It took place last year, on Sport Bikes. The group returned to the UK after Christmas.

I can't say any more, as it's not my place to do so, and the thread starter hasn't been on here in a while. I can only feast my eyes on the Facebook pictures.

NIGERIA INTERNATIONAL DRIVING PERMIT

What Is International Driving Permit?
An IDP is a document that allows an individual to drive a private vehicle in another country; it is slightly larger than a standard passport and it is complete with one’s photographs and other statistical data.

Where can I obtain IDP?
Before you can obtain a valid IDP in Nigeria you MUST also have your local driving license issued by the Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC) first before you can get your International Permit.

How long does it take?
The International Driving Permit takes 2 to 3 working days

What are the requirements?
Photocopy of International Passport
Photocopy of National Driving license
2 Passport photo

How long does it takes before it expire?
You can request for an International Driving license in Nigeria that is for one year to three years, you will have to pay more if you want to have the expiration longer than a year.
One year License
Two year License
Three year License

Which country can I Use the IDP?
The IDP is recognized in Maryland, Washington DC and California in the U.S. as well as Germany, Turkey, Switzerland, Poland, Spain, Austria and Sweden in Europe.

Having an IDP is a great advantage when you are working overseas as it can help you find a job as a Professional Driver or simply use it for personal convenience.

For enquiry or if you want to get a valid International Driving license in Nigeria, at cheaper price and free home delivery.

Has anybody considered driving from the UK / Europe to Nigeria, I am thinking it would be quite an interesting adventure especially if we were in a convoy of likeminded people, the larger the better and of course the safer, I remember about 30 years ago hearing about a student returning home to Nigeria by road in a Ford Capri 3.0S, and I have thought about doing the same since.

His name is Sule and has since retired to South Nigeria it was done at a tine when the roads were not far from tracks.

It's not dangerous the most dangerous part of the Journey is driving inside Nigeria. It's even normal to drive in the middle of the night from city to city across south Western Africa. Not in Nigeria.

I tried to get a few of my buddies to go but they all chickened out. That was 10 years ago.

A few clips from YouTube that show how easy and routine it is. Below.

All these vehicles are not SUV's but A HGV and two saloon cars. And they were all going literally solo.

Just that our guys too fear and have no spirit of adventure.

I have shelved the idea now, too many other things going on and not enough time. But if I do I'll probably do it Solo.

Buy a car in Europe nothing luxurious something that's inconspicuous, understated but definitely an SUV old not but more than 10 years. Diesel engined a certainty the range on a good diesel can easily get too 700 miles plus. That pre empts the problem of fuel shortages in some areas or adulterated fuel.

I intend to register the car in Nigeria before it gets there paying all custom duties, etc. That way I can get all the ECOWAS permits and insurance, etc that just reduces all the official hassle on the way.

When will I do it , don't know yet.

To do it properly it takes careful preparation and many months. Many do not understand the logistics involved.

I have found what you posted to be very useful to me as I plan my own West Africa Expedition for 2022. It's more of a touring expedition as opposed to a banshee point A to point B drive.

I've been overthinking the expedition vehicle but I realize now reading your post a that low profile vehicle is better. I was actually thinking of an Innoson Motors vehicle but not sure about parts availability.

Thank you.

Do you mind if I send you a mail request?

30 years ago there wasn't banditry and terrorism and carjackings and covetousness and greed and disregard for human life as there is today. The world has changed. ..such adventures have become dangers.

Let me explain in Sone detail.

It's 1000% more dangerous driving in Nigeria than all the way from London to Cotonou. The most dangerous part of the Journey is when you get to Nigeria.

Last year I was in Warri and left at 9.30pm to go to Benin City, my friends considered it a suicide mission. I prayed opened my V8 and got to Benin before 10.30pm. Thanks to God.

From London across the channel to Calais, France and through to Tarifa Spain there is zero danger you can do the 1300 ➕ miles in less than 24 hours and on one tank of petrol depending on your car. See YouTube below.

Morocco can be described as semi - Europe in terms of security and infrastructure. Once again nothing to fear beyond the erratic Moroccan drivers roads are excellent. Going through Morocco plus Europe is about 60% of the Journey.

Mauritania has little or no issues with Jihadis as long as you don't go into the wild hinterland. But we are driving mostly closer to the coast line

From the Moroccan ( Western Sahara has been annexed by Morocco for more than 40 years) border to Nouakchott capital of Mauritania is about 400k.

This is your first taste of the real Africa infrastructure is not great but nothing vwe have not experienced in Nigeria if not worse. There is highway all the way with normal potholes to welcome you to Africa. You don't need a SUV the taxi service from Morocco to Nouakchott is dominated by 35 year old Mercedes-Benz 190, Flat_Engine 230 and V- Boot.

From Nouakchott to Dakar is barely 380 km you are now literally home in tropical West Africa. However you may avoid Dakar and go straight through the more amiable border crossing at Diame and go to Bamako.

There are a number of options but once you get to Senegal it's about the experience. Danger from Jihadis and or Fulani herdsman is very rare on travellers and essentially non existent.

I am that confident I am now prepared to do it Solo, NO SHAKIN

Your fears are mere paranoid misinformation.

You’re right.

It is my opinion that this is part of what keeps us behind as a people.

And is part of the reason that we thrive as a people once we arrive in developed countries. Because we feel suddenly unchained.

Whats your reality Fear of fear and paranoid delusion.

Sometimes we have a fear of the possible more so than the reality. The reality that you are more likely to get killed driving getting lost in Miami, Florida as i did some time ago and found myself surrounded by gang bangers in liberty city . Than driving in Mauritania or Mali.

Or what do you think
