Have You Ever Considered Quitting Social Media? by Smile4mee01: 3:42pm On Sep 13, 2023
If you are a youth, you are probabaly on one or two social media platforms.i.e Instagram , Facebook, Tik tok, twitter etc I rarely watch TV these days.

I recently saw the hours I spent on each social media app last week and was concerned. Just like dopamine, it's becoming irresistible to surf the internet doing nothing.

It does appear to me SM especially IG, tik tok is saturated with scantily Dressed women seeking attention, some just dancing away. Low budget bloggers pasting thier opinion on every matter, some giving advice to people not seeking it. Not so funny skits, after which you watch it you regret wasting your data. The desire to trend at all cost. As in it's kinda endless

If you spend 24hrs/day with free wifi it's not enough to view the content being pushed out daily. Are we losing focus on what's important and helping these influencers and skit makers to relevance.

I even heard of a student who quit university to join Onlyfans.

Before you come at me, I know there has been some good from social media but the opportunity cost with respect to time on those app is alarming.

Please for those who have quit social media, Has your life been better for it?

as long as youre in the information age you cant completely be a monk. you can only regulate how you spend your time and select the news you want to absorb.

Well said. I agree with you. That's why I said social media not internet. There is a lot to benefit from the internet as a whole. Books, classes etc

But that algorithm is strong. Once you view one slutry picture or video, it sends many more to you.

Like you said, one has to be disciplined enough to absorb what one really wants.

I would have restricted the time I spent on Social Media and not quit if It was not part of my job.

It depends on what you do on and with your social media accounts.

We make legit money in foreign currencies with the companies we work for online,
So talking about quitting is just like talking of quitting your job.

Do the right thing with your social media accounts and live a good life.

We Rise.

I did. I did consider deregistering my account with nairaland. This was caused by a moderator that picked me out. He was always banning me for just no cause. He has placed a perpetual ban on my previous account. I left that for him. He might trace me to this.

Yes, always.

Infact I hate social media, especially Twitter and Instagram. Too fake! I've never been on tiktok so I don't even know what it looks like beyond what I read online. People go on these platforms to seek some kind of validation about who or what they are.

I am on those two platforms currently just to broaden my job search. Once I get a job, I'm off.

As for Facebook, that one died a long time ago.

I like WhatsApp because you only get to connect with your real folks, not some random people forming woke.

Nope.
Am not addicted. I have so much control over it. I don't even have tiktok and twitter app on my phone. I rarely visit Facebook and Instagram.
I usually visit nairaland often to read news and comment once in a while. Though this forum is toxic, I try to focus more on the positive than the negative. Regular member on Reddit, Quora and BHW .
And lastly I love YouTube.

Never thought of quitting. I love the way I rule over it.

Not when it fetches one money. Only those that use it to showcase or view fake lifestyle. Listen to gossip and other unproductive uses.

Yes,I've considered it.
I took the decision at a time that was my low.

Its been one of my best decisions as I came to the realization of a lot of things.

Although I'm back on it but I haven't posted in a year, I just scroll through

Simply Respect the Rules of the forum and you should be fine.

But you may be right in some way about someone picking on you though....
Let's say no more.....

Whalis:

I understand all the rules. The moderator just wanted to flex muscle just like when PG students invigilate undergraduate exams.
The issue is ethnical. I believe the moderator was angry because I refused to accept what he said I was.
We understand better now.
You may be right.
We can relate.
