SSANU, NASU, NAAT and FG’s Negotiation Committee to Meet on Friday by sinkhole: 8:57pm On Aug 15, 2022
The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and National Association of Academic Technologists are set to meet with the Federal Government’s negotiation team led by Prof. Nimi Briggs on Friday, The PUNCH has learnt.

Sources in the Federal Ministry of Education confirmed the plan to our correspondent on Sunday in Abuja.

The PUNCH reports that SSANU and NASU, like the Academic Staff Union of Universities, are on strike following what the unions described as the failure of the government to meet some of their demands.

The strike by the unions commenced with a two week warning strike which started on March 27, 2022, while the extension of another two weeks commenced on Sunday, April 10, 2022, and it is still ongoing.

Some of the demands of SSANU include the inconsistent issue of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel information system, unpaid earned allowances, delay in the renegotiation of the FGN, NASU, SSANU agreements, and non-payment of minimum wage arrears.

Others include neglect and poor funding of state universities, non-payment of retirement benefits to outgoing members of the unions, and usurpation of the headship of non-teaching units in clear violation of conditions of service and establishment procedures, among others.

The unions like ASUU had also rejected the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System.

Confirming the planned meeting to our correspondent in Abuja, the National President, SSANU, Muhammed Ibrahim, said, “I can confirm that we truly received invitation to meet with the Nimi Briggs committee on Friday. That is official and I can authoritatively confirm that to you.”

Meanwhile, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Education, Ben Goong, in an interview with The PUNCH on Sunday, noted that the ministry would address journalists on Thursday in Abuja.

“The minister will break silence on the issue of strike on Thursday. He will be speaking at the State House. All the issues will be addressed,” he said.

Bro I'm hearing that the strike will continue. No end in sight cause no agreement.
Abeg, wouldn't ASUU be taking the govt proposal to their members?
If so, when will that be?

Do you think the strike might be called off soon

wow ok o.
But I still think the strike wouldn't reach next year. Apc wouldn't risk it with elections coming up next year.
I believe it might just get to end of September or even October and they will call it off.
They understand that millions of students own PVC

I would have loved to agree with you, but the current set of FG do not work with brain! They simply believe in muscle power sad
All the same, I pray along with you that the whole thing does not exceed this year.

If I were to be Tinubu, I'll put pressure on this government to settle ASUU strike because assuredly it will hit him badly if it get to next year.
Imagine 3 million students with PVCs angered by the strike vote against apc.. though there's more students with PVC but lets put it at 3M ...

The govt and Tinubu is really though.
I guess they're depending on rigging where go fail them. They will learn the hard way.
Last lass, Tinubu fans will blame buhari for not doing well when apc does lose come 2023

Just saw that ASUU is saying the govt should pay them for the 6 months they didn't work for? O wrong na. In this case I stand with the fg.

The belief and guarantee that they would always get paid during or after every strike is an incentive for ASUU to always go on annual long vacations in the name of strikes.

We are all fighting against this evil government.
The students have lost and are losing time, which is not recoverable,
I'm sure ASUU won't mind losing a few months salary. Afterall, we are in this together and FG is the villain.

The whole thing is complicated!
If the witheld salaries are not paid, then ASUU will say that whatever was left undone after the strike will never be completed and that they will just start afresh with a new session!
The implication of this may be, for instance, if you just finished your first semester without result, before the strike, then after resumption, your results will never be released and you will then move to second semester or even start a new session and when you finally graduate, your GPA will not cumulate to the minimum for graduation and you will be forced to spend extra year again!
In summary, every Nigerian Federal University students will automatically defer a session embarassed embarassed

The way i understand it is that ASUU want the government to pay them now, during the strike not after they've suspended the strike.

I think it is time for a National reset. As it is, the crazy politicians will miscalculate and allow the Nation slide into a serious revolution as Nigerians are getting frustrated everyday while some people are using 15billion naira to clear bush.

Nooo, I don't think that is it o!
FG wants them to accept the "small" salary increament and then resume work with the salaries of the past six months also forfeited! Meaning they will start collecting salary from when they start work again.

Lol.
I think this is a new one from the government and i doubt if ASUU anticipated anything like this. I'm certain some of them have taken loans/money from cooperatives and banks in the hope to pay back when they get their backlogs of salaries.
This alone is enough to drag the strike till after election, but the incoming President is surely not a messiah either.

The students are the only looser in the whole rubbish game.
If FG pay ASUU, students will loose.
If FG refused to pay ASUU, students will loose!

Yes, either way students can't recover lost time.
I initially doubted the rumored 100% increment in salary though, cos other underpaid unions like NMA are watching keenly. It's left for ASUU to decide if the reported 30% is reasonable enough from their own perspective.
ASUU said FG brought a take it or leave it offer and indirectly passed a message that the longer you stay at home, the more salary you lose.
I think ASUU should just take the 30% increment and FG should pay them the backlog of their salaries, but Adamu said the order not to pay them is from Buhari (a renowned stubborn man and dictator)
I read that ASUU are still doing consultations on their next line of action.

since ASUU continues the strike, this joint people will likely continue too, and round off with ASUU, why calling off when lectures can’t resume anyway? Me thinking for them.

They are different unions and they serve different purposes in the university.
School clinic
Water and electricity
Admission and records (those who are waiting to collect their transcripts)
Security, cleaners
Library etc
Once they call off, all of the above and more will be fully functional in the university communities.
