Dr Simi Sola Of NHS Resigns After 20 Years by seunmsg(m): 11:28am On Jul 11, 2023
After working in the NHS for 20 years, I decided to leave my permanent role as Partner to create more capacity in my life to contribute to health systems development in the two countries that have made the most impact in my life personally and professionally.
Nigeria educated me almost for free. My colleagues racked up hundreds of thousands of dollars to become doctors, Nigeria made me a doctor for next to nothing. Handed me over to the United Kingdom for my higher training and leadership development, which are invaluable. From NHS Top Leaders programme to the accelerated director development scheme and many more.
Apart from work, these countries looked after my health in my most difficult moments. I have had surgeries in both countries and been well cared for.

My mission is to continue to work across these two countries who are special in their own ways.

I am open to health systems development work in these two countries only.

I opened this thread purposely to pass a message to those who constantly barrage the country with insults and negativity and see no good in her.

A lot of us have similar stories to this lady. We got educated to the highest level almost for free but still have nothing positive to say about the country. Some of them will even boldly say Nigeria has done absolutely nothing for them.

Good enough, people like Dr. Simi are trying to change the narratives. She’s coming back home to serve and give back to a country that made her a medical doctor almost for free. We need more patriots and optimist like her.

Nigeria may not be where we want her to be but being perpetually negative and denying the benefits we’ve received from the country is definitely not the way to go. With positive energy and a deep and patriotic commitment to the country, Nigeria will start flying in just a matter of years.

All the best to Dr. Simi as she returns to serve her Father’s land.

As if your tribalism is making the country good. When he comes back here same thing that kept him in Uk will chase him out again.

A typical Nigerian tribe that always paint outside their house to look nice for passerby but inside is full of excrete.

This is not a thread for tribal fights. This is a thread to encourage patriotism and the can do spirit of Nigerians. It’s a thread to promote our belief in the country. I have no other country other than Nigeria and I want the best for her irrespective of political affiliations. You need the the same mindset. Let’s leave the APC vs PDP/LP out of here, please.

Hmmmm...

It's a common knowledge, Nigeria's education is highly subsidized...yes, we can talk about infrastructure decay and low standard as compared with what is obtainable in developed countries...our graduates still compete very well in any part of the globe they found themselves.

We can keep talking down on government, especially, due to high level of unemployment and underemployment...but for those very one that have been fortunate to escape this country to a greener pasture, when you don arrive...no forget Nigeria...give back to the very country that has given you a very key foundational platform.

God bless Nigeria

Yes o. Don't mind them.

Most of them went to school but remain largely uneducated.

How can you attend a Government owned Tertiary Institution and say Nigeria has done nothing for you.

I know some people that paid a Total Tuition of less than N200,000 for a 4-year undergraduate programme.

Do you Guys know the actual cost of such programme if not subsidised by the Government?

Dull people

She served in the Uk, so UK made her, she should have served at LUTH and see how far she would have gone!
Nice decision though and to that mumu Seunmsg , she might have benefited from a scholarship, I dont know where people pay next to nothing in this country. I have colleagues in school and education is not FREE

When was Nigeria “handling” people over to UK for free?

“Handed me over to the United Kingdom for my higher training”.

I understand your point and appreciate the fact that you are trying to let Nigerians see the good part of the country.

Meanwhile, I'll like you to help with two clarifications:

1. With your own personal experience, how were you educated in Nigeria 'almost for free'?

2. With the system on ground as at date in Nigeria, do you think Dr Simi will be able to fulfil her utmost and wishful mission?

Thanx for anticipated sincere response

Patriotism for someone who had 20 years of her career in the UK? she could have come to serve UCH or LUTH as early as 5 years in her career. This same you will castigate nurses who plan to leave the shores by shouting brain drain and JAPA syndrome.

I went to university for less than 100k naira. Today people who spent 35k to 50k dols for their education are working under me. When people say Nigeria has done nothing for them, they are being disingenuous. I have siblings who went to private schools and schooled abroad too. It wasn’t easy for my parents compared to my own cheesy

Same thing with fuel subsidy removal. You hear people say Nigeria has done nothing for them, now when subsidy was removed, they now start crying.
If you claim Nigeria has done nothing, is that subsidy not something that has been done for you all these years.

Health and education are 2 areas that are heavily subsidized in this nation. Go to any public hospital in Nigeria and see the number of people there. Even private hospital will refer patients there when things get out of hand in their own facility.

I appreciate Nigeria a lot o, personally. The problem is that people would rather you join them to complain otherwise they will accuse you of gaining something from the government and start wishing you evil so that they can say I told you so.
