Goodenoch: Playing devil's advocate: An explanation could have been sought and provided via Teams or email or even whatsapp ,which could be used as evidence in court to prove that it was spurious in nature. What if the employee had been admonished via teams etc so there was evidence of a warning e..g "please try to make every effort to attend the team meeting in the future or let us know in advance" Witnesses could also be brought in to corroborate the employer's account. It's not necessarily a black and white victory for the employee. And the reality is that most employees do not have the capacity to take an employer to court for various reasons, so the employer can easily get away with a less than kosher reference. However, I agree that it could turn into a legal headache which is partly why larger organisations don't do detailed or subjective references - not worth the hassle or risk. |

Zahra29: Yes sure if you have written records of warnings, that could fly. Hidden grievances will not. That's the whole point I've been making to OP. |
Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by Viruses: 12:26pm On Feb 19 |
Goodenoch: Yes...I could be silent about it and mention it in references, after all I am not supposed to withhold information I think should be useful to the body requesting the reference. I agree that vast majority of employers stick to the template you have mentioned just as vast majority of employers request references from previous not current employment. So this also could be one of the minor cases where an employer could decide to go detailed and bring up minor but valid and variable issues. |

Have you read this link at all. Nothing in this link allows you to do this. Why am i dragging this? This thread comes in the top Google searches for issues affecting Nigerians in the UK. I wouldn't want any of our people to get the wrong impression that this is okay to do to people or to have it done to them Viruses: 1 Like |

Viruses: Even in Nigeria you can't do that in Some companies. For everything you term as an offence, there must be an action that follows. If there is no action you can't term it as an offence. If someone is always coming late for meeting, you must tender evidence of how you had a conversation regarding their attitude to work. If people start marking offence like the way you intend to do who will stand. That will be same as saying "I am talking to you and you are breathing" cos I may not like it that you breath while talking to you. I expect any of my assistants I talk to to collapse. A good appraisal system is meant to spot that and u people have a conversation around it. If not, it shows you have an axe to grind. 1 Like |

Zahra29:And was never talked about during appraisal meeting? It cannot hold water. If you like bring team evidence and they ask you to bring appraisal evidence. They find out the appraisal is saying something else, the person will go down for it. |

A new statement of changes to the immigration rules was laid today which formalises the new policies and clarifies how the March 11 ban on care dependants will be implemented, with exceptions made only for children born in the UK to a care worker to enable them regularise their stay. Those already on the route are not affectedπ Changes relating to care workers and senior care workers on the Skilled Worker route 5.12 As announced by the Home Secretary on 4 December 2023 changes are being made to tighten the Health and Care Worker route for Skilled Workers sponsored as care workers or senior care workers (occupation codes 6145 and 6146), in response to high levels of non-compliance and worker exploitation and abuse, as well as unsustainable levels of demand. In the year ending September 2023, 83,072 visas were granted for care workers and a further 18,244 visas for senior care workers, comprising 30% of all work visas granted. In addition, there were 250,297 visas granted for work-related dependants, 69% of which were for Health and Care Worker dependants. 5.13 These changes: β’ Narrow the eligibility for workers to be sponsored in these occupation codes in England from all jobs to only jobs where the sponsor is registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and is currently carrying on a regulated activity (this does not affect the eligibility of jobs in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland); and β’ Remove the provision for dependants to accompany or join workers sponsored in these occupation codes (other than providing for children born in the UK to regularise their stay). 5.14 Transitional arrangements are being applied for Skilled Workers who have applied on the route and are sponsored in these occupations before these changes come into force. These arrangements allow them to apply to extend their permission with the same sponsor, and settle, without the CQC regulation requirement applying to them. They also allow such individuals to be accompanied or joined by dependants, including in cases where they change jobs to another sponsor who meets the CQC regulation requirement. 1 Like |

Hello everyone, I have a question, my bro and his wife have been with us since they came in September. I found out they already registered to vote on our address without asking or informing us. They don't pay council tax or rent I cannot find a way to remove them, will this be an issue for us? Since it's just two people we said are living in the house?. Thank you. 1 Like |

'Register to vote' is basically to allow them vote (which can be updated when they move). You wouldn't pay more if more than two adults are living there. Fi egbon / aburo si le o make him vote .. . We need the numbers ToshoTosin: 3 Likes |

ToshoTosin: Doesn't affect you from a council tax standpoint. The only issue could be with your landlord seeing you have more people than stated living there but their voter registration has nothing to do with that. I understand how you might be worried, but you don't need to be. 4 Likes |

How are they comfortable enough to be staying with you without plans to look for their own apartment?, π...Me I won't be that comfortable though as I would feel the guilt of not contributing to the rent or running of the house even without being prompted to do so. Good afternoon fams, Trust ya'll are doing great. I greet everyone. My friend needs help, kindly read and advise. This incident happened in Sept 2022. Shortly after, My insurance company requested I pay Β£4,335 for repairing a car that I never had impact with, I reported to FOS a long time ago but lately, FOS claimed they do not have jurisdiction on the matter since the second Final response from the insurance company was not submitted within the β6months ruleβ. The claimant presented a video that showed no damage to the said car. They canceled my policy and made me pay the remaining pro-rated amount on the policy which was 3 months old. I paid the remaining 9 months for nothing just to avoid issues. Only for them to come back after 1 month claiming they have settled the claim and I will be responsible 100% for the damages after they took the total policy charges. I never had any impact with the car. They claimed a scrapping sound was heard in the video sent to me as evidence, but the details of the repair they did show otherwise. They said they replaced the car bumper and painted it, and how on earth will that be 4k+. While I was still in discussion with them, they passed the case to Debt Recovery which I explained I was not going to make any comment until the insurance company was able to present the video evidence. They later passed it on to a Law firm who contacted and I explained all that happened and why I was not pleased with the amount claimed to have been spent. The law firm now are requesting Β£4,335 since the Financial Ombudsman has told me they do not have jurisdiction due to the 6-month rule. Just want to get advice on what next to do as I do not have the financial capacity to pay such an amount while the Law firm now threatens with a court case. |

Bourne007:I like the 'we need the numbers' part. Every legal means of making the numbers effective should be utilized. UK is a powerful country and we need to have more Africans contributing to its greatness. I admire the Asians that appears to be predominant in almost everywhere you turn, and they are doing this 'codedly'. I will be proud to see more Kemi Badenoch in exalted positions in both public and private sectors. |
