FG Promised N60,000 Increment In Professors' Salaries – ASUU by Ofunaofu: 6:02am On Aug 20, 2022
Fresh facts have emerged on why the Academic Staff Union of Universities rejected the proposal by the Federal Government.

The PUNCH had earlier reported that ASUU had tagged the offer by the Federal Government as “miserable”. However, the union did not go into some of the details in the proposal.

But the zonal coordinator, Port Harcourt zone, Stanley Ogoun, in a statement made available to The PUNCH noted that the Federal Government noted that it would increase the salaries of professors by N60,000 while other lecturers would have their salaries increased within the range of N30,000 and N60,000.

Ogoun also noted that the government promised to release the revitalisation fund of N170 billion which would be included in the 2023 budget.

“Nigerians should be aware of offers the so-called minister came up with. These are: (a) 170 billion naira for revitalisation in the 2023 budget; (b) a promise to increase by N60,000 the salary of a professor at the bar in next year’s budget; (c) no statement on the amendment of the National University Commission Act gathering dust at the National Assembly (d) payment of two tranches of outstanding Earned Academic Allowance in next year’s budget; (d) a promise to adopt the University Transparency and Accountability Solution; and (e) another promise to release the white papers.”

Speaking further in the statement, Ogoun said, “Imagine the level of deceitfulness by the minister! A promise to fulfill demands in an election year? We did not embark on strike for over six months geared towards improving our public universities only to come back with mere promissory notes from a government that is notorious for reneging on agreements. I’m sure Nigerians would not forgive us.

“On the issue of withheld salaries, and the claim that we do not deserve the salaries. We challenge the government to prove if the unproductive staff of our moribund refineries and other agencies of similar nature are not being paid. They should also justify why unproductive politicians that are responsible for the current comatose state of Nigeria are receiving humongous salaries and allowances. For the avoidance of doubt, teaching is only one of the assignments we undertake as lecturers. It only earns a candidate, going for promotion, a maximum of one point per year. Research and community service are the core requirements for promotion.

“The current move by the Federal Government to jettison the principle of collective bargaining and reduce our Union’s objective and patriotic struggle to revamp and reposition public universities in Nigeria to mere award of miserly salaries, ranging from N30,000 to N60,000 is unacceptable to us.”

The union, however, called on the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu to resign.

Do your calculations and compare it to what Bashir Ahmed was earning as a media aid to Buhari and also as a ghost worker. That alone will show you how insincere this government is.

What becomes of a country without quality and prioritise education for the masses? undecided A major setback for the country because these people you deprive of their fundamental rights will one day come back to cause problems for you. That is why we need to change this ill narrative come 2023. Suffering knows no tribe. Always remember that.

Useless certificate.
All these profs that can't be productive and keep producing unproductive graduates that are only good at looking for salary jobs.

Be smart and be productive in way possible. Be free from the system.

God Punish Buhari, Tinubu and APC for the joke they have turned Nigeria into.

One Illiterate Bashir is collecting over 1 million monthly minus allowances and you are promising Professors 60k on top ordinary 400k to make it 460k.

To shock Nigerians, Local Government Councillors under this cursed APC collect 530k monthly Salary.

ASUU-FG impasse continually meets a brick wall because deception, chicanery and thrives in Govt' veins.

I am ashamed the way governments belabour on Prof's (about 6%-9% of academic staff) salaries alone when in actual fact, this strike is for the entire system.

How can a Graduate Assistant be earning #105-110k

How can an Assistant Lecturer be earning #120k+ even with MSc,

How can PhD, be earning #148k plus.

We had better told ourselves the truth.

Ordinary Bsc. earns 300k in some organisation and some even earn more than profs.

They will write, research and submit publications to journals and pays in dollars out of this salary.

Most will even equip their offices with this same salaries.

When we are ready, let us know

When 2 elephants fight, the grasses will suffer.
I only pity the students, and people whose businesses are affected by the shut down of the schools.

What's 60,000

A young Professor will still not earn #500,000 ...even the older ones will barely crossed #500,000.

Still Nonsense!

If ASUU gree, I repeat, dey are EPA.

When the other thread emerged and I saw children and zombies attacking ASUU , I knew very well most Nigerians on this website where really naive. Education, should be the priority of any country. This education shapes what the future generation will be. These so called leaders benefitted from free education during their time, yet look at what they are doing to this present generation. ASUU is fully in the right here, and deserve an increase in their pay and all. Most of our useless senators, always fight for their pay raise, allowances and even strike in other to be included in the country’s budget, and within the blink of an eye, the government approved their demands. This country is heading towards a terrible future, and this present government is just the worst so far in this country’s history.
