We need better subsidy and welfare systems, subsidize electricity by giving the companies some tax concessions, subsidize food by working with Dangote to supply fertilizers to farmers across the nation, you can also give some tax concessions in exchange for this, build more government hospitals well equiped nationwide, start up cottage industries by working with proffesionals in the field, grant them loans through Bank of industry, so they can expand or create cottage industries across all wards in Nigeria, at least 5 in each ward, employing about 100 workers each, including direct or indirect workers, and impacting the lives of thousands in that ward. Nigeria has 774 wards multiply that with the numbers enumerated above, this is the part to national prosperity and harnessing of our natural resources, and improving the value chain and multiplier effects. Subsidy of fuel has failed, a few are getting rich off it, investors and government must invest more in power sector, create more solar and windmill farms, hydro energy systems, encourage Nigerians and assist in building systems in the micro level, that harness waste into energy...banks should give loans for Nigerians that want to buy solar panels, government should launch solar farms, where solar panels are created in mass production, managed by private firms. 3 Likes |

Most comments before mine were based of blame game, GEJ would have removed subsidy during his regime but hampered by Tinubu sponsored protest, Las las las.... It had happened and there's nothing we can do about it, so let the past be in the past and face the reality that subsidy removal have birthed, expect the best and prepare for the worst. |

I support him in removing the subsidy for the reasons given. I don't agree with his plan to remove it all at once. Many steps can be taken to remove it gradually but at the same time stop the outflow almost immediately. Why not introduce laws to curb smudging? ... harsh punishment for anyone caught smuggling or supporting smuggling? ... as in a fine 25 times the full value of the oil ... confiscation of the vehicle and properties if need be of those involved ... and a mandatory 5 years imprisonment of those involved. This would also include Customs and others who support the smuggling. If this is enforced.... not many would take the risk. |

Redoil: Leadership sometimes is not all about provision Bread & Tea... Sometimes you must have the courage to sometimes serve something bitter but yet benefitial. Yes there was opposition to the removal of subsidy in 2012 just like there will be this time again in 2023.. Wether or not BAT will cowed eventually like GEJ did in 2012 will determine how courageous each of the two Leaders are. But something tells me we gonna have to deal with this served bitter leave for now. 2 Likes |

Fuel subsidy remover has come to stay as we also support it. Let us all face it together if it's hardship it brings to them. |

THeUNIFIER: how is nigeria subsidizing fuel for neighbouring countries? i will really like to know. are u aware that since IBB administration, they have always used this story about neighbouring countries to increase price of fuel saying that it will stop diversion of products? did it stop diversion of products? is this not a case of doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result which is known as insanity? |

Mynd44: Something GEJ saw and they ganged up against him. They should have built refinery before doing this removal. Now that they've removed it, any alternative? It's the masses that will suffer. Transportation has a lot to do in cost of living. Watch how prices will go up in speed. I'm not against the removal, but what is on ground for the masses ? Minimum wage is still 30k, You're taking subsidy away, what did you bring to the table before taking it away? No train 🚂 connecting NSEW, now flight tickets will increase. What is their plan? Are they relying on Dangote? What a shame |

Na riddle me this, what do you think will happen to prices of goods and commodities in these coming weeks? Have you been outside since yesterday and see what people are going through? If you want to start a building project, you lay a foundation, you just don't start from the window level or decking... I Sabi say u go ban me, no be new thing. Exactly. These marketers would get unnecessary subsidy for the refined fuel and pocket the huge money but at the same time, would go sell these subsided fuel to other countries to get more money. Greedy mofos reaping us blind. The oil blocks owners aren't exempted either. All of them are siphoning our crude oil and selling it to other nations. Most of these oil block owners are affiliated with these greedy marketers who both steal us blind! That's why I insist that these oil block owners must be given criterion of having pump stations or linked to pump stations selling at regulated cheap prices for the masses or get the Fvck out of the oil blocks! They're helping no one. Bunch of thieves! If the oil blocks owners are put in check, they will be the one checking the marketers themselves because they know these marketers! |

Redoil:Are some of you not tired of this delibrate falsehood? Was it only ApC that opposed subsidy removal in 2012? ... All the people who protested all over the states in Nigeria in 2012 and even during the times when OBJ tried to remove subsidy, were they also APC? Can you swear on your life and the lives of your family members that you supported the sudden 120% increase in pump prices from N65 to N142 in 2012? |
