CONTROL OF DISEASE OUTBREAK IN A FLOCK
1. Examination of the flock daily to detect sick birds
2. Isolate any showing signs of sickness
3. Every disease should be considered contagious until proven otherwise
Different people should look after two groups- the isolated and the healthy to avoid disease spread
4. Accurate diagnosis is important between treatment
5. Slaughter every bird that is hopelessly sick avoid spilling the blood all over the place
6. All dead birds and litters from the sick pen must be buried or burnt
7. All houses should be cleaned and the house inspected for holes of rodents
8. Sudden change of food should be avoided. Changing of feed should be done gradually, mix the new feed with the old while increasing the percentage of the new feed until you gradually terminate the old one

For more consultation on prevention and control of disease outbreak in a poultry flock call FARMERGIANT on 08179841277 or 08099515923 or 08095645892

When it comes to broiler (meat production), though the turn over is fast but if you get it wrong, you run into a big loss.
First you ensure you feed the birds adlibitum even at night (that means you light up the pen). This ensures they attain not less than live market weight of 2.8kg in 7 weeks. The feed conversion rate (which is the ratio of the weight (kg) of feed given to chicken to the weight of dressed bird) helps determine what quantity to feed them on weekly. Keeping broiler any longer than 2 months means feeding them with the profit you would have made from them.
Furthermore you must have a ready market before they attain market weight. Adding value by dressing before sales which boosts profit could be costly (though to avoid manual feather removing and charges by local job men and the length of time it takes, a defathering machine could be used).
The longer the time it takes to dress and process the birds could cause the meat to start deteriorating. Even after processing, storage by freezing requires good functional freezer (if the quantity is small) with good supply of electricity or better still a cold room which is also cost demanding.
The technicalities in manipulating the feeding regimen, deplucking and processing (dressing), storage and finally marketing make farmers to shy away from this venture and divert their resources and attention to Egg Production which shouldnt be so.

That is why FARMERGIANT NIGERIA LIMITED is there to guide you through any aspect of Poultry Production (Meat and/or Egg) with emphasis laid down from start up to marketing.

hardniola. Depending on how much a plot cost in your choice location, you may wish to consider the following; a manual cage with capacity of 240 birds can be gotten at 100/110k at Akure there. Similarly, budget btw 950 - 1,000 for each bird (whether you're raising from day old or you are buying at point of lay). You'll need about 5 bundles of roofing sheet to cover a pen capable of housing 500 birds. Other expenses include cement for the flooring, net & planks. Success.

melifew213. Check for the following; the comb must be red, turgid & extended, to cover between the pelvic and breast must take at least 3 fingers. Additionally, the vent should be moist and red. Success

Farmafric. Are there any disadvantages to floor-mixing method in comparison to buying finished feeds? I discover that I can save about #200 on each bag of feed if I do floor-mixing. I intend using grounded maize from Golden Penny as well as their wheat offal plus Concentrates. Your opinion here will be appreciated, please.
