PDP leader is complaining. Not even the usual anti-Fulani Abaribe. Instead, they are on social media trying to blackmail the south west not to contest for APC ticket. How’s is that a logical strategy?

It is logical because the SW has been in govt for 16yrs now since 1999

We can all step down for a south east candidate the way we (southern candidates) stepped down for Yaradua in 2007

It is called "gentleman's agreement" just for the sake of equity and justice

Zoning presidency to the North is not only a smart move by PDP, it's the ONLY move. PDP cannot zone presidency to south without zoning it to SE and nobody is going to vote for Ibo president. If they zone it to South (i.e SE), then any option APC take, they will win because the whole North will vote APC.


So the only play PDP have is to zone it to the North and hope to split the Northern vote should APC decide to zone it to North or to build on Northern dissident votes should APC decide to zone to the south. That is the only hope they have. its not a guarantee they will win, but zoning to SE is a guarantee of failure at the poll.


Put another way, anything can happen if PDP zones North (events can conspire in their favour) but a loss is guaranteed if they zone it to SE.

At least they are trying to act smart this time around.

Well, before you ask those in APC to step down, fight for the ticket of PDP first. Force the party to zone its ticket to the SE. once you achieve that, folks from other parts of the south like me can be convinced of the seriousness of the agitation for Igbo presidency and the need for the rest of the south to make that concession to SE in APC.

You can’t be fighting for VP slot in PDP and then be telling other parts of the south in APC to concede the ticket to SE. It doesn’t work that way.

The presidency is rotated because of the lopsided political structure of Nigeria created by northern soldiers to favor north with 19 states, but 2 old southern regions have only 17 states.
Land mass is never used as yardstick to create states in a country formed by different regions.

Creating excess number of 19 states in the northern region tilted political power too much to the northern region. Rotation is the only way a southern presidential candidate can win presidential election in Nigeria, provided north is not supporting any northern presidential candidate.

A presidential candidate must win 25% of votes in 24 states before proclaimed winner.
