This is an insult to the sensibility of the people in the North East and other parts of the country that are victims of Boko Haram attacks. I look forward to the trial in the ICC.

The best way to protect witnesses, as we have seen in some trials, is by covering their faces. This was exactly what was done when Oputa Panel heard the case on human right violation in Ogoniland, when the Panel sat in Port Harcourt. The person that is being protected here is Ali Ndume, not the witness. Have you asked why it is the FG that is making a request for secret trial, and not the councel(s) to Ndume?

Protecting those who want to serve as witnesses or those giving evidences is understandable.
Secretly carrying out a trial is what is beyond me no matter the reason.

I thought the explicit and intrinsic importance of the court is to openly try and convict criminals, send them to jail so that it will serve as a deterrent to others.

I believe GEJ is trying but he is just so weak.
There are a lot of funny things about his government.

If you will agree with me, you will realize that corrupt people/ politicians under GEJs government are left alone without trial. They go free.
He doesn't have balls but he is a good man.
Nigeria doesn't want a good man... we "NEED" someone with balls. Someone who can act, try corrupt people and nail it on the head plain and simple and live with the consequences.

I agree but want to add. Nigeria need a good man who has balls. Not a deceptive good man in question like Fashola but a plain unadulterated goodman like Oshiomhole.

Why are you people always wont to blame and criticize every time? Who told you that secret trials are not carried out on some categories of criminals all over the world? UK, U.S, and other advance countries use secret trials especially when the open trial of a person is considered a threat to national security etc. Secret trials are not meant to witch hunt the accused if that is what you are implying by your criticism, but to protect the witnesses and above all for national security.

Well said, most people here probably didn't read the article, if they did they would understand the request. In a secret trial basically the court is closed to the public and press usually to protect the identity of witnesses. After the trial some facts, evidence and testimony will be released to the public however witness names will be protected. It is not a violation of anyone's rights, because the prosecution can still cross examine all the witnesses.

And the judge will secretly find him Innocent of the charges.
secret trial can also lead an accused person to jail. A secret trial is a trial free from press it paves way for protection of witnesses and the accused person from the media and the people. smiley

After reading some of these comments, I have to say:

READ THE ARTICLE.

FG (Prosecution) wants a secret trial.

Ndume (Defense) wants an open trial.

One would assume that a secret trial would have a higher chance of conviction.

I agree with your comment except the part in bold. There's nothing good about a weakling, and not only is he weak, he's selfish to boot. He's like a man who's scared of calling his girlfriend to order when she squanders his children's school fees. What's good about that kind of person?

All these our judges sha...
Instead of you to give a ruling on the motion filed by prosecution, you adjourn the case.
What are you adjourning for? So in all your wisdom and education, you cannot independently decide whether the motion is reasonable or not.
Rather, he has adjourned the hearing so he can make further consultations. Where is the independence in that?
The law is blind indeed undecided
