@bolded that is the point! Just because they aren't comfortable with the Arabic inscription doesn't means it should be removed. In the same currency all the other languages are written signifying the worth of the naira e.g Nàírà Méwàà, Naira Iri and Naira Goma. Notice both the Yorubas and Igbos write in Latin alphabet. If the Hausas preferred to write their language in Arabic alphabet why stop them?

People just like to make case out of nothing. Must their be that islamic write up before one must identify the denomination? At least 100 inscription is age long and nobody can pretend not to have know it up till this moment.
Please this religious thing is not what matters at all times.

Arabic doesn't mean Islamic dumbo. Arabs knew Christ in person and millions of Arabs were Christians when your ancestors were living on trees and intermarrying with monkeys.

Myopic people indeed, well stated, what is wrong accommodating other people? How has removing this change your life? Jonathan is playing politics with myopic Christians who would feel they have won some sort of victory, while him and his cronies continue ruing the economy implicitly or explicitly. When people think illiterates are the only one manipulable by religion we fail to the see the fact that myopic literates fare no better!
all this big grammar you are speaking doesn't change the fact that the people who call others bigots are the ones with ceaseless religious violence on their land all this talks off tolerance have been betrayed by their actions, relationships are not built by people forcing themselves on others but mutual respect,if u want to understand how we feel about this picture the crucifix on ur nairanote,or latin inscriptions,a lot of us are catholics u know winkvbkt

The next to be removed should be the Arabic inscriptions on our military badges, and rankings....Nigeria is a secular state...period.

This madness has to stop, National assembly is built like a mosque, the presidential villa is built like a mosque....This country belongs to us all and is never a religious state. visit any ministry, parastatal or agency of the government in Abuja. the master plan of those buildings have mosques...They couldn't have the freedom to do that in Lagos, and came up with the script that the capital of Nigeria has to be at the center of Nigeria.

We just need to be security conscious cos in matter of days the news that Hausa/Islamic Inscriptions has been removed will go viral, they will tag all of us HARNI (meaning Unbeliever) and may go on rampage killing themselves not me.

I remember my uncle who was a member of MPR telling me that Soludo had good plans for the Naira but the northern hegemony wont allow him. That his problem with Yaradua began the day he raised it in their meeting that Nigeria is a secular state and so should not have any religious inscription in our currency. He said YARADUA heard of it before that meeting ended. Of course his brothers informed him. Yaradua called Soludo as the meeting was ending to ask how true.

Most people think Soludos tenure was not renewed because of the planned devaluation of the naira which presidency claims they were not carried along. but the inscription on the naira was the genesis of Soludos crisis with Yaradua. OBJs grand plan was that Soludo should remain and complete the devaluatuion plan.

In days to come expect the northern elites reaction to this removal.and may be Bokoharam taking more innocent lives in protest...Nigeria belongs to them and we are their slaves...so an average northerner thinks.

Except for those suffering from historical Amnesia, the 2015 struggle to take power by the north is never born out of the love for Nigeria. The North has not forgiven Southern Nigeria for the death of Yaradua. In their heart, in their mosques, its a subject of discuss that Jonathan is seating on their chance and must be unseated no matter what. Ineeded, Jonathan has disappointed all of us greatly but the North seeking power on the premise that it belongs to them or based on vendetta is a NO NO for me and all intellectual minds.

I dont know how we came up with Quota system, but that stuff has only served in the interest of the north. I dont know any southerner who has benefited from Quota system. We sacrificed merit at the altar of that Northern grand plan. If not tell me why Fashola should not be given APC presidential ticket to have a good election. But try that and see the viper react...It must be them or nothing. They annuled June 12, gave it to Weak Shonekan for few months and chased him out again, killed Abiola in the prison so that , his case will remain in the ash bin of history. Today, my people cry for remeberance of June 12 and they laugh from Minna and Kano.they knew what they were doing... If you are up north during the election, and Jonathan is declared winner, better run for your life. They will unleash the evil dragon, what Bokoharam is doing now is childs play compared to the plan.

So tell me where Mohammed learnt his ways of life from?

Tell me where islam started from?

Early Christianity started off with Jesus Christ,Judaism that has been practiced by the jews is not christianity-no doubt millions of Arab might choose to be christians, but 80% of Arab are Muslims-the ones that are christians probably migrated to the lands,or the Arabs forced themselves into their lands-like they always like to invade people's lands.

You are a big ignoramus if you do not know the origins of the religion you adhere to.

Mohammed grew up in Arab lands and later led a rebellion to gain countrol and power-all he knew and lived by was the Arab ways of life-Sharia and all.

No one bothers to read the write up! For the last time, the inscription is in the Hausa language (NOT ARABIC) written in Arabic script. An Arabic speaker from Egypt or Saudi Arabia will be able to pronounce it, but will not be able to understand it! It is just like Yoruba or Igbo written in the English script, and no English speaker will understand it. The Hausa language is traditionally written in Arabic script, also known as Ajami.

Regardless of the bigot laden statements so far on the thread, this remains the main reason why Ajami was used on the naira note, CAN is really working though, through ignorance,it is raising the next generation of lord resistance army fighters, who rather than demand good governance would prefer finding new fronts to fight Muslims. Any nation where people put bigotry and fanaticism before tolerance is doomed to be stagnated.

ur argument is heavily flawed

From when ENGLISH became our lingua franca, learning to read & write other languages was & is just an added advantage. If d inscription was in Hausa language , that cud be excused odawise, its just fair that its removed. Arabic is not d official language of hausa. It is d language of d muslims in general. Latin and hebrew is d language of d christians. Since latin or hebrew is not there, its proper to remove d arabic incription. No arabic tabloid or writing has words writen in english and vice versa. So if english is our lingua franca, then we stick with it.

The new Hundred Naira note: Jonathan removes the Arabic inscription at the edge, yet they say he is clueless. For those that doesn't know about the real Meaning and origin of the Arabic inscription on our national currencies. It was introduced in our country in 1989 when Rt Gen Badamosi Babangida led Nigerians to Arabic league of Nation. The only way to let them know that Nigeria is an Islamic state is to insert an Arabic inscription in one of our national symbols. The inscriptions in our currencies which means "Arab rules the world" is an indication to them that Nigeria is an Islamic nation which in turn aided or facilitated the acceptance of Babangida's application. Nigeria have been paying Millions of Dollars as a yearly dues to this Organisation as a member. This is a welcome change. How many of those Hausa can even read the Arabic self? The inscription using our major Nigerian languages (Igbo, Yoruba and Hausa) is enough. To the ignorant ones trying to justify the Arabic inscription, you need to know that the major aim of these people is to ISLAMISE NIGERIA.

There are plenty f.oolish people on nairaland.... (Please take offence)..... They regularly use this religious bigotry to cause division in this country and like dumb sheep you all follow

Does the Arabic inscription on the naira make you less of a Christian? If the roughly 50% Muslims in the country say let Christians add their inscription and let Muslims add theirs what then happens?

Well to be even more sure that you don't become Muslims by the evil machinations of the people up north, STOP USING ARABIC NUMERALS

The interesting thing about the inscription is that an Arab person cannot say what it means. I asked a Jordanian and a Lebanese Arab man to interpret the writing and they confirmed that the letters are Arabic but it makes no meaning to them. undecided

Majority of all Nigerians supported the change.
But the minority few also want their voices to be heard.
Since Nigeria isn't a savage country, the majority is most probably, the best for them.
If only our leaders were this sensitive to the people's voice, we would live in a better country now.
