Individual opinion of course.

Some of us are more matured in an automotive sense to appreciate and own various samples of both marques.

I didn't post this to shove my opinion down your throat. Like I said someone said they don't know what classic BMWs looks like.

These pics bring lots of memories. When I was a kid, my uncle bought a five series ,the E12. (thats the 70s five series, right?) I and my sisters usually fought to sit in the front seat; y'noe , to feel that we have 'reached.' Needless to say, I often won. When I visited my uncle about a year ago; it was still there ...but on cinder blocks. He told me it runs though.

The cedi is gaining ground now, might as well look into restoring the ol' beamer- if i dont get a 1989ish benz w126 sec, my dream car!

You gotta love that isdetta though (thats how you spell it, right?) Didnt know it came with back doors.

Yes you hurt me. I need two bottles of a concottion of Opa Eyin, Opa Iwaju, Jedi, Mutibile grin

As far as I know you can import anything but the wolves will circle i fit's over the set age. The place to start is with the clearing agent who will ultimately have to clear it and will know what shipper will allow such a beast on her decks.

Once that is done either you or me can source a nice specimen for you.

You are my man the 1985 benz sec and Toyota supra 1993-96 are the cars I must own. My uncle's friend/neighbour still use a BMW 525 MY 1986 THAT THE AC STILL WORKS. euro cars I still don't know the stuff they are made of.

lol, cityNG is a wise man, you'll have to buy books of idiomatic expression in English and Yoruba to understand his comments sometimes.
BMWs don't have to appeal, they are for men, they look brawny, just like how they drive. The classic Mercs are cold and too political. I love the isetta, and the beautiful e21. What about the 2002 turbo?

Nigeria has an age limit (doesn't make any sense) on cars that you can bring in.

When you're bringing in a classic then expect to have to go through more red tapes which means more opportunities for people to ask you for bribes.

I totally have to drive that isetta before I die! Its kinda got some charm about it.

Is 'death trap' the trade name of that kind of door or a vague reminder of what will happen after a head on collision with an austin mini? loool!

Went down to pay my uncle a visit last weekend. He has finally sold off his beamer **sob**.

I guess our tastes are quite similiar!! Apart from the mercedes sec, I just love the supra; despite the fact i'm not a toyota fan. I'm really dissapointed there's no true descendant to fill its shoes yet. Well, maybe except the gt86; to some extent.

Is it possible to get one of those cars in the 1st pix? If yes, how much?
Re: Showcasing Classic Bmws by auhanson(m): 11:33pm On Sep 29, 2014
Man, thanks for these pix.It brings back memory as a kid , when i use to see these cars in beautiful magazines. Would i say the classic were more appealing than the modern day BM. There is these sense of aura they command in these pix , most especially pix1, 4, 5 and 11..I should love to have these marque in my garage.

there's a Toyota supra close to my mechanics workshop,a shop that deals on Japanese cars, I approached the owner of the shop, if the supra was for sale, he said NO...it's been there for a while, grounded. Auto tranny...

Death trap meaning when in a front end crash then the only source of escape is now jammed shut grin

You made my day grin

Most Nairalanders, except for a very few, do not recognize classic cars. Without these cars and without their successes many of the modern cars will never have existed.

I read somewhere that if the BMW 2002 had failed then BMW would have gone under. So we may have never had M3, M5, L7, M1, etc and we owe all those to the little BMW 2002.

I grudgingly drive modern cars. I'm perfectly happy in my 1967 Mercedes Benz 250 than in my 2009 VW Jetta. Yeah sure the old bird doesn't quite like waking up in the mornings and offers complaints by grumbling and snorting back through her intakes and may occasionally fart though the exhaust but when she's all warmed up and get sou ton the open highway she comes into her own regal way.

You can but that particular model is very rare (meaning very few left in the wild). I in fact have never seen one offered for sale.

Hmmm sorry about your uncle's decision to sell off the Beemer, I'm not a Toyota guy either but circumstance has made me own one, but the supra is in a league of its own. If you've driven one especially the last generation before production ceased, you will respect Toyota. That car (turbo version) will get you to 200kph while still around 4000 to 5000rpm and has got very intelligent if not the most intelligent turbo fitted in a car. So sad Toyota didn't give the world a replacement, the gt86 similarity is just it been a rear drive car. The supra has got an attitude no Toyota model has.

I don't accept any Mercedes manufactured after 1970 as worthy of my purchase. My 1972 was purchased so that I can harvest the engine for a 1959 "Heckflosse" project.

Your assignment, should you wish to accept it, is to educate the fora on what is Heckflosse.

I disagree.

It depends on the effort that you put into them.

Even my 1967 Austin Mini Moke with steel seats (no padding at all) was routinely comfortable for drives over 500 miles. But then I am blessed with carry along non detachable padding on my dearie grin

"Mercedes-Benz Fintail
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mercedes-Benz W110 fintail

Mercedes Benz Fintail (German: Heckflosse) is a nickname given to several Mercedes passenger vehicles produced from 1959 to 1968, which replaced the former Ponton series.

The styling, similar to other contemporary European and Japanese car models, referred to the US tailfin era, though in an attenuated variant. It included tail fins for aerodynamic stability,[citation needed] though never officially designated as such (they were designated Peilstege to facilitate parking, marking the end of the car in the rear-view mirror). The production series included:

Six-cylinder sedans
1959–68 Mercedes-Benz W111 ("Great Fin"wink — 220b, 220Sb, 220SEb, 230S
1961–65 Mercedes-Benz W112 — 300SE
Four-cylinder sedans
1961–68 Mercedes-Benz W110 ("Little Fin"wink — 190c, 190Dc (1961–65), 200, 200D, 230 (1961–65)

The fintails were only insinuated on two-door coupé and cabriolet versions."

So when you are amongst aristocratic autotists you say stuff like.

Why yes my 59 Heckflosse is having quite the fits. For a new car it's throwing too much tantrum than my 58 Ponton.

What's a Ponton you ask? grin
