for example following threats by JOHESU the FMOH issued a circular last month for placement of medical lab. scientist pupils/interns at a salary level equal to that of a lab. scientist that has just joined the service after NYSC. ALL the federal hospitals are presently having difficulty inplementing this circular, when one of the MDs asked a minitry official the reply was " it is not meant to be inplemented but issued just to doused tension"

Doctors in Nigeria deserve to be paid well especially the specialists. My beef is that most of these folks got into M&S because their parents wanted them to be doctors for egotistical reasons.

I was walking some doctors at Asokoro Gen. Hospital through the basics of ABG(arterial blood gas) analysis and its clinical applications. To my chargrin, they have no clues about what the hell I was talking about outside glancing over it in the textbooks. Are these the doctors that treat patients in the hospital?

Nigeria should train their doctors well and pay them better. Until then, it is pointless engaging in this argument because I believe doctors in Nigeria are currently earning what they are worth. Most of them should be trained more in invasive procedures as well.

I was watching the confab yesterday and a biased female delegate brought up this issue. She was trying to paint a scenario about Consultant Nurses being non-existent but she was so incoherent in her speech. She couldn't even make any vital point in her argument.

All our health institutions are been headed by medical doctors and most are in shambles. These people must be humbled else they will hold this nation to ransom. Well who knows who will need a doctor at this moment,it maybe another doctor. Its same blood that runs through the veins of all men. Most of the issues in demand by the Doctors are administrative issues. NMA attaching MUST attached to a demand is disrespectful knowing fully well that these demands will be presented to the President. Are you commanding the Oga at the top? 1.A consultant consults, in our case with patients. How will the convenient will it be for a sick and poor patient to serially consult from the medical doctor down to the consultant Johesu pharmacist, nurses, labman, cleaner etc? In terms of time, costs, convenience etc.
2. Differences sometimes arise between doctors approach to patient management but these are easily ressolved because of similarity in basic orientation and training. How are such differences (which are sure to be multiplied under Johesu plan), going to be ressolved?
3. The gang up against doctor is sure to start back-firing within hours should it be adopted and then journalists in their cavalier write-ups would remember who ought to have called others to order.
4. Maybe you dont know, all those clamoring to become 'consultants' already own big hospitals even in your village where all sorts of submedical things are done. The are just looking for a way to legalise things. Be informed.

I know nothing about the FRSC rejecting the request but all the doctors I spoke to the day the memorandum was released by the NMA felt it was laughable and i know quite a number of doctors.

Am very sure the so called lab technician, can tell what result is positive for any ailment and a pharmacist can tell u what drug and what dosage u need to get cured....Every consultant just gives u a list of (lab technician's) test that decides which of the (pharmacist's) drugs to use..It make one wonder what they can really do without test and drugs..

U studied wat u lyk and I did wat I lyk, but because u admitted d patient and offer some services doesnt make u sole healthcare provider in d team of professionals that must make every decision, including what n how other professionals must be remunerated. It will be very stupid n unprofessional of a sensible surgeon to carry out a surgery without d theatre nurse, d anaesthetist, and a whole lot of others just because he claimed to own d patient.
