Thanks tzetzefly, what about my monthly income, do u think is ok for someone who wants to travel outside Nigeria for a vacation

You have 1.4m saved up, and your monthly income is net 145k, a little kid and family expenses to take care of. I presume your wife works?

Budget itinerary for a single traveller to NewYork :

US Flights >>> #211,838 (Emirates for June)
Hotel >>> #102,120 (7days)
Transport >>>#31800 (7days)
Expenses >>> #60390 (7days)
Shopping >>> #70000

Do the maths.....wink

You should show ties to your home country in the form of paid employment, marriage, kids, assets etc.

With these and not showing you desperately need the visa during interview, you're good to go....

FrontPageLawyer: @Tzetzefly. Please how do i book a hotel reservation without using a credit card?

Or can i contract you in doing this?

Thank you great guy

You need a valid credit card to book an accomodation in western countries or you can get in touch with genuine travel agents.

Few good ones abound in Nigeria....

Hi all, I was at the american embassy today in lagos. I was denied by this guy at the window5. He was just mean and messed with people. He denied over 90% of people he interviewed(I wish I had the power to choose who my interviewer would be). Thanks everyone,I was prepared but he didnt let me express myself before he cut me short and told me the sorry you are not eligible line and then passed me the sheet of paper.

So sorry holluwai, God knows the best....please can you share with the house how the interview went and the experience, again what is your personal profile like
God bless you
Re: Usa Visit Visa by holluwai(m): 8:29am On May 15, 2013
He actually asked me just 5 questions and virtually all through he looked at the computer and typed. Like I said he wasnt friendly at all and never gave me a chance likewise others(If you know Kaha,a nigerian artist...he was also interviewed by this guy and he also denied him too). My personal profile is good, married with a child,my salary runs into 6 digits and I work with a reputable parastatal.

The interview,

I: Hello
CO: Can I have your passport and confirmation papers( I handed them over,he didnt respond to me greeting him)
CO:Why are you going to the US?
I: I am basically going to attened a conference.
CO:Where is the conference?
I:Boston...
CO: What do you do?
I: I am a ....
CO:How much is your income?
I: I told him(then he looked at me)
C0: Have you visited somewhere outside the country?
I: No

Then he handed me the paper and said the not eligble line.

Thats he, a few others I met there that didnt have travel experiences were approved of thier visas so I dont believe thats a reason for him to deny me because there is always a first time.

Sorry about this guy.is the conference you applied for in any way related to your field?then having no previous travel experience is another thing.

Ultimately what one needs is FAVOR when it comes to US visa. 5 of us were ment to attend the conference. We all do no have past traveling experience but 2 of us were granted the visa and yes the conference sure is related to my work so I will just insist it was the dude at window5 that just did what he felt like doing.

Hi,

Please i will like to apply for an american visa i was refused some years ago for no reason but i am guessing its because i was unemployed and single.

I have a job right now even though i am engaged and not married yet.
i have a lil hesitation in applying because my Dad and mum just got an immigrant visa and are presently in the U.S leaving with my sister and i dont want them thinking i want to run away which is certainly not the case.

Please what do you advice??
Re: Usa Visit Visa by dapsy4u2(m): 12:10pm On May 15, 2013
Hello House,

I kindly seek your opinion ans advice on this issue....... I intend travelling to the US by August/September this year, this will be my first trip outside the country. I was invited by a lady friend i met over a professional social network site. I work with a publishing firm and have a reasonable income. My questions/inquiries are thus:

When is the appropriate time to fill the visa application form?
what documents will i need to present at the interview stage to increase my chances of visa approval?
What are my chances of getting the visa as my host has promised to bear the cost of flight if visa is approved?

Any other advise, opinion or guide is highly appreciated.

Thank you.

Sorry to read of your refusal, there are lots of factors that play into this situation:

1. The mood of the CO.

2. Attitude of previous interviewees before you.

3. Your presentation under these circumstances (1&2)during your own interview. This may have taken a similar shape of previous denials by the same CO. He had no choice but to view you in similar light. Do not forget they are pressed for limited interview time.

4. Lastly, your body language during the interview.

TAKE NOTE:
Do not be deceived that the CO is not observing you as he is busy typing on his system. It is a trick.

Your Solution:

1. Along with your other staff denied visa, apply together as a group under the same visa category.

2. Do not change the purpose for which you're going to the States i.e., never apply for pleasure until you guys get the conference visa.

3. Meet with the others and let us know why they were refused visa. So we can advise better.

Why were you refused? A reason will be stated however trivial.

When did your parents immigrate to the States?

What are your job duties now and when did you get employed?

It is better you leave your US host out of the picture if you value your hard earned cash. This is a US citizen you've not met physically and you're talking about the person paying for your flight ticket if granted an uncertain visa.

Better for you to get travel experience some place else to boost your chances, before you apply for pleasure travel to the US.

My 10cents advise....

You were seen to be ineligible at the time for a lack of strong tie to your home country.

You need to have a very good tie in Nigeria to stand a chance. Dont forget you have a refusal already and the fact that your parents just immigrated, doesnt help much.

The onus to prove otherwise, lies with you.....
Re: Usa Visit Visa by ameeno: 10:09am On May 16, 2013
So what do you advise??

As a tie to Nigeria i Have a good job and some landed properties thats all

Please let me know what you advise?

ameeno: So what do you advise??

Your circumstance since your first refusal has changed, you now have a job, you're engaged to someone and you're with assests. These are good as they are.

But your profile will show you have families who immigrated to the States recently, and this can be a slight setback to your cause.

Nothing is impossible i always believe. Give your application a shot, you never know when the CO will have an oversight....grin

My brother had his interview today at usa embassy. The same mexicn chubby guy@window 3 denied him visa. I learnt he denies people visa anyhow. Without even looking at your ds-160 information or whtsoever. His interest in only on denying people visa at will. Bothe young and old. He even states that the policemen outside the embassy said that the guy is wicked and doesn't even has interest of giving visa to africans at heart. He was asked the following.
Where are you going to in the usa, how long are you stying, what's your purpose? How much is he earning? What's his position there? Then sowi bla bla with a paper.

Sorry about that,Trust me,the CO has to check out ones Ds 160 form before determining which questions are appropriate for a particular applicant. As a matter of fact, most of the info needed is in the form, but theres a reason for the interview.Sometimes, the CO plays a psychological game on you,and once you bungle it,its over.I think this applies to this Mexican guy and the Notorious Chinese lady.Actually, the State Department considers Nigeria a priority, and actually sends some of its best foreign officers to Nigeria,So,those guys at the post are very good. They do not need to ask loads of questions before adjudicating a case, and more often than not, they make correct decisions. But of course there are bad eggs in every organisation. He could choose to re apply if hes got strong ties. And as a rule no CO can interview you twice(having denied you previously),so he will have the chance to present his case to another CO. Better luck next time

Please clarify the bolded. I thought the applicant whose turn it is, goes to the available CO. A sort of random thing.

yes,but if a particular CO has denied you previously,he/she cannot interview you next time you apply. You get interviewed by another CO.Its all in the spirit of fair play.

@klas,

In addition to what Gbenge77 has stated, the DS-160 form in the CO's file, has a section where the names of all CO(s) who have interviewed you at one time or the other, and their assessment as well as their designations are entered.

This allows the CO to know if the visa applicant that pops up on his screen, has been cased by him previously.

Hope this answers you...?

^^^ Ok. Filed in memory in case of need. Lol

Pls I have a valid multiple B1/B2 visa. When I was given, I actually applied for a tourist visa for vacation which I had already gone and returned in october last year. I had expected a 6 months single B2 visa, but they dashed me a 2 years b1/b2 visa multi for reason best known to them cheesy

Now I have a prospect of going for a 2 weeks professional conference in September, can I still use this visa for this given that my purpose at the time of the interview was tourism? What exact advantage does this combined b1/b2 give me?

What you have is a valid combined visa for dual purposes:

B1 >>> Business or Conference
B2 >>> Tourism, Medical or Medical Tourism

All you need is a valid proof for such visit to the States e.g funds at your disposal for medical or paid invited letter for a conference and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officer then applies his/her discretion in letting you through passport control....
