You are right. but its not so much about not speaking in native dialect its more about the youth seeing their native dialects as archaic and british accent as posh, refined and civilized - many african minds have been colonized....

True. That's because many African minds have refused to rise above the status quo.

Take Singapore that was also colonized by Britain. I have never been there, but people who have been there/currently live there, speak of a high sense of self-worth & refinement within themselves amid the rapid advancement of their society.

Personally, I think the problem of Africa lies beyond it's leaders. I feel it's a fundamental human issue with the average African. If you internalize your local language with poor electricity, fuel scarcity, intense tribal bigotry & 'wicked nurses', by default, you will associate another language representing a 'better society' to be posh, refined & civilized...

Exactly, one can watch utube videos, and see their architecture, the beauty of their lands and try to design and even create such places in Nigeria, if they want to, there are no excuses.

While some Nigerians want to show off, and talk about where they went to grin grin grin, so they can feel they are better or more special or have higher class lol, instead of doing something like that in their country, so everyone can experience it and choose better.

exactly brother. very well said grin

There used to be a time wheN the UK was very sweet. i would not even lie to you and that era was the pre- internet days. you see the beauty of the UK back theN was that

1 The world was not yet commercialized. it was strictly about culture and fun aNd having a great time. nobody was worried about money or making lots of it because everything was cheap. and also back in those days you could find like five of us naija guys sharing a flat and it was just fun and party all throughout and like all of us were british citizens back then ( yeah those who used to come pre-internet were mostly british citizens ) so we used to get all kinds of benefits so we didnt really have bills lol. just party life

2 Also what made the UK sweet back then was because there was no internet to tell you what it looked like, so you enjoyed it so much more because its like you are stepping into a world that you have never experienced before. there were no pictures of what to expect and so it wasnt cheapened ( no see finish ). it was all a mystery. now everything is on the internet

3 The caliber of naijas in the uk back then was quality guys and girls. now na every tom dick and harry oooo lol

4 Also the fact that the nigerian market was not open back then and so there was no uk goods in naija and so when we went to naija with our uk clothes everyone looked at us like celebrities. like peoppple would be admiring your uk baffs. of course today there is even no need to go to the uk because everything in the uk can be bought in nigeria now so that aspect of it has also being cheapened. like there are levis and nikes and every shop in the uk in any mall in naija now. like you can be in naija and baff better than someone in the uk now. and so there is no need to go to the uk again. Just buy your baffs in naija and flex

5 Like i said earlier the uk was not commercialized heavily back then but now its all about money. now they can even tax you for the air you breath if they can get away with it. its like the fun has been sucked out of the country and it is now all about survival

6 It has become overpopulated by immigrants from all over the world. its like that unique britishness has being lost.

AND SO BROTHER THE UK WAS ONCE A SWEET PLACE BUT ITS NOW A SHITTY PLACE. LOL. I NEED TO TURN THIS INTO A THREAD LOL AND SO TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION BRO THERE IS NO POINT IN BEING IN THE UK AGAIN IF YOU CAN FIGURE OUT HOW TO LIVE WELL IN NAIJA BECAUSE EVERYTHING IS IN NAIJA. EVERYTHING THAT IS IN THE UK IS IN NAIJA EVEN KFC AND DOMINOS AND NIKE AND APPLE AND POSCHE AND SKETCHERS ETC ETC ETC . SO IF YOU CAN DEVISE A WAY TO EARN POUNDS IN NAIJA, ITS THE PLACE TO BE

You have a point. Africa is catching up with these Western countries little by little. But the speed is very slow due to bad leadership, that is why the likes of China have hijacked the race from them and even now overtaking these Western countries.

What is an economic crisis to westerners is not the same to black Africans. Notwithstanding the economic woes, there are more jobs advertised on UK's LinkedIn than Nigeria's own. Apart from Nigeria and South Africa, I seriously doubt you would see recent jobs in other sub-Saharan African LinkedIns (assuming they it o). Ethiopia, some people were applauding, does not have one. In Bostwana, the most recent job posting is three weeks old. African countries populate the world's unemployment rankings.

Thats the whole point bro. the uk is now the emerging new shithole lol. which beggars the question ? why sell your house in one shithole ( nigeria ) to go become homeless in another shithole ( uk ) ? in the past one year there has been an epidemic of nigerians who sold their houses and quit good jobs in naija and entered uk with like 20 million naira. but these guys went with wives and kids so they cant cut corners. they start renting in london ( 3 bedroom is like 2000 a month ) which is like 2 million naira a month in rent and under a year all their money have run out and they have become homeless. many are sleeping on park benches and in the librarry. so you went from homeowner business executive in naija to sleepping on park bench in uk . these things should be avoided. hear stories from this guy too

Good for them I wish more of them quit their good jobs in Nigeria sell their houses and ended up like a bum on the streets of Peckham, they will all learn the hard way.

People have different reasons for travelling out.
Ordinary citizens OR masses i.e those kind of citizens you had in mind while making that comment can't afford the amount needed to travel out of the country.

You think it is easy for someone to spend millions and liquidate their investments/belongings because they want to travel?

PS: I'm not referring to those thieves o, i.e politicians and co in my last question.

Opinions should be taken with wisdom. It's someone that doesn't know what he wants for himself in life that will swallow this in whole. UK may not work for everyone, of course, but for others, it will the best decision to make.

What a good piece!.
My simple view to this is that opting to leave Nigeria for liberation and betterment of one's life in the UK or anywhere else in the western world at this critical time is the best option, unless you live in Nigeria where the security of your life, those of your family members and property could be certainly guaranteed.

So many Nigerians were living comfortably at home, believing in developing Nigeria with their skills and finances but ended up loosing their lives and loved ones to kidnappers, armed robbers, police brutality and so many other avoidable deaths. Sadly, these lost ones were bread winners of their families, leaving their dependents in eternal sadness. Do you think their family members wouldn't be in regrets presently for failing to have considered Japa in the past?

A professor of Medicine in OAU teaching hospital was killed by kidnappers 2years ago, the widow said she has been telling the deceased to consider their relocation abroad but the husband said he preferred to invest and develop Nigeria.
A 37 years old man left Abuja for his MSC exam in OAU, Ile Ife and was mysteriously killed in November last year in his hotel room at a popular hotel there in Ife, leaving behind a widow with 3 children. The widow recently granted an interview to BBC yoruba that the deceased planned to relocate the family after his MSC.

Just 2 months ago, a young professional was abducted with his mother and young daughter on their way to Abuja from Lokoja, the kidnappers collected millions as ransoms on the 3 of them and eventually killed the young man right before the mother and young daughter. The list is endless, abeg.

Do you think these families amongst so many afflicted ones like them are not currently regretting to have not considered japa than staying back to pursue their goals in Nigeria and eventually loosing their loved ones?

With the current happenings in Nigeria, no amount spent on relocating your whole family abroad to have a new start is wasted. As a matter of fact, there is every likelihood that any investment you put such money into if you choose to stay back in Nigeria would be wasted.

If you choose to japa, simply do so with plans. Expectedly, you can't expect everything to be rosy immediately you get to a foreign country. One must struggle to settle in (accommodation, work, children's schools and so on). A lot of people are comfortable back in Nigeria but the leaders are making home hostile for the commoners and homely for themselves and their families, so why stay back and risk your life.

pointless your example of rubbery, kidnapping are baseless harm and wrong happens world wide

The thing is if a Nigerian travels to the UK and stays in communities with a high influx of Nigerians, you begin to think that that is all there is to it. But you are mistaken.

Then 2021 census states that 14.% of the UK population is foreign born..around 9.5 million out of 70mill and this figure includes other races and not just black or Asian as many are born in Europe.

In total the number of Black people in the UK is still under 3% (Africans & Caribbeans both foreign and UK born ) so don't don't be fooled into thinking Nigerians or even Black people are majority because of the area you live in as that will never be allowed to be the case.
