You are charged based on the amount of energy (Kilowatts) you consume, not by time.
Tenant A only have laptop, phone, standing fan and 3 energy bulbs. While tenant B has fridge, AC, Tv, etc. If both recharge 3,000 naira same day, tenant B owns will finish before tenant A.

Actually, the charge is based on energy consumed (kW) PLUS the amount of time the consumption lasted (h). That's the reason the charge is measured in kiloWatt/hour (kWh).

One thing people don't know is that, whenever you get a prepaid meter and you are having an outstanding balance on your old meter bill, their is a percentage they will be removing when you are buying your token till you clear all your outstanding balance from the old meter.
For instance, a new building with a new prepaid meter you can't compare the unit with building that as been paying bills before that has balance and got a prepaid meter.

20k would give you a little over 300 units.

So 6k should give you about 90 something units, and 1k would be between 15-18 units.

I'll recommend you load 6k. So with 90 something units, and all the appliances you mentioned, it should carry you for over 2 weeks depending on how constant power supply is in your area.

1k is 10 units in my area as at today. grin grin grin

U add the wattage of all ur appliances,
The higher the wattage of ur appliance, the more u pay, so....reduce the mumber of appliance, if ur light bulbs are 10-50watts , change them to 3-5watts
Re: How Do I Calculate My Prepaid Meter by safejo: 12:45pm On Jan 23
I will start by saying electricity distribution has been split into bands
Band A = 20 to 24hrs
Band B = 16 to 20hrs
Band C = 12 to 16hrs
Band D = 8 to 12hrs
Band E = 4 to 8hrs daily
So the tariff on each of this bands varies

If you are on band E your tariff per kilowatts is about 48naira

While on band B is 96 naira

So your consumption and the band you fall into determine how fast your unit is consumed

To manage your unit always unplug any gadget not in use and always switch off you bulb during the day and avoid ppl coming to charge their gadget in your shop.

Don't ask me I work there.

You don't have appliances that consume too much power. No fridge, AC and no pressing iron. 1K can get you about 13 units which can last for a week. Do the remaining maths.

Never! Addition of just the appliances he listed above can sum up to 1kw, all of them. Using them for 1 hour is 1 kwh which is 1 unit. And this is someone who would on most of these appliances from morning till night. He will be using up to 10 units on day with stable power supply

Lol...I used to load 6k before, then upgraded to 20k.

6k was giving me about 96 units. Now 20k is giving me about 309 units.

This means that 1k would give you a little over 15 units. And for the records I use IE (Ikeja electric)

Yours is obviously different.

In Abakaliki EEDC gives 10 units for 1k. Prices differ. Which Disco are you using?

You'll need a bit of physics though.

You need to know your kw/h rate and what phcn changes you for 1kw.

Then take your meter readings for a time duration and find your hourly kw average.

From that, you can estimate how much electricity you consume per hour and how much it costs.

NB: You can only arrive at an estimate cos your usage is not constant

Go to the body of all the appliances connected to your meter.
Tabulate the voltage (v) and current rating(amp) or wattage (watt).
Tabulated it here and I will help you out.

Take note of your unite left in the beginning of he day, when all your appliance are engaged, then take note of what you have left in the night. then what you have is what you have consumed out of your loaded money or unit.
Re: How Do I Calculate My Prepaid Meter by abdulwasee(m): 1:35pm On Jan 23
Take the reading on your meter first thing before putting on any of your appliances, then put on whatever you need to use at any moment and then, take the reading again after the close of business and everything off.
Finally, subtract the first reading from the last reading. You're good to go.

Whatever the answer, cest'un I amount d'energie utilise!🤓

1004 flats in VI pay heavily for electricity. Someone that stays there told me that electricity is almost 24 hours, so they pay over 100k per month. They use EKEDC. This same EKEDC sells 200 units for 7k for people living in Lekki 2.

The pic below is the one a friend sent to me over 2 weeks ago when I doubted him and told him that 7k cannot give him 200 units. He bought 200 units for 7k.

Do you know that the same 7k of EKEDC would give you less than 100 units in places like surulere in the same Lagos?

Electricity prices in Nigeria differs from place to place.

The price of a unit is not the same. When you purchase a power token, you will see the price per unit.

Before you calculate how much you consume a day, inspect all your wire connection to be sure no one is tapping from you.

How to check your daily consumption: Example: if you purchased 100 units, check the balance of your credit when closing for the day. Minus the balance from the units you previously loaded. The difference is your daily consumption.
grin the inspect wire connection for tapping got me laughing

Take your readings every 1hr and calculate the average. That gives you your average consumption. Multipy whatever you get by the rate phcn give and multiply by the average number of hours you spend in a day to find out your daily consumption.

Check out the phcn rate from a phcn bill from someone within your neighbourhood. The rate is always written on the bill.

6k is not up to 90 something sir. It's about 78
Nazgul:
20k would give you a little over 300 units.

So 6k should give you about 90 something units, and 1k would be between 15-18 units.

I'll recommend you load 6k. So with 90 something units, and all the appliances you mentioned, it should carry you for over 2 weeks depending on how constant power supply is in your area.

About how many units you'll be consuming per day, it would be difficult for me to estimate it cos my appliances are different from yours. You'd have to monitor the meter by yourself. When you open for sales, check the units. And after closing for the day, check it again. If it was 97 units when you opened, and dropped to 90 or 88 when you closed. You would be able to calculate how many days/weeks the 90 units should last. And remember to move your change over to gen or neutral before locking up so you won't burn more units over night.

But note that your calculations wouldn't be accurate cos NEPA would definitely size power at intervals. Meaning you can use 8 units today and maybe 2 or 3 units the following day. Just bear it in mind that 6k should carry you for 2-3 weeks regardless of how constant power supply is in your area. That way you'll know how to budged money for units.

unit prices differ by area and company.

The cost of your units is indicated on your printout when u recharge at a POS. to determine how many units you will consume, check your remaining units after each day over a period of one week. find the average daily consumption and use that as your basis

How to reduced consumption?

Q1: I need an estimate like How many units can I be consuming per day?

Ans: This depends on how much of your appliances you are using and how much of power availability you have.

Q2 How much is unit?
Ans Nigeria operates a SBT (Service Based Tariff) model for electricity tariff. In other words, each feeders are placed on different bands (A-E), the band of the feeder supplying you determines your tariff. The unit cost of energy for each band is different for each DisCo. Ask your DisCo for this information.

Q3. Does the price of unit same with all provider?
Ans No. I gave a brief explanation in response to Q2 above.

Q4. How can I be able to know what I consume to avoid been cheated?
Ans
That is the work of your meter. To allow you use the amount of energy you purchase. If you buy 10KwH unit of energy, it means you can't use more than 10kwH unit. You can also have a check meter to see your actual consumption. Furthermore, if you do your load analysis, you can simply tell how long your purchased unit can last.

Q5 How to reduced consumption?
Ans Very simple, turn off any device you are not using. The meter accounts for every current flowing through all your devices, even the pilot lamp on your sockets grin. So simply turn off any electrical appliances/load (bulb, sockets, fan etc) you are not using.
Secondly, start using energy efficient devices. Change your incandescent lamps to energy saving bulbs, use energy saving monitors, e.t.c.

I hope my answer helps you.
