At the end, 70% of them are leaving the country. It doesn't benefit their region or the country. Nothing in this country is geared towards the overall benefit of the country because of bad leadership that has diminished any sense of patriotism among Nigerians. Our education system should be purpose driven for the overall development of the country. Sadly, corruption and nepotism will continue to embolden people to ply their trades outside the shores of the country.

I don't really care about your previous comments.

I am a Dr, so I should know a bit more about this.

Quota for admitted medical students per University is usually about 150.

Anybody admitting multiples of that is doing mago-mago and the students suffer it in the end.
The school will sometimes lose it's accreditation or the students are forced out or delayed.

Yup

South West have been leading for decades, not leading for One or two years is not going to erase south west leads, besides the statistics was about admission, graduation could paint another story.

There was a time Yoruba lost the mantle in Nollywood before making a come back recently.

This is also the numbers of doctors and Dentists in Nigeria by zone according to the same Statisense

Check admission list of UNN for 2024 you will not see a single yoruba man there. Now Check the admissions list of U.I,Convenant,OAU and Unilag and count the numbers of Igbo there.

You are a Dr?
Okay...?
I will just try to believe you for a microsecond

So if the best Universities are in the S.West why would the Yorubas have to go look for what 'didn't lost?'

By your logic, if Nigerians are flocking to Ghana to study and no Ghanians are coming here, means we are superior?
🤣

You can do better.

Are u also counting over bloated number that UNN are admitting to study medicine? So u are counting the money induced numbers that UNN used to admit as part of the medical intake. The last I know, the number of quota for medicine there is less than 180, where did they come about 500 for medicine and 120 for dentistry. I learnt from some of their students that even with 200 in utme, u can gain admission to study medicine and dentistry so far u can pay. Even university of Ibadan with the highest quota don't admit as such. Let's see where MDCN come in.
funnily, 20% of SE students are from UNILAG. Lady and UI under merit list while other 15% are ftom ss, north and other sw states. This statistics are not just se students living in se but living in any part of Nigeria. 30% of medical students in this three states are of se origin and got in tru merit list.
If quota is removed from state universities in the north and west, I bet you will see 60% of medical students in sw state universities from se alone. This is the power of DOT, lol

These numbers does not reflect the true statistics.

In FMC abakaliki, Ebonyi state where I work, the number of medical students exceeds 300. I mean one level(like 300L). Now 99% of the students are actually igbos.

My neighbor, a nursing student, their class is well over 500 (just 4th year). I once helped my landlord to do exam invigilation of law students, 100L. It took 3 big halls to continue them. 98% igbos.

We don't have or keep data in this country and its sad.

You realise NUC gives each University a quota for admission and graduation?

Bragging about fraudulent activities going on shows you know little about the system.

Lol what is the meaning of this nonsense. What matters is how many actually graduated and get inducted into medical profession.

The best university in Nigeria with best facilities and best lecturers throughout the continent which is UI wont admit more than 15O students but one agulu university in that region will admit 500 in a dubious way and they think its an achievement. Funny people grin

All you have written is based on hearsay.
I know UNN, like OAU, admits a lot of medical students, but use the 2nd MB exams to weed the number to those who truly deserve to study medicine and surgery. Also, standards were also very high back then when I was at UNN as I knew some medical students who had to change to other courses of study as they could not pass the 2nd MB exams, even though they had parents who were lecturers in the Medical faculty.
So what you are saying about getting admitted with a score of 200 to study medicine at UNN is an absolute fallacy.
UNN graduates call themselves Lions and Lionesses because they know the worth of certificates they were awarded and this cannot be rubbished by unsubstantiated allegations of tale bearers.

OAU has never admitted 500 medical students!

Never!

Do you know that those schools in the South East will be so scared now? Medical and dental council of Nigeria have allocated slots for medical students from each school. The capacity of the south eastern schools is the least. They admitted so many students that won’t graduate just to collect the money. They are over subscribed. It is fraud . It is nothing to celebrate. This is one of the reasons for poor educational standards in Nigeria.

I know you will still argue with nonsense. By the way, I graduated in a Nigerian medical school and I was the national president of the then NIMSA ( Nigerian medical students association) so I’ve been to practically all the medical schools in Nigeria
my presido you don talk finish, I'm in my finals in the east, here the admission is terrible overbloated.

That's under merit for SE students admission in sw schools. While SE universities are highly competitive with more qualified students, they tend to look for admission in sw and northern universities where they are able to be admitted under merit. Their sw counter rarely apply se universities because of fear of competition. Remember those Sch you mentioned are federal and private uni. The day sw uni will open up on merit, they will see influx of se students dominating in their state universities. Igbos are naturally born to take advantage of their opportunities with both hands.

If genuinely everyone gets MBBS on the appropriate route. Then we would see a great list.

If you see how IGBOS pay so hugely for a slot here in one of the North-Central States University. It's quite sad. Not only are they cheating the quota system, they are taking away directly what belongs to qualified poor indigene students who merit the process.

Igbinedion University used to admit up to 1000 medical students some years back.

Does that mean they have better indices than UI who admit only 1/5th of that?

There are standards to this things.

If they like, they should admit 10,000
...how many people graduated in the end?

It's not about quantity tis about quality, School in South West admit lesser amount of student in medical department for the sake of quality learning. It's not easy to gain admission in medicine in South West compare to other regions.
Don't forget that there are considerable amount of yorubas in uni ilorin in kwara state and probably in kogi state which will not be accounted for.

is not a matter of crying here on nairaland, SE dominates all their 5 states and still have maximum metit in all federal universities and private universities in Nigeria. As I said, UNILAG, OAU etc has at least 15 to 30% of their students from SE. This is under Merit list meaning the 15to 20% top scorers of admitted students. As you say, no other proper universities aside of UNN, okay, that said, they will definitely rule your states where there are proper universities.may be that's while the three premier universities and institutions : Yaba tech, unilag, ui are all pioneered by Igbo vc’s,

Presently, covenant university se population would soon be more than the people of that region. There are more higher institutions in sw but Igbos are trouping there and soon will. …,,,,?

The difference here is that the Igbos are 97% in charge in their region due to high competition and they are taken seizable percentage in every other region esp sw and ss. They reduced that of the ne and nw due to banditry and are strong in nc.

Other true federalism and merit, 40% of SW universities and 80% northern uni would have been of SE ORIGIN.

We are talking of universities that are accredited to offer medicine as a course but some haters are here justifying their lagging behind the SE educationally by citing my great Alma mater, the UI. In UI, about 40% of the student population is Igbo ditto for every other major university in the SW but you cannot say the same with the major universities in the SE where you only have less than 5% Yoruba student population

If a Yoruba and Igbo were to seek admissions into a Sokoto university, the Igbo would need a higher cut off markers cos Igbos are the highest scorers in the country.

If you check very well the numbers of IGBO that are registered in other states outside their geopolitical areas may be higher than that of the entire North combined.
Igbos often chose to seek admission outside their states and geopolitical zones due to competition, high cutoff marks and the state they reside. Igbos are known to be travellers and seldom do they stay in their respective states.
