All you need is simple discipline Ma'am. Don't let the device control you be in control of it. Me once I check for prayer, info and whether money dey somewhere to make I don carry phone throwaway somewhere o!
Nothing on earth moves me to the extent way I go let am dey control me. God go help you with the needed discipline.

I was like you, phone addiction is real. You can break it by fixing your mind on something tough but worthwhile you want to achieve. Set your mind to crack the solution at any free time you have.

Do not allow your mind to rationalise or excuse your addiction. And more importantly, get someone close to you to monitor your use of phone.

We're all addicted to our phones and devices, this is exactly what makes u an analog generation.

At this age, stage and level, Reducing the time you spent on your phone might be impossible, but as you get older and a lot busier, you'll understand why your parents hardly spent time with their phones. Responsibilities makes you busy

There are people making millions just by pressing their phones. So, look at the brighter side and put it into good use.

I'm also addicted to my phone but I decided to use it to my advantage. Instead of Chatting on twitter, Facebook, Instagram I register for short courses on Coursera... UI/UX design, Data Analysis, Digital Marketing....etc

Apart from God, Family, Few Friends, Funds and Food, I've always maintain the mantra 'See, If You Can Live Without It'

It's hard when I started but along the line, I discovered that I could go with living with things I consider essential in the first place. So you could actually live without checking those phones or going on the internet for hours.

There's much out there than the virtual prison we've made for ourselves...

Practice switching off your phone sometimes, especially when you aren't expecting calls. Doing so will help to disconnect or break the magnetic-wave-induced-nomophobia cycles.

No wonder you've gat too much spare time dishing propaganda against Messi...

Reading through comments, I wonder why so many people suddenly turned it into a competition, A synonymous traits know with Nigerians, you tell someone your problems and the next you will hear is "Your own better self" while s/he starts telling you the gibberish you don't wanna hear...

Shoodboi:

You are not addicted to your phone. You are addicted to some apps on your phone. Many people don’t know this but many app developers especially social media companies like Facebook, Tiktok, and Snap hire psychologists to socially engineer users to spend more time on their apps.

They develop their apps to stimulate the release of dopamine (the "feel good" hormone) in your body. Dopamine releases when we do things we enjoy (sex, drugs, video games, and of course, using social media).

They back this with powerful algorithms that observe the content you watched/liked and show you more of that content. That's why if you interact with a content from a person, you keep seeing more content from that person and from people (sometimes strangers) similar to that person.

As part of the social engineering process, these social media sites also use things like infinite scrolling (whereby the apps continues loading as you scroll down) instead of requiring you to click to see the next page to further lock you in.

Instagram also uses things like the "Explore" tab, Tiktok uses the "For you" section while Facebook shows you "People you may know" to keep you in their apps. It's not a coincidence that a small part of the photos of the person in the people you may know section shows every single time. It's a subtle hint to force you to scroll left.

All these lead to things like FOMO (fear of missing out), which forces you to check these apps every now and then so you enjoy the latest content as e dey hot and release more dopamine along the way. After spending hours on these apps, you'd then jump to sites like Nairaland to increase your dopamine and also, help you to burn time, so that others would have uploaded new content to the apps you were using.

The solution is simple but technical. Which apps do you use the most? Take note of them, close one eye, and uninstall them. Switch off notifications too. And whenever you find yourself scrolling endlessly again, remember you don’t want to be a victim of social engineering and get out of the apps.

I don't know why this post didn't get much "likes and shares"
