They are pursuing right course with stupid approach. Taking the issue to court will not help reconstruct that ill-conceived thought about Tiv people and culture. They should have embarked on a large scale cultural orientation and enlightenment through means made possible by the new media. What happens to cultural films, documentaries, theatre and book writing on Tiv culture in relation to women, bride and marriages?. Even social media comedy can help reconstruct that view within a limited period of time

If they know how powerful the media is in shaping idea, opinions and believe, they will not be fooling themselves visiting court. Most of th e negative opinions held on prostitution, ritualism, vodoo etc, held about some Nigeria tribes were constructed by the media (films in particular). The media can construct as well as reconstruct opinions.

and the story of Yoruba women. There was this thread made on what some twitter user had to say about Yoruba women. Some days you get online and see how folks denigrate other ethnic group and ethnicity, inflammatory statements which quickly can spiral out of control if not checked can disturb and unsettle an already rattled co-existence. This move is key and can be far reaching and there are laws binding the usage of social media. So whatever anyone gets online to postulate that person also should be able to prove this at the court of law. Nigerians have been known to be abusive to certain priviledges and i am of the opinion as long as there is freedom of speech, there also must be parameters in place to check against falsehood and false narrative and anyform of sponsored attack against a person, group or people.

There are issues that must be substantiated at the court of law to set a precendence. That is the best and only solid foundation to curb misinformation, libel or slander. No matter the information campaign, if it is not backed by a law with consequences, some Nigerians will never desist from smear campaign or falsehood.
