Nigeria has canceled the visit of Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala and his business delegation at the eleventh hour, citing its government's inability to provide an adequate reception to them.

However, the Czech media reported on Tuesday that the Nigerian government's refusal on Monday, just one day before Fiala and his business delegation visit, is linked to Prague's pro-Israel stance in the UN on the ongoing Israel-Palestine armed conflict.

The Nigerian government has informed them that it is unable to provide a proper reception and program for Fiala and his business delegation.

Based on this, they decided to cancel the visit, Czech government spokesman Vaclav Smolka told journalists in Nairobi, Kenya's capital, where they arrived after visiting Ethiopia, according to Irozhlas news outlet.

The prime minister and his delegation were scheduled to arrive in Nigeria on Tuesday for a two-day official visit.

However, Irozhlas cited diplomatic sources in its report, stating that Nigeria's move may be related to the Czech government's overt pro-Israeli policies, as Israel faces growing global criticism.

It added that the Czech Republic, along with the US and Israel, was one of 14 countries that voted against the UN General Assembly resolution calling for an immediate humanitarian cease-fire in Gaza on Oct. 27.

Israel launched air and ground attacks on the Gaza Strip following a cross-border attack by Hamas on Oct. 7.

At least 10,328 Palestinians, including 4,237 children and 2,719 women, have been killed. The Israeli death toll, meanwhile, is nearly 1,600, according to official figures.

Besides the large number of casualties and massive displacements, basic supplies are running low for Gaza’s 2.3 million residents due to the Israeli siege.

I am not sure we have taken strong positions on the war like South Africa, to recall Ambassadors or prevent leaders of pro-Isreal nations from visiting Nigeria. If that is the case, we will not host the German Chancellor last week. Germany doesn't only support Israel, it exports a lots of military hardware to Israel which Isreal is using to kill thousands of defenceless babies, children and women in Gaza. I don't know why the visit was canceled, but it's definitely not because Tinubu isn't around. This is not a family visit. Country leaders don't just meet up randomly. Except for emergencies, the countries Tinubu will visit in the next six months are all scheduled already. This same applies to the Prime Minister. The aides of these two leaders have had series of meetings before now to agree on when it's convenient for both of them to meet in Nigeria. The security arrangements have been made long before now. There's nothing like "I wanted to come, but since you're in Saudi Arabia, maybe next time". There's a higher probability that Tinubu went to Saudi because his meeting with the Prime Minister was canceled, thereby creating some space in his calendar.
