The next to be removed should be the Arabic inscriptions on our military badges, and rankings....Nigeria is a secular state...period.

This madness has to stop, National assembly is built like a mosque, the presidential villa is built like a mosque....This country belongs to us all and is never a religious state. visit any ministry, parastatal or agency of the government in Abuja. the master plan of those buildings have mosques...They couldn't have the freedom to do that in Lagos, and came up with the script that the capital of Nigeria has to be at the center of Nigeria.

We just need to be security conscious cos in matter of days the news that Hausa/Islamic Inscriptions has been removed will go viral, they will tag all of us HARNI (meaning Unbeliever) and may go on rampage killing themselves not me.

I remember my uncle who was a member of MPR telling me that Soludo had good plans for the Naira but the northern hegemony wont allow him. That his problem with Yaradua began the day he raised it in their meeting that Nigeria is a secular state and so should not have any religious inscription in our currency. He said YARADUA heard of it before that meeting ended. Of course his brothers informed him. Yaradua called Soludo as the meeting was ending to ask how true.

Most people think Soludos tenure was not renewed because of the planned devaluation of the naira which presidency claims they were not carried along. but the inscription on the naira was the genesis of Soludos crisis with Yaradua. OBJs grand plan was that Soludo should remain and complete the devaluatuion plan.

In days to come expect the northern elites reaction to this removal.and may be Bokoharam taking more innocent lives in protest...Nigeria belongs to them and we are their slaves...so an average northerner thinks.

Except for those suffering from historical Amnesia, the 2015 struggle to take power by the north is never born out of the love for Nigeria. The North has not forgiven Southern Nigeria for the death of Yaradua. In their heart, in their mosques, its a subject of discuss that Jonathan is seating on their chance and must be unseated no matter what. Ineeded, Jonathan has disappointed all of us greatly but the North seeking power on the premise that it belongs to them or based on vendetta is a NO NO for me and all intellectual minds. If you are up north during the election, and Jonathan is declared winner, better run for your life. They will unleash the evil dragon, what Bokoharam is doing now is childs play compared to the plan.

Expository and well articulated write up. One of the very few matured and history oriented minds on NL. Many southern followers of APC think they APC will make Nigeria better and I laugh in Swahili. The primary reason for all the tussle is returning power to the north by any means possible.

I'm impress by this development , why should hausa and Arabic be inscripted on a note solely for one set of people understanding when Ibibio and other languages are neglected, it's high time our government realize that the voiceless age of Nigerians is over. I just hope my Muslim pals are less pained .

A typical example of myopia and fear mixed together!

Who threatened you to use arabic?

When was arabic declared a national language? Do you know what Ajami is?

let me use Ajmi

Like I stated, most of teh bigot laden statements in this thread is derived from Ignorance deliberately being fostered by CAN!
U are the most bigoted thing I've ever met on NL!!!!

Why are u dragging CAN into this matter? What concerns CAN in this?

U keep mentioning CAN in all ur posts, what is ur problem ? Why do u always feel cheated religiously at any slight national program.
Because that's where u are driving at considering all ur posts av read.

Besides, are u an hausa man? If u are not, why not allow hausas to come out and tell the world they can no more identify naira again without the Arabic inscription even while their dialect is boldly written on it.

Pls leave CAN out of this issue, don't create another problem here biko!!!!

That means we may need to remove symbols like wigs used by judges in court, also, we should remove the eagle symbol in the coat of arms because they all have roots in the church.

How does the eagle in the coat of arms come from d church? Which kind sense you get sef?

It surprises me that Mr. Jari find this so important than the issues of corruption, poverty, hunger, high level of illiteracy, etc that is seriously affecting the North. Despite the Northerners ruling this country more than the southerner since independence, there is nothing good they can point to as the main achievement to the masses except their individual purse. They encourage them to be almajiri while their own children travel abroad to study. Mr. Jari did not see anything wrong in what BH are doing for him to condemn but his main problem is removing of arabic on new naira note. I wonder what type of human being

The essence of the currency is for people to use it, if you make it difficult for a good part of the people it is meant for to identify and use it, then you have only proven to be myopic.

Regardless of the bigot laden statements so far on the thread, this remains the main reason why Ajami was used on the naira note, CAN is really working though, through ignorance,it is raising the next generation of lord resistance army fighters, who rather than demand good governance would prefer finding new fronts to fight Muslims. Any nation where people put bigotry and fanaticism before tolerance is doomed to be stagnated.

Honestly I can't fathom how some people do think WTF does CAN has todo with this!!! You people always put forth yourselves as the victim in every situation meanwhile you are the ones adding more wood to the fire...I really feel for you people o cos unknowingly y'all destroying yourselves and you don't seem to realise that & mind you Christians ain't got the time to fight some ignoramus humans, we got a life to live.

I am as much amuse by your comments, your arguments are narrow my brother beside, who are the people that will have difficulties using Naira with English letter, dont tell me the school in the north are there for nothing, and per the yoruba and igbo language, the major tribes in Nigeria are Hausa Yoruba and Igbo, so your protest can only be valid if the inscriptions removed are in hausa language, make you case that FG should also inscribe hausa language and not Arabic that is strange and associated with certain religion. Just imaging if other ethnic protest of the exclusion of their dialects. Our problem sometimes is hinged on selfishness, this loopholes is what foreign powers are exploiting to our detriment. The day the common men realise the damage our sentiment is doing to us, thats when we shall be able to deliver urself from the claws of our greedy ruling class. If you ask I have many thing against this government just last past government but on this, I support the move. Nigeria is Nigerians that cut across; South, North, East and West my little objection

I respectfully disagree with you sir.

Arabic is not our language so is English but our official language is English. Just like Niger, their official language is French.

Now how many people can read Arabic ? Lets be honest with ourselves, the only Arabic likes of us can recognise are the ones written in the Quran not taking it to the extent of writing it on our money.

In Nigeria, we need to take different groups along, the Christians are not comfortable with the Arabic inscription on the Note. Why not just remove it and write in Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo and English. This why we can convert more Christians to Muslims just as Prophet Mohammed said (S.A.W)

Ignorance kills faster than bullets.

Before you can read in Hausa, Igbo or Yoruba you must be familiar with english alphabets and be able to read english. Most Hausas were educated in Arabic as at the time those currencies were introduced while southerners were educated in English hence the use of Arabic and English.

The article is clear enough "The Ajami writing was purposely meant to enable the Hausas and other tribes that had learnt Arabic long before English read the currency. As English came to Nigeria through the south, so Arabic came to Nigeria through the north."

This government along with has succeeded so much in dividing this country along religious line to the extent that we senselessly read religious meanings to what ordinarily does not have anything to do with religion. Almost everyone is now a religious bigot.

If you had read the article with a clear 'un-bigotic' mind, you would have noticed the bolded statement. Same with most people that commented before you.

You even went as far as quoting a Prophet wrongly. Things like this that people say without much thought are what causes most religious uprising.

"My people perish for lack of knowledge"

Job/work situation in Nigeria hardly gives people
enough time for anything else, except weekends
most times.
Most people would love to build an additional
income source but timing is the problem.
I just found a way we could build an additional
unlimited income source, part time even while we
are at work.
interested? send me a message.

I do believe Hausa is a lang... Has its own word spellings... I support this move, however, if we still have Yoruba and Igbo inscriptions on these notes, It would also make sense to have words written in Hausa... But not Arabic!!!

The words are written in Hausa with Arabic script. It is possible to transliterate English into Arabic script but you might not grasp the concept.

Transliteration is what is at play here.

If you really want to make sense other than bigotry, advocate for it to be made in only Nigerian language. You can't find a single English on Chinese note.
