Why didn't you snap when the leaves are not completely dried up? What made you jump into that conclusion? How can BW affect all the stands, abi na opv u plant? Even hybrid that have no BW resistance should not all look like this . Bros, i suspect an operational error...do you apply nitrogenous fertilizer prior to the issue?

Local breeds saturate the market at the moment. Price will soon pick small when the local ones without irrigation can no longer withstand this rising temp.

fortunately for us northern tomato don't enter, had been it enter last week both we and them would have run to losses. Imagine range between 5k-3k with this inflation. It pick up this Monday, then slide down again yesterday.

Let says it as it is, some are cashing out like seriously with our production here, why some are getting dry. Those that smart are following the trend by repackaging. Some will buy from us and move to South East, South South and Lagos. Some will buy from us and repackage to basket and sell on thesame field.

Next year will be an interesting one cheesy many people will jump inside cheesy the ship, existing farmer will increase production, many will switch from local to hybrid grin. Expect times 4 whatever you see at the moment on (southwest) your field next year. If am ask which one is better between last year and this year in terms of profit and price? I will say last year because materials are not as expensive as this year.

Some are planning to quit their full time job for tomato production wink why some are planning to collect huge loan. My advice,1. if your work is giving you 90k upward every month don't quite yet because anything can happen, what if there is glut? Wait till you master the art of growing and selling! 2. If you are newbie, don't rush to break even! Start small and grow. Anything beyond 2m is beyond if you ask me. Have seeing a lot of millions ENTER BUSH THIS YEAR example, I saw newbie that start by planting 2 hectare of cucumber and over 3 hectare tomato, guess what Both fail. Have seen someone that waste over 10m this year on tomato cultivation.

Baba you have spoken well.
It's not about mastering the art of farming.
Marketing is another aspect most people ignore.
We should learn to spread our market tentacles

senior farmers in the house ,please i would like to ask if this tank (green arrow) can supply enough pressure to irrigate this land of 2 plots(red arrow) just to save cost of having to use generator everyday...the height of the tank is aout 12feets

Pressure is moredependent on gravity than size of the tank.
Try it out but if it doesn't work, use a galvanised pipe and give it more height

Glad to see you rising above your past failure. Please use good seed with good disease resistance this time around, havestf*d seed is not there yet.
To your question, i wl call your attention to 2 things. 1. pressure/height of tank 2. volume/capacity of tank.

1. The higher your tank, the higher the pressure that drives water through the drip tubes. i would have preferred height above 12ft for better result. but if you want to use the 12ft height: (i) you will avoid using filter cos it wil further reduce the pressure. That means your source of water must be very clean. (ii) your offtakers/connectors must have tap/valve, just in case if pressure could not drive water well to the extreme emitters, you will need to close some taps for the others. Tag flowmama to advise further on the suitable height, i think she uses gravity for her drips.

2. What is the volume of the tank? What is the population of the plants you are planting? How many litres of water do you intend to serve each plant?
The motive behind all these questions is for you to know if your tank can supply the needed water per day. For instance if the capacity of the tank is 4000L, and your plant population is 2,500 and you intend serving 2L of water per plant per day....you know the outcome already.

Without thinking twice, it's not enough!
Your tank is likely going to be a 3000L tank, and that's not enough for 2 plots except your plant population is less than 1000 plants...that height is enough as the horizontal distance shown isn't significant to cause challenges... buying extra tanks isn't feasible, cuz structural integrity of the tank stand must be considered to avoid failure...buy a generator if you don't have one, and plan for fuel...there is a reason why dey season farming isn't easy and commodities expensive

Thank you @oluchidelly , I learnt a very important lesson this year...always take advise from actual farmers alone, people that owns a farm and plants what they talk about, there are lot of virtual farmers these days,I was convinced by someone that all hybrid seeds are ok,that was what led to me buying the royal bold f1 variety..it was a total disaster, lost 98% of the plant the bacterial wilt despite buying different fungicides although the few stands was left produced the biggest tomato fruits I've ever seen,I saw fruits weighing between 800g and 1kg they were enormously big and looking like pumpkin but very few..
It wasn't a total tho as i also planted platinum f1 too which did really well from which I recovered all the money I spent and more..

Thanks for your opinion on this issue I really appreciate..I am still gathering Intel.i am scared of having to leave my gen at the farm.

Thank you,I have a generator, but I am yet to get a farm assistant that will stay on site..the person helping me stays in another neighborhood, comes in the morning leaves in the evening ,I don't want to loose the generator to thieves ,they stolen alot from me already..

That's why I hoping I could pump the tank full, use it for like 2 days repump and keep doing so till I get an assistant..my targeted stand is 3.5k -4k

@1st pix, always instruct your helping hands not to pluck unripe fruits as it makes produce look unattractive to the buyers. I guess you were selling at your farm gate, you may not have much issues but if you are to move your produce to the market square, you make have issues selling on time and, at good price. Albeit, good harvest you had there.

during this hot dry season, you need at least 8-10000L of water daily to survive except your farm is fully mulched, then maybe 5000L could take a day or at max 2, depending on the quality of the mulching material and the frequency of irrigation...find a helping hand b4 starting that project, you need like 2 individuals to run a tomato farm of 4k stands efficiently

Try doing a surfaces reservoir using 2by6 woods and tarpolin like what the fish farmers do. A 6by6by 4 reserve Shud hold close to 30kliters of water but the catch is that you need to use a surface pump to distribute ur water to ur drip. That tank of yours will not even effectively water half a plot of tomatoes in this dry season so its not an option because of 1. Size of tank 2. Distance from tank to plot to be used 3. Pipes used are small in size.
